Stranger in the Bathroom (Anxiety x Logic)
Anxiety attack warning I suppose
It was really dumb. He knew it was a stupid reason to panic, knew he shouldn't have let it get to him but he hated when people were angry. It didn't even matter that he didn't know the guy, didn't matter that his anger wasn't even directed towards him, it as made him anxious. Now here he was, hiding away in a public bathroom, unable to breathe due to his panic.
He really hoped no one would walk in, God, that was the last thing he needed right now.
It seemed that the universe was not on his side today, as he heard the door open and someone making their way inside, their footsteps loud on the tile flooring. Painfully loud, with each step Virgil flinched, backing into the corner of the bathroom stall. He was crying, and of course with the universe against him he had made a noise.
The footsteps stopped. Virgil froze, hand over his mouth as he tried not to make another sound. He didn't want anyone to question why he was crying-oh how embarrassing would that be?
"Is someone in here?" The man on the other side of the stall door called, seeming concerned. "Are you alright?"
Virgil didn't know whether or not he should answer, or if he even could. He didn't want to. Was that rude? Hopefully the man would go away. What if he got mad at him for ignoring him?
"I'm fine." Virgil blurted, not wanting to make anyone mad or worried. He just wanted him to leave. Please, he begged silently, please leave. He was shaking now. "I'm fine, don't worry."
"You sounded like you were crying. Are you sure you're alright?" The man asked again. Virgil stayed silent for a while, contemplating whether or not he should respond.
"I have anxiety. I'm having an attack, so I hid in the bathroom. Please, just let me be." Virgil pleaded, and the man was silent for a while. Virgil sighed, feeling relieved. He must be leaving now, at least, he hoped.
This was definitely not helping to calm him down. Now all he could think about was how weird and stupid and crazy he must sound. Hiding in the bathroom crying, all because someone was grumpy and it made him anxious. Whoever that was was probably judging him right now, would probably tell all his friends about the crazy guy in the bathroom.
"So, I know this is weird." The man started to talk again, and Virgil froze once more. "Although we do not know each other, I understand dealing with anxiety is hard, and I would like to help. Would a distraction help?"
Virgil frowned. He wanted... to help him? Some random stranger he met in the bathroom? Virgil probably shouldn't complain-a distraction from his current panic sounded amazing.
"Y'know what, yeah. Yeah, a distraction sounds great right now." Virgil nodded, and did his best to focus all his attention on this moment. He would be fine, he could work through this. Don't worry about anyone or anything else.
"Okay, well, what's your name?" The man asked, and Virgil frowned. He was always a bit embarrassed to share his name-and he also definitely wasn't going to be the first to share his. He had already opened up to this man, now he was going to find out more about him before revealing anything else.
"You tell me yours first." Virgil insisted, and the other man laughed.
"Alright, well, I'm Logan. Now can I know yours?"
"It's... Virgil." He spoke hesitantly. "But, you can call me Verge for short."
"Alright, Verge." Logan started. "What's your favorite Disney movie?"
"That's very random." Virgil commented, and he heard Logan laugh again. He liked his laugh. It was nice.
"Well, it was the first thing I could think of. Is it helping to distract you?" It really was helping. Virgil couldn't remember any time before now that he was able to talk to a stranger so easily. Maybe it helped that he couldn't see his face.
"Yeah, it is." He admitted, smiling slightly.
"Then answer the question. What's your favorite Disney movie?" He asked again, and the two went on talking like this for a while. It was definitely helping calm Virgil, and he was very glad this random stranger had come along to save him from his own thoughts.
"We've been talking for a while." Logan said after some time, sounding worried.
"Did you have to be somewhere now? I didn't keep you, did I? I'm sorry." Virgil worried, and Logan chuckled.
"No. You're fine, I didn't have anywhere to be. I was worried that you did, actually." He admitted, and Virgil laughed too.
"No, coming here was the only social thing I had planned today, and well. You know how that went."
"I'd say it went rather well, you met someone very intelligent and handsome who'd like to talk to you again sometime after this." Logan spoke confidently, and Virgil laughed again.
"Well, I don't exactly know if you're handsome or not." He teased, grinning.
"Oh I am, trust me on this." Logan paused for a moment, then spoke again, more nervously. "But, I did mean it when I said I'd like to talk again. Also... you do know you can come out of there now, right?"
Virgil frowned. He had thought about it, but, shocker, he was a little too anxious. "Uh, yeah... Sorry."
"You don't have to, obviously." Logan spoke quickly. "I can just, go if you want, that's fine too-"
"No, no, please don't." Virgil called out, afraid of him leaving before he got the chance to see him. He wanted to know who had saved him from his anxiety. "Uh... give me a second."
Virgil took a deep breath, unlocking the door slowly. He let it swing open and stepped out, staring at the floor. Taking another breath to calm himself he looked up, smiling at Logan. "Hi."
"Hi," Logan smiled back, both of them taking in the others appearance. "You know, I think your looks fit you very well." He pointed out, noticing all of the black he wore.
"And you look nothing like I expected. You dress so... professionally, but you're not entirely serious all the time." Virgil commented. "You're actually pretty funny."
"Are you saying I don't look like I'd be funny?" Logan frowned, and Virgil laughed and nodded.
"Yeah, kinda. But, uh, but you are! Very funny, and also very, uh... very handsome. Just like you said." Virgil grinned nervously, and Logan smiled.
"You are also very handsome." He nodded, and Virgil's cheeks burned a bright red.
"Thanks..." he muttered, looking to the floor. "Uh, you said you wanted to talk again, right? Would you... like my number?"
"Yes, that would be great." Logan nodded, and the two exchanged numbers, smiling at each other afterwards.
"It was nice to meet you, Virgil."
"Yeah, thanks for... helping me out." Virgil smiled back.
"It was no problem. I had fun." Logan glanced away for a second, nervously considering something, before very quickly leaning forward and pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Hope to see you again soon."
He turned and left without another word, leaving Virgil a blushing mess behind, standing in the bathroom wondering what exactly had just happened.
He really hoped they would see each other again soon.
So this one was a little weird but I liked it. Also yeah I get so anxious whenever people are mad, even if they're not mad at me or anything like if they are mad at another person or just in general frustrated I can't be around them or I'll panic but hey it gave me inspiration for a oneshot so? I guess at least something good is coming out of me being an anxious sad mess.
Really tho, my anxiety's been so bad lately it's frustrating. I just wish there was a way-literally any way at all for it to just go away.
I'm pretty sure I know what caused it to get so bad again too but I literally can't do a single thing about it and I hate it.
On a different note hey, can an adorable and smart guy (gal or nonbinary pal) like Logan save me from my own anxiety and stupid thoughts and then ask me out like that'd be great please why doesn't this kinda stuff happen irl
Hope you enjoyed this, thanks for reading. *ring pops magically summoned with Harry Potter wand*
