(Prinxiety) because I love you
“Can you just back off already!?” Virgil roared angrily as Roman followed him. “I won't until you let me explain!” Roman replied with a frown. “Just leave me alone!” Virgil demanded and retreated to his room, his sanctuary, but before he could Roman grasped onto his wrist holding him captive.
He froze and glared at him. “Let. Me. Go.” He demanded in a low growl, Roman felt a shiver run up his spine but he kept his ground refusing to be intimidated by the trait. “I will not let you go until we talk things out.” He proclaimed. “There is nothing to talk about.” Virgil had successfully pulled himself out of his grasp and ran into his room, but Roman was quick to act and managed to slip in unnoticed.
That was until Virgil turned around and nearly had a heart attack when he saw the prince standing in front of him with a nervous look on his face, the prince ignored him and idly looked around and gawked at the new editions to the room. “You know I've always liked Coraline myself, mostly because it was a Tim Burton movie.” He said as he picked up a DVD case of said movie. “Get the hell out of my room.” Virgil gritted his teeth. “Virgil please let me talk—” Roman was cut off when the now enraged trait gave him a death glare.
Now, the reason why Virgil was so upset was because Roman had been following him around since early in the morning, and Virgil really valued his personal space, so when the prince suddenly barged into his space Virgil grew defensive and got easily annoyed. He was not used to the company. “What do you want!? I'm not going to give you my attention because I know that's what you want, you're so annoying and loud I can see why most people dislike you honestly! You're so narcissistic and you have an amazingly huge ego and the only person you seem to only care about is yourself, so why do you still bother me and follow me around even though it's clear that I absolutely hate you!?” He breathed raggedly.
Roman stood with a torn look on his face, he lowered his gaze and swallowed the lump in his throat. “It's because...” He took a shaky breath. “Because I love you.” He choked out before exiting the room not wanting Virgil to see his vulnerability. And then everything was silent, it took a while for Virgil to finally realize what he had done and all color drained from his face, his heart stuttered to a stop, what had he done?
He ran for the prince yelling out his name as he followed him, Roman briskly wiped at his eyes dampening the sleeves of his shirt, his heart ached, his chest felt like it were being squeezed, and each breath he took felt horrible. When he could no longer muster any more tears he simply bit his bottom lip choking back the horrible sob like sounds that ripped through his chest.
Is this what heartbreak felt like?
He ran past Patton who was at the kitchen and had asked him what was wrong before he ran out of the house, it was pouring outside, the rain came down in heavy icy sheets and instantly soaked the prince down to the bone, he suppressed a shiver and his feet sloshed in mud and puddles as he continued his escape. He couldn't bear to be under the same roof as Virgil, he needed to get out.
When he was certain that he was far enough he stopped and hugged himself as if trying to keep himself together in one piece, trying to fix his broken self by holding on. How long would he last? Even he didn't know, all he knew was that love hurt and brought an immense amount of pain. He felt like such a fool for ever thinking that confessing his love would be easy, he wouldn't have imagined that it would bring him this much pain.
Wasn't it suppose to be a happy thing? Just like in the movies where the prince and his love live in happily ever after? Why was it so different? Had Roman relied on his daydreams too much? The sound of splashing behind him broke him from his trance and he immediately turned on his heel to see who had followed him.
He was surprised to see Virgil there shivering in the rain with a look of utter remorse on his face. “Ro..Roman.” His teeth chattered. “I'm sorry, I...I didn't mean to hurt you, you were just in my p-personal space and I got a little annoyed.” He rubbed his arms. “I shouldn't have yelled at you, I really am sorry Roman..” He dropped his head and a dark blush tainted his pale cheeks. “I was so overwhelmed by your presence I barely had time to adjust, you make me nervous and jumpy whenever you're around me and I got annoyed because of that. And when you said you loved me I really freaked out...” He huffed. “I'm trying to say that I lo...” He pursed his lips, why was it so hard to say the simple words?
He gathered his courage and calmed his racing heart. “Roman, I love you too.” He lifted his head up to meet with the prince's eyes. “I love everything about you, I love the way you bring happiness and joy to everyone around you, and how you're so easy to approach and you make everyone laugh no matter any circumstances, and it makes me wonder...why in the world would you love someone like me?” He shook his head.
“I'm your opposite, I'm dark and gloomy, I scare most people and make them uncomfortable, I can't make people laugh or smile like you do..” He took a shaky breath through his chartering teeth. “So why do you still bother to love me?” He asked curiously.
Roman had to take a moment to process everything before he could answer, when he finally did he took a step towards Virgil and hesitantly reached for his hands, when he looked at him with curious eyes he simply smiled. “Haven't you ever heard the saying opposites attract?” He laughed and pulled the trembling trait into his arms. “How could I not love you? I think you're perfect just the way you are, I wouldn't trade you for anything else in the entire world.” Virgil felt his heart swell at his words and he instantly wrapped his arms around him. “You idiot..” He muttered and hugged him tighter.
That night they both slept in each others arms both of them too tired to change out of their soaked clothing, so when they awoke the next morning it wasn't at all a surprise when they both had colds, but neither of them didn't care, they were together and that was all that mattered.
