Virgil glanced around the forest that he had created, it was nowhere near as intricate or elaborate as Roman's normal castles, kingdoms, and villages, it was still quite beautiful and calming. The only noise that was present was the soft wind that blew through the trees making them sway ever so subtly. It wasn't the vastness of the forest he created that kept him here, it was the tranquility, that's exactly what he needed after a panic attack. "Virgil?" He heard a voice call from the ground down below the tree branch he was sitting on. The voice slightly started him, making him jump a bit. "Oops! Sorry kiddo, didn't mean to startle you." Patton said, Virgil sighed, letting his tensed shoulders relax again. "It's okay Pat.." There was a brief silence between them as Patton looked down to the ground, kicking his foot into the dirt slightly.
"Are you okay, Virgil?" he asked as he looked back up to meet Virgil's eyes. Virgil looked away and shrugged "I guess..." he said, he had long given up on fully lying, at least to Patton, about how he was feeling. Patton sighed, another silence was cast upon them, until Patton began to climb up the tree, snapping Virgil out of his thoughts as he heard the cracking of the branches. "You're gonna end up hurting yourself!" He warned. Patton shook his head "Nope! I do this with Roman all the time!" he said, partially out of breath, another minute of silence, besides Patton's small grunts of effort.
The two were soon sitting side by side, not speaking as Patton caught his breath. "You've been in here awhile, we were starting to worry." The father figure figment spoke. "So, they sent you in here after me?" Virgil chuckled quietly, the other shook his head "No, I came in here because I wanted to make sure you were okay. That was, a really bad panic attack..." he said quietly. "I'm... calmer... I dunno about, Okay.." He replied truthfully. "Well, that's okay... what's making you... not okay?" He said before giving himself a questioning look. "If that makes sense." he mumbled. Virgil gave a small smile and a slight hum in response, he took a moment before sighing, he needed to be fully truthful this time, especially with Patton.
"'M just... scared... scared that I'm gonna mess this up..." "Mess what up?" "Us! All of us! Like, I'll, say or do... something stupid... and it'll all break apart! Ro, and Lo will stop dating me, obviously, but, then, all three of you would split apart too, and it'll be all my fault!!" Virgil said, his voice slightly raising, tears invading his eyes that he desperately tried to wipe away. "Hey! Hey! Hey! Kiddo, kiddo... it's okay..." Patton said calmly as he held onto Virgil's arm, gently pulling it away from his face. Virgil bit his lip in a feeble attempt to hold back a sob. He had been bottling up this fear since the four began their polyamorus relationship, and now it was all just becoming unbearable.
To the point where with every interaction the four had together, whether it be movie night, all of them going to dinner, or any other activity they did as a group, Virgil would stay almost completely silent out of fear of saying something wrong. "Virgil... You aren't going to upset any of us like that, we've been perfectly fine in this for two years it would take a lot more than a slip of the tongue to ruin any of that." Patton spoke in the soft, comforting manner that only he could manage. Virgil sniffled before pulling Patton into a hug, beginning to silently cry into his shoulder.
"It's okay, it's okay..." Patton said soothingly, just barely above a whisper as he rubbed Virgil's back, giving the boy time to cry. He knew that his anxiety makes everything exponentially more enhanced, well, mainly just the screw ups, or it turns minor things that weren't even bad into the worst possible thing in existence. "I'm going to mess it up... S-Somehow... I know it..." He said, despite being heavily muffled by Patton's shoulder. "Kiddo, you can't keep worrying about the possibilities.. Some relationships just don't work out, and no one is really to blame for it breaking, then there's relationships like ours... one's that manage to stay together through thick and thin!" He said adding the optimistic twist, and slightly pushing Virgil away so that there could be eye contact between the two.
