“We gotta stop meeting up like this.” Virgil grinned cheekily as he helped Roman up from the ground, the drama nerd blushed deeply and quickly pulled his hand away from Virgil's own. He sputtered and wiped his now sweaty hand on his pants. “I-I'm really sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going and—” he was cut off by a chuckle. “Dude, relax I'm not gonna beat you up or anything.” Virgil assured and lightly punched Roman's shoulder.

The boy flinched at the touch, his eyes growing wide behind his red rimmed glasses. The jock, quickly noticing, took a cautious step back and apologized to the frightened teen. “Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Uhm, I'm Virgil. Virgil Bl—”

“I know who you are.” Roman blurted out without a second thought, he squeaked and immediately shook his head. “I mean it's not like I stalk you or anything! I'm not weird, I'm actually just awkward you know? But sometimes I make people feel really uncomfortable which I really don't get seeing as how I'm in speech drama and debate meaning I should be a very good speaker, but people just don't seem to notice you know?” He huffed, face as red as a strawberry. Virgil could feel his head spinning, he took a breath and cleared his mind before flashing Roman another smile. “You really are something else, you know that right?” he claimed with a snicker.

Roman frowned. “Is...” he trailed off, looking a bit confused. “Is that an insult?” he questioned. Virgil's eyes widened and suddenly he barked with laughter, he gasped for breath and hugged his stomach. Roman felt like his face was going to melt off with how hot it felt, he fidgeted with embarrassment and twiddled his thumbs. “I was complementing you dummy.” Virgil said after he had recollected himself and ruffled the timid boy's hair. Roman opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out, he closed his mouth and clutched his books to his chest. “Come on, I'll walk you to class.” Virgil offered with a charming grin, and Roman silently cursed because how dare Virgil throw those smiles so freely?

The teen, after realizing that he had not said or done anything, immediately followed after Virgil. “Ah, I'm supposed to be at the fine arts building.” He explained bashfully, Virgil hummed in response and dug his hands into the pockets of his Letterman jacket. “Chill, so what if you're a little late?” he shrugged. Roman stopped in his tracks, a frown tugged down at his lips. “I can't be late, this is important to me. We're rehearsing for Dear Evan Hansen.” He huffed, Virgil looked over his shoulder and smiled at the boy. “Right, okay let's go.” He turned around and headed towards the gym where the mini auditorium was also located. Roman caught up with him and matched his pace. “You know you'd probably be an awesome Connor.” He stated.

Virgil scoffed, “you trying to flatter me pretty boy?” he teased, Roman fumbled with his words. “N-no it's just you have a lot of potential, and the looks. B-but I'm not calling you handsome or anything I'm just saying you're pretty good looking coming from another guy! Wait...please don't get it the wrong way I'm just saying in general and—” Virgil clapped his hand over Roman's mouth. “Seriously. You need to chill.” He reclaimed, Roman locked eyes with Virgil's own and was awestruck to see that he had piercing gray eyes that resembled a full moon, glittering and shimmering in all its glory. The jock turned away before he could lose himself in Roman's soft gaze, those chocolate eyes made him weak and caused his chest to flutter.

But even now he could barely hold himself together, his hand was pressed against Roman's lips. Those soft, pink lips, he could feel them against his palm it felt as though the teen were giving him a kiss on the hand. He removed his hand, although slightly disappointed, and gave a crooked smile. “Five minutes before the late bell rings.” He said and tapped at his wristwatch. “Heck.” Roman silently cursed and quickened his pace. “Might as well run for it right? I mean, the auditorium is literally halfway across the school.” Virgil suggested eagerly. Roman looked at him indecisively, his eyes squinted and he scrunched his nose as he thought about it.

Holy heck that nose scrunch was adorable. Virgil couldn't stop the overwhelming glee that filled his chest and made his heart soar. “Okay, but what if we get caught? What if we get in trouble and I miss rehearsals, and if I miss the rehearsal it'll be the end of me, and then I'll fail and drop out of highschool and not get accepted at my college of choice, and then I'll have to work at a freaking McDonald's.” The teen anxiously rambled on. “Dude you need to seriously be more chill.” Virgil cut him off once again, yet he was still amused by the cute nerd. “Was...was that a reference?” Roman gaped at him, eyes wide with surprise. Virgil groaned and took his hand, which was oddly...moist.

Roman squeaked as he was suddenly tugged forward, he tripped over his feet a couple of times but eventually he and Virgil were running through the empty hallways. “V-Virgil!” Roman cried out, and before he knew it he was falling. He squeezed his eyes shut, bracing himself for the impact of the fall, but it never came. He huffed as he harshly landed against Virgil's chest, the jock grunted and stumbled back against the lockers. His arms were wrapped securely around the smaller boy, he quietly gasped and lowered to the ground. “Roman?” he breathed and ran his hand through the boy's hair, the teen merely trembled. “Oh gosh, are you okay? Are you in any pain!? Please talk to me Roman.” Virgil begged and pried Roman away to get a look at him.

Roman was a mess.

A blushing mess.

