It was just a normal morning, Logan was awoken by his alarm sounding on the table beside him. Unhooking his boyfriend's arms from around his waist he sat up on the edge of the bed and shut off the alarm. He stayed there for a moment still trying to fully wake up, before picking up and putting on his glasses, blinking a few times to get his eyes to fully adjust. "Roman, get up," Logan spoke, his tone still having that slight hint of drowsiness to it, as he stood up. Before he could leave the room however, he felt a warm hand wrap around his wrist.
He rolled his eyes, already predicting how and what Roman would say, and his own response to it. What actually came out of his boyfriend's mouth caught him off guard making his mind fall out of the routine, normally, Roman whines childishly saying 'Five more minutes' and begging like an immature little kid, but this morning, it was different. "Please..." It was the same phrase as usual, but the tone is what made it a contrast to what the was used to in the morning. It was quiet, fragile sounding, and soft.
'That's a new tactic' He thought to himself, he glanced over his shoulder, confusion evident on his face as he turned to fully face Roman, making him let go of his hand. Roman's expression showed that this probably wasn't some new tactic to get to stay in bed longer. His eyes were half-lidded and darker than normal, he wasn't pouting like his normal immaturity would allow him to do normally, his expression read desperation in its purest form. His lips parted subtly, as he spoke again, "Please stay... Just for a few more minutes..." Logan stayed quiet for a moment, unsure of whether or not his boyfriend was just giving abnormally good performance or if he was serious.
Roman's eyes fully opened and quickly shifted their gaze over to the clock, before looking back to Logan his expression now seeming like borderline panicked, "Please." He spoke again, now louder and more prominent than before. Logan gave in after a few moments, "Alright... Are you, okay Roman?" He asked as he laid back down in bed, lacing his glasses back where they had been previously. "I'm fine, just... go back to sleep," Roman muttered, wrapping his arms back around Logan's waist as they were before, only hiding his face into Logan's shoulder more than he was earlier.
Logan sighed, deciding that he would just ask him about it later, got comfortable and closed his eyes. He actually managed to drift off to sleep again, but not deep sleep, luckily. He was woken up abruptly by the overwhelming feeling of... being watched...
Without even glancing at the room he sat up, grabbed his glasses and put them on. Only once his eyes had adjusted to the subtle light seeping through the blinds, did he notice two things, the feeling of Roman's usually soft grip around him becoming tighter and tighter, as well as his blunt nails painfully digging into his side.
The other thing he noticed, instantly made the pain and irritation from Roman fade, on the far corner of the room, was a figure. It's entire body was black, shaped like a human shadow, yet it wasn't solid, it was hazy and blurred.
The thing that gave him the feeling of being watched was its piercing deep blue human like eyes that were staring at him, keeping direct eye contact with him. He felt like screaming, but the nails pressing into his side made him remember Roman right beside him.
"Don't move..." His boyfriend whispered quietly, Logan did as he was told and stayed completely still. That's when the figure, broke eye contact with him and looked to Roman, it's eyes spiralling with a purple color as it slowly changed from deep blue to bright red as it looked at him, its head tilted on its side in an inhumanly crooked position.
Logan blinked and suddenly the figure was at the end of the bed, no longer interested in him, keeping it's captivating gaze on Roman, whose face was still buried into Logan's shoulder, he could feel his shaky breath against his skin.
Acting instinctively, he broke his focus on the figure and glanced at Roman, his eyes were shut, he was shaking subtly, what was this thing? Enough to scare Roman... When he looked back at the figure, it was looking at him again, its eyes were back to that deep blue color.
A little below the eyes a white line became visible and curved upwards into a smile... In a voice that mimicked theirs, yet sounded glitchy and distorted it spoke, "None of you are safe..." Before grinning widely, its left eye turning bright red again, and fading away into nothing.
Instantly, Roman let go of him, and sat up. Hyperventilating, breaking down into loud ugly sobs, Logan was trying to let his own breath go, not even realizing that entire time he had been barely breathing. "Roman.... What was that...." He asked once his breathing had become a bit more stable. Roman continued to sob, only able to mutter out broken and barely coherent words, "I-I'm sorry... I-I... should've just... let yo-ou go on... I didn't wanna be alone with it... A-Again."
