Whumptober day 22 (friendly fire)
Q: witch or wizard?
No pairing
“Roman, you can't kill him, it's Virgil, please you have to believe me!” Patton begged as he tugged at Roman's arm. The prince shook his hand off and unsheathed his sword, hatred pooled in his eyes. “That beast killed Virgil Patton. You're delusional!” He retorted.
Patton shook his head and followed after him as he stomped towards the huge, trapped dragon, the beautiful beast was black with a few purple scales. A large, chained net held him down keeping him in place, unable to move. “Please Roman I beg you. Please don't kill him.” Patton pleaded, his eyes were filled with tears. Roman stopped in his tracks and looked his brother up and down, the poor male had been through a lot. He had lost his brother, lost his family, his lover.
Roman wouldn't be surprised if he had gone mad by now.
He sighed and took his shoulders. “Brother you are ill.” He stated. Patton opened his mouth to say something but Roman shushed him and pulled him into a one-armed hug. “I know how hard it has been for you, but I promise as soon as I slay this beast we will live happily once again.” He promised.
Patton gritted his teeth and choked down a sob. He clung to Roman and silently cried against his chest. “If you truly love me brother...” He gasped out. “Then you will not kill this dragon.” Roman felt his heart swell with guilt and pain. He reluctantly pulled away from the embrace and cupped his face. “You will forgive me one day.” He told him before knocking him unconscious. Patton slumped against his chest and Roman held back his tears.
He called for a guard to take his brother. “See that he gets proper treatment.” He told the guard and carefully handed his brother over to the guards open arms. “Please Logan, he's been through a lot.” The prince begged. The guard nodded and took Patton with him. When the pair disappeared into the castle Roman sighed and turned to face the struggling dragon. “You've stolen everything from me. You stole my brother...” Roman allowed a few tears to fall. “He was the only person who held our small family together and you took him from us!” He roared.
The beast looked at him with wide purple eyes, a low grumble erupted from its throat, resembling a whimper. Roman wiped away his tears and recollected himself, he gripped onto the hilt of his sword and took a deep breath. “I'll slay you, and then everything will be okay again.” He muttered. The dragon had stopped struggling, it was useless to struggle, no one would save him this time.
It just watched as Roman approached him, his sword raised, ready to strike. The dragon whined softly before shutting its eyes. Roman yelled and finally with all his strength he struck the dragon with his sword, a loud painful howl filled the sky...
And then silence.
Roman breathed heavily and backed away from the limp beast, and suddenly its form began to change. It seemed to be...shrinking.
Roman took a few steps back and watched as the dragon shrunk until it changed into a boy, dressed in torn purple rags. The prince dropped his sword, catching a sob. He covered his mouth, his eyes widened in shock and realization. He felt sick to his stomach, bile rose to his throat.
He fell to his knees and felt his eyes overflow with tears.
In front of him, lying on their back, a huge gash across their chest, blood pooling beneath their pale and unmoving form, was Virgil.
Roman and Patton's little brother...