His face was a hot fiery red which made his freckles pop, his hair was messy and disheveled, and his eyes were wide and glassy. “Roman?” Virgil whispered and lightly pinched his flushed cheek. The teen flinched and blinked hard, “this happens too much doesn't it?” he mumbled in a daze. Virgil sighed and slumped forward, leaning his head against Roman's shoulder. “You're okay.” He muttered. The teen nodded stiffly, Virgil's shoulders shook with a soft chuckle. “You scared me, you really did.” He admitted shakily, Roman was taken by surprise. “You were scared I was hurt?” he questioned. Virgil lifted his chin and nodded vigorously, “of course I was scared! Gahh…” He messed with his hair our of frustration. “Do you have any idea how terrified I was? I was already set to rush you to the nurses office.” He exclaimed.

Roman felt a warmth spread from his chest, it started at his heart and lingered on the tips of his fingers. Virgil suddenly grinned, the type of grin that meant he was up to something. “What?” Roman pouted and tilted his head to the side. “I guess you really fell for me huh?” Virgil joked and broke into a fit of laughter, Roman's mouth flew open. “I-I did not!” he claimed bashfully. Virgil smiled and got up from the ground, pulling Roman up along with him. “You might be late for class, I'm really sorry. Guess you're gonna end up working at McDonald's now.” Virgil said with an apologetic look, but his smile never faltered.

Roman shrugged and returned the smile. “It's just one rehearsal, so what if I miss one? They can't kick me out of the play either.” He stated happily, Virgil rose a brow. “How can you be so sure?” he asked as they both walked towards the gym. Roman giggled, Virgil saved it within his mind and cherished it with his heart that gradually skipped a beat. “The play can't go on without their Evan, of course it can't go on without a Connor either.” Roman suddenly frowned, Virgil hated seeing him frown. “If you don't mind, I can be Connor. I mean I'm not a great singer but with a lot, and I mean a lot, of practice I'm sure I can pull it off. ” He suggested with a light blush creeping up his face.

Roman beamed up at him. “S-seriously!?” he asked with a bewildered expression, “but what about your reputation? Your popularity? I mean, come on you're like the least expected person to be in a play and or musical, it's just too way out of your league.” He stated in a matter-of-fact tone. Virgil grinned. “Is that a challenge?” he hummed curiously. Roman rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Does everything have to be a challenge for you?” he grumbled, he then stopped. “But seriously though, you don't have to do it just because I said so. If you don't like it you don't have to push yourself out of your comfort zone.” He explained as he twiddled his thumbs, keeping his gaze on the floor.

Virgil took his hand which made Roman look up at him. “I want to do this. It sounds like fun, besides you'll be there too. What more could I ask for?” this time when he smiled Roman felt like a huge tidal wave of happiness and something he couldn't really describe slammed against him and engulfed him. He pursed his lips and gave Virgil's hand a small nervous squeeze. “That'd really be amazing….” he said with a wavering voice.

Virgil couldn't be happier, the warmness of Roman's palm against his own was comforting, for a moment he thought he felt his pulse and it felt as though he were holding his heart in his hand. “Hey Roman.” Virgil leaned closer, the geek froze beneath his gaze. “Y-yeah?” he stammered out. Virgil lifted his free hand and rested it on top of his head, Roman frowned and curiously looked up at him. “Uhmm.…”

Virgil flushed pink, Roman's hair was so freaking soft and curly! And with those big puppy dog eyes and adorable freckles! Virgil was absolutely smitten.

“Have you ever been this close to anyone before?” Virgil asked curiously, Roman took a breath. He could feel the weight of Virgil's hand in his own, could feel Virgil's nimble fingers intertwined within the locks of his hair. “No, never.” He replied truthfully in a hushed voice.

Virgil let out a long sigh, and a bright smile took over his face. “I'm happy to hear that.” He claimed giddily. “Alright, let's get going okay?” he stepped forward, but Roman made no move to follow in stead. “Is something wrong?” Virgil asked with concern lacing his voice. Roman shook his head, his free hand clutched at his chest right over his thundering heartbeat. “W-when you...you smile I get a bit envious of you, and maybe a little upset.” He stated shakily. “Do you think you can save some of those smiles for me?” he idly avoided eye contact with him. Virgil lit up, his heart was soaring in his chest like a bird set free from its cage. “For you? Always.” He promised.

Roman gave a shaky laugh and followed him towards the auditorium. “Does this mean we're together now?” the nervous teen asked. Virgil hummed in thought. “Don't know, how long have you been head over heels for me?” he chuckled. Roman bit down on his lip. “Honestly? Since middle school…” he replied quietly. Virgil went quiet, he paused right in front of the door and looked at Roman. He pulled the teen closer to him, wrapping an arm around his waist, and leaned forward.

Roman squeaked as Virgil neared his face, he quickly closed his eyes and waited, bracing himself. Virgil's forehead pressed against his own, the geek took a breath and opened his eyes to see a smirking Virgil. “Yeah, I'm definitely not letting you go now.” He claimed and leaned back, giving Roman his personal space. “We've been stalling for far too long, let's change the world nerd. One musical at a time.”

And they entered the auditorium together, hand in hand.