"What... Was it?," Logan repeated, seeing Roman in hysterics and not being able to help him was killing him but he couldn't focus his mind was going through every logical possibility of what that could have been, was it another dark side? No no no, he had met them all already and it didn't look like Thomas, was it some kind of physical manifestation of a mental illness? No, he would know if Thomas was dealing with something worse than anxiety, no offense to Virgil. A single steady word made him snap back into reality.
"Logan," Roman stated, his breath steadying, "You know... A lot of mental things, phenomenons that are strange but... Common in humans, correct?" The way Roman spoke, worried him, he was still just as quiet as he had been when he was begging Logan to stay with him earlier, and he sounded serious, which was unheard of for Roman.
Slowly, Logan nodded, "Yes, of course... That's my job." Roman paused, wiping his eyes to rid his face of the tear streaks that had managed to stay there, "There's a common... thing... where... Some people will imagine creepy, twisted or gruesome scenes for no reason, and outright scaring themselves half the time, right?"
"Yes, that is a fairly common occurrence that I have noticed... What are you saying, Roman?," Logan asked, Roman gulped, "That... Is what the figure was... That was the dark imagination... A-And... It's my fault.."
"What?"
Roman sighed as he began to tell the story, "a few years ago, around the time Thomas was performing in Heathers, I was creating an overly elaborate scene, it was one of my first times creating the entire kingdom scenario, and not just the castle. I had finished the scene, but one thing was missing, every fairytale-"
"Needs a good old fashioned villain, I am proud of you for quoting that but now is not the time."
"I'm aware, I just couldn't resist myself, and yeah.. That he-" Roman cleared his throat, "It... was supposed to be just another one of the character constructs, like my current citizens, constantly tied to that scene not meant to or able to come out of the imagination, but I wanted a villain that matched me that was a challenge, so I tried to make it, like me, in every way, my mirror, but only his intentions would be malicious, he'd-fuck... IT would be evil for the sake of being evil no pinpoint reason, for it... But... I just... Lost control of it.. It disappeared before I was done making it, I stopped and made the scene vanish and it wasn't in the room with me or so I thought..." Roman paused again, tears beginning to form at the corners of his eyes once again.
"Roman...? You don't have to-"
"Yes, I do. It's important... I don't know how it could affect you. A few weeks later I had forgotten about it, and, it came back when I was asleep, exactly as it did just now... Only I was alone... And, it didn't disappear, It grabbed my shoulder, i-it's hands were freezing cold, claw like, not like I had made it.... and it smiled at me... and... I... I couldn't summon my sword... to fight it... It had like... a death grip on me... I couldn't even move... and then it... just vanished... then.. For the rest of the day, I started..." Tears were pouring down his face now, he was shaking again, his breaths were quicker, Logan put his arm around him, repeating that he can stop if he needs to, but the creative side was adamant and stubborn.
"I started hallucinating..." His voice a whisper again, "They were.. What I had originally planned for him-it... Whatever, him. How I had originally planned for him to look like, running around me chanting over and over 'you failed you failed you failed, now I'm more than what you wanted me to be...' but the next day, they stopped... and they didn't come back, for months, I didn't hear him or see him or anything for months! I forgot about it almost... And then it happened again, and now it's on a schedule almost, every other month, he comes back to taunt me, which sounds pathetic and like nothing but I know he can and will do more than scare me eventually... And I didn't want to be alone, today...."
"How.... How did you know he was going to show today is like a certain date?" Was all Logan could manage to ask at that point, despite the millions of other questions swarming around in his head.
"I typically get some kind of nightmare... Something that involves him, a scene I would have made a battle between me and him looking the way I was supposed to make him and yet, I always lose... and Last night, I had that nightmare, it was the worse it had been... I'm... I'm so sorry I dragged you into this Logan.... I'm so sorry..."
