Whumptober day 27 ("I can't walk.")
Q: have you seen the camp camp Halloween special!?
Pairing: Prinxiety
(due to some personal reasons I won be able to complete the prompt/story for day 28: severe illness. I'm so sorry it's just really close to home.)
“Roman there's no way we can take that dragon down. It's impossible!” Virgil exclaimed as he dodged a scalding fireball that hurdled towards him. “We can't just let it destroy the village! Patton's there with Logan trying to evacuate everyone, we need to buy them some time.” Roman explained as he drew his sword.
Virgil feared that Roman would end up hurting himself, but he swallowed back his fear and ran to join him by his side. The dragon was nothing Roman had ever faced before, it was twice the size of a regular dragon, its skin was thicker making it hard to cut through. It breathed out mountains of fire and spat out flaming hot balls of fire. Its claws were huge and sharp, so sharp they cut through rock and boulders.
Roman looked for a weak spot, he gripped onto his sword and dodged a claw. Virgil huffed as he barely dodged another ball of fire, the heat radiated and slightly burned his arm. Roman huffed and wiped the sweat from his brow. “Are you okay Virgil?” He asked from afar. Virgil took a breath. “I'm fine!” He replied. The prince gasped and immediately dodged a falling tree, he grunted and fell harshly on his shoulder.
He hissed and picked himself up just in time to dodge a claw. Virgil ran to his aid and took his arm. “There's no way we can take this thing down.” He repeated. “It just keeps on coming at us with blunt force.” Something suddenly clicked. “It never turns its back.” Roman muttered. He looked around his surroundings and found a way to sneak behind the beast, but he was too slow, and his arm was injured. “Virgil. I need you to do something crazy.” He said.
The pair ran to a safe zone and Roman quickly handed his sword over to the anxious trait. “I'll distract it, while you sneak behind it and strike the nape of its neck.” He explained to him. Virgil's mouth dropped and his eyes widened. “You seriously think I can slay that thing? Have you gone crazy!?” He screeched. “You're faster than me at the moment, I can distract it for you.” Roman retorted.
Virgil frowned and looked down at the sword in his hand. “Will you be okay?” He asked. Roman simply shrugged. “Depends on how things turn out.” He answered truthfully. Virgil bit down on his bottom lip and fiddled with the handle of the sword. “I don't know...” He mumbled nervously. “You can do this Virgil, I know you can.” Roman nodded.
Virgil closed his eyes and took a deep calming breath. “Okay.” He breathed. “I can do this.”
Soon the pair was in plain sight, the dragon charged towards them. Roman gritted his teeth and nodded to Virgil before he gathered a few rocks and started throwing them at the enraged beast. Virgil easily snuck by the angry beast and climbed a steep hill in order to get some momentum. He couldn't climb the dragon without it noticing so he was going to have to jump and strike it, he had only one shot at it. He had to make it count.
Roman hissed in pain when he threw another rock with his bad arm, the dragon was only getting more angrier while Roman grew weaker. The prince huffed and fell to his knees finally giving into his exhaustion, he caught his breath and braced himself as the dragon swung at him. Roman felt like he were being hit by a semi truck, there was a huge force, the breath was immediately knocked out of him, he was flung from where he kneeled and felt himself flying, no more like zipping, in mid air until he slammed harshly against a boulder. He heard something snap before he fell to the ground, gasping, wheezing.
From afar he heard a shout and then a roar, the ground beneath the writhing prince rumbled violently. Roman painfully turned his head, the dragon lied on the ground, breathing slowly, weakly. Virgil tumbled off with sweat pouring down his face, his chest heaved raggedly. Roman groaned and turned on his stomach with much effort, his torso oddly numb despite him having been writhing in pain not that long ago.
He pushed himself up but suddenly feel back down, he huffed and tried once again, still he was not able to get up.
He turned back on his back and tried not to panic. Virgil soon ran to his aid and kneeled beside him. “I did it Roman.” He panted. Roman smiled and cupped his cheek. “I knew you could, I'm so proud of you.” He told him. “Come on, we have to meet up with the others.” Virgil urged and took hold of his hand. Roman pursed his lips and quickly shook his head. Virgil stopped his actions and frowned at the sick looking prince.
“What's wrong?” He asked anxiously.
Roman swallowed the lump in his throat and blinked away his tears.
“Virgil.” He whispered.
“I can't walk.”
