The tight grip on Roman's hand began to loosen, making him quickly move to grab Patton's wrist, tears invading his eyes. "Patton, Patton, please..." He whimpered, "please just a little longer, please, my love." Patton blinked a few times, his eyes still staying half-lidded, "'m really, really, tired... Roman..." his words were barely audible. "I know... I know my sunshine, but, please, stay awake, just a little longer for me..." Roman begged in the false hope that he could maybe make these last few moments last as long as possible. He could hear Virgil sobbing outside, being comforted by his boyfriend, Logan. He wanted to stay strong, he knew if he broke down now, it would only upset his husband laying in the hospital bed more.

"Can... Can you remember the day we met, Darling? Talk to me about that?" Roman requested, Patton gave a soft laugh in response, of course, it only lasted for a few seconds as he began coughing soon after, "You... You know... you know already!" he said, with a tired smile. Roman nodded, "I know... But I would like to know if you know" he grinned, trying so hard to ignore their surroundings, ignore the fact that they were in a hospital, ignore the fact that Patton wouldn't see the next sunrise, ignore the fact that he'd never hold his love again.

Patton took a breath as he began to remember that day. "It was pretty... it wasn't cold or hot... it was perfect... I was in the park... singing-" he broke off into another fit of coughs, his eyes watering, first due to the intense pain, and second due to the situation, he knew, he was well aware what Roman was trying to do, and he wanted it as well, one last trip down memory lane... before... He couldn't help the tears that fell down his freckled cheeks, but his face was being held, the tears were being wiped away by his sweetheart's hands. It wasn't an unfamiliar sensation, of course, they have both cried before, both been comforted by one another before, both made one another cry before... in both bad and good ways... More good than bad, however...

"It'll be alright, Patton..." Roman murmured as he shushed Patton in an attempt to calm his sobs. Patton shook his head, "No, no it won't be..." Roman continued to try to calm his love down, seemingly to no avail for a few minutes, but eventually, Patton calmed down. There was a soft silence between them as Roman's hands fell from his face and to Patton's interlocking their fingers as he held them tightly. "Roman..." Patton murmured, "can you do something for me?" Roman nodded instantly, "Anything for you, angel"

"Hold me?" the words came out quietly, almost in a whisper, "Just... Just until..." he cut himself off, he didn't want to say it, he knew it was going to happen soon, but he didn't want to think about it too much right now... "I don't believe I'd be able to get on the bed with you..." Roman stated. Patton shifted over, wincing as the wires and needles he was hooked up with moved with him, uncomfortably, "Yes, you can... Please... Please..." Roman nodded and did as he was asked, climbing onto the bed. He carefully wrapped his arms around Patton, trying to avoid messing with any of the wires around and attached to him as he did so.

They both shifted until Patton was laying on top of Roman, the cold blanket over them. Patton's head rested against Roman's shoulder, their fingers and arms intertwined together around Patton's chest. Roman could feel him breathing, this is good... there's still time, even if it is a minuscule amount, it's still time... They stayed silent for a minute, sharing small, soft kisses and just staying in one another's embrace, appreciating the warmth and comfort the other brought one last time. "Roman?" Patton whispered,

"Yes, my darling?"

"I love you..."

"I love you as well, more than anything else in the world."

Patton smiled, his eyelids growing heavy as he rests his head against Roman's shoulder. He shut his eyes, a sigh of breath leaving him, his tight grip on Roman's hand loosening and falling limp, and finally, the EKG machine flatlining. Roman broke down into sobs, "Rest now, my love..." he cried holding Patton closer, "Rest now..."

A year later, Virgil and Logan stood over the two gravestones placed side by side... "You get how Roman died, right?" Virgil murmured, trying desperately not to break down as he thought about his now deceased friends. "Well, yes, the report says it was a heart attack," Logan stated, a bit bluntly, of course he was obviously in pain over their deaths as well, but he can tell Virgil is attempting to hold back from crying long enough to get his point across, and if he begins to break down himself, that would cause a chain reaction. Virgil shook his head, "No- Well, yeah sure, that's what actually caused his death... but... two months later? Exactly two months later?" he asked, "It was exactly two months after Patton... that isn't just a heart attack, Logan..."

"Then what is it?"

"Heartbreak..."