Virgil sniffled and wiped his eyes as Patton continued. "You scared us kiddo, you running off after a panic attack that bad, made us worry especially when you stayed in here for such a long time..." Virgil paused before asking "How long have I been in here?" His voice still having a small quiver to it, but it was now much more obvious that he had calmed down. A third voice sounded from down below them, answering his question before Patton could "Three, almost four hours at this point" Logan said as he glanced up at his boyfriends. "Logan!" Patton said enthusiastically, "Hey, Lo." Virgil mumbled, his voice still soft, since he just managed to stop crying.
"Are you feeling better, Virgil?" Logan asked. Virgil nodded "Yeah... uh... thanks for... helping me calm down, earlier.." "Of course, that is what I am here for." There was yet another short span of silence before Patton got an idea, "Logan! You should come join us up here!" "That is an illogical request seeing as how the branch you two are sitting on would most likely not be able to hold all three of us-" "I can fix that" Roman said as he joined the scene, he wrapped his arm around Logan, slightly startling his nerd of a boyfriend.
"Virgil, close your eyes, I have a surprise." he stated. Virgil tensed up a bit, worry settling in once again. Patton noticed and smiled "I'll do it too kiddo, see?" He asked as he took off his glasses and closed his eyes, sticking his tongue out as he did so. This, despite it being childish, actually cheered Virgil up, which eased him into being comfortable enough to close his eyes, this is Roman, his boyfriend, he wouldn't do anything to hurt him.
After a few moments, Roman spoke, his voice sounding much softer and closer than before "Okay, Virgil, open your eyes." When Virgil did so, he was met with a beautiful scene. They were still in a forest type scenario, only now in a clearing the four of them sitting on top of a hill, leaning against a tree, (Someone get this please) in the middle of a huge field of different color flowers. The area of the field to their left was covered in deep blue blotch pansies, to their right, was filled with light blue scorpion grasses. Virgil looked around to the backside of the tree they were against, and sure enough, there lay a field of red rose, and finally, in front of them were dark purple calla lilies.
Roman smiled as Virgil glanced around awestruck. "Like it?" He asked. Virgil slowly nodded as he turned to face him. "Yeah... this is... great" He said. Logan cleared his throat "It is, quite satisfactory, Roman." he said as he took his place sitting at Virgil's right. Patton giggled, "Yeah it's amazing!!!" He said sitting on Logan's other side. "Why thank you, my loves." Roman was going to continue to brag about how great he was, when Virgil's yawn interrupted him. "Tired, kitten?" He asked, Virgil blushed but nodded "yeah, but now I wanna know why you're calling me 'Kitten.'"
Roman chuckled "Because you hiss, and enjoy when we mess with your hair, like a little kitten." "Hey! I only hissed like once!" Virgil said in a feeble attempt to defend himself. "Actually, it was twice..." Logan chimed in. "You hissed at me during our one on one debate" "See!" Roman said triumphantly. "Shut up..." Virgil mumbled as his face grew even more red, only barely being visible through his foundation. Alas another yawn escaped him. "You truly are tired" The Prince said as he wrapped his arm around the anxious trait, who was now cuddling into his side. "Well of course he is, the level of mental and emotional strain that brutal of a panic attack has over him is definitely exhausting." Logan said before being shushed quietly by Patton, who had begun cuddling up to Logan in much the same was Virgil was to Roman, exhaustion quickly beginning to overtake him as well.
Logan smiled wrapping his arm around Patton, who gave a smile back in return. As the sun began to set, Virgil was already fast asleep, not to long after, Patton fell asleep. Logan only noticed once he stopped responding to the quiet and pleasant small talk the three had. There was a pleasingly calm silence between the two who remained awake, but as the moon rose, it illuminated Logan's slumped posture, and peacefully sleeping expression.
Roman didn't sleep until a few hours had passed, his reason being that, he wanted to be awake in case anything tried to harm his boyfriends as they slept, who knew if a snake in the grass, metaphorically and literally, was lurking? But soon enough, Roman gave in to his exhaustion, and fell into a deep and tranquil, slumber.
