Soulmates Part 2 (Prince x Anxiety)

I haven't even gotten out of bed yet today but two people requested one with Roman and Virgil and I had an idea so yeah here we go haha

Soulmates.

Everybody had them, and Roman personally loved the idea of them. He often fantasized about finding his own soulmate, imagined how he might look, how things would go when they realized how their powers were made for each other. How Roman would ask them to marry him when the time was right, and how their life together would be. Everyone knew Roman was a hopeless romantic.

Virgil was the opposite. He didn't like the idea of being forced to spend his life with someone just because the universe told them to. He thought soulmates were a horrible idea-shouldn't you be free to date and learn and gradually fall in love with someone? Why should people have a soulmate made for them? Love shouldn't be this perfect thing. Love should be about working things out when they go wrong, and helping each other to see things they wouldn't have thought of before.

Love wasn't as simple as find each other, fall in love, and live the rest of your life with no troubles. That's how everyone treated soulmates, and that's why Virgil never wanted one.

The two of them met under strange circumstances.

Roman had found Virgil hiding in the school bathroom, crying and shaking. Roman, always trying to be the hero, rushed over to him to ask what was wrong and how he could help.

"It-its nothing." Virgil shook his head, pushing him away. "Don't worry about it." He hated bothering other people with his problems.

"Clearly it isn't nothing." Roman frowned, not trying to get closer again but not leaving either. "If you don't want to talk about it that's fine, but if you need someone to help you calm down... I can help you."

Virgil didn't say anything. He didn't want to be rude-if he was being honest he wouldn't mind having someone sit with him and help-but he didn't want to admit he needed someone's help. He sighed, looking down and shrugging his shoulders. Roman took this as an invitation to sit back next to him, silently holding his hand.

Not long after Virgil felt himself calming down. Not completely, he was still nervous, but he felt safe. Protected. Virgil looked down at Roman's hand holding his, and then back up to his face. "How did you do that?"

"I can help calm anxiety with my ability. It's not a cure, obviously, but it makes it a little better." Roman flashed him a grin, and Virgil couldn't help but smile back.

"That's cool." He said, taking a deep breath and leaning back against the wall. He still hadn't let go of Roman's hand. "Thanks. That really helped."

"It's not a problem," Roman looked over at him, still smiling. "My name's Roman, by the way."

"Virgil." He looked back over at Roman. "Roman is a cool name."

"Virgil fits you." Roman nodded thoughtfully. The two of them sat in silence for a while, still holding each other's hands.

"Don't you need to be in class, Roman?" Virgil asked after a while, and Roman shrugged.

"Don't you?" He fired back.

"Already late. What's the point?" He shrugged as well. Silence fell again, both of them not knowing what to say or do now.

"So, I have a question." Roman broke the silence this time.

"Shoot."

"Well, you know my ability now. What's yours? You don't have to answer unless you want to, I'm just curious." Roman added nervously, not wanting to seem rude.

"Mine? Well... I guess I should start by saying I don't really believe in the whole soulmates thing. I think it's kinda dumb." Virgil shrugged, and Roman frowned.

"What makes you say that?" He questioned.

"I dunno. I think having things fit perfectly like they do with soulmates, it's... it's silly. Nothing fits that perfectly in reality. I think if you really care about someone, then you have to realize you're going to be different. It isn't just perfect automatically, and you have to work together." Roman listened quietly as he explained, and despite his own thoughts about soulmates he found himself understanding Virgil's side of things.

"That does... make sense." He nodded. "Although I personally have always loved the idea of having a soulmate, I can see where you are coming from."

"Right well, now that you know that about me... I'm able to help people see reality better. I guess whoever my soulmate is meant to be is a big dreamer." Virgil shrugged nonchalantly, smiling slightly. "I have to admit, even though I don't think things should be perfect like that I always wonder who my soulmate is. I wonder if maybe the reason I think the way I do about soulmates is because whoever it is is gonna be a lot different from me, and so we'll have to work together to get through things. But everyone has always made it seem like things are perfect when they meet their soulmate, like they never argue or see things differently. I wonder if maybe I just have the wrong idea about it."

"I've honestly always thought having a soulmate would be perfect, but now I'm beginning to question that. You're right, a relationship with anyone is hard. There are things you have to work out, and I don't see why that would be any different even with a soulmate." Roman agreed, nodding thoughtfully. "Since we're... talking about soulmates, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe... we have already found ours."

Virgil looked up at him abruptly, seeming shocked. "You think that we..."

"Yeah?" Roman started hesitantly. "I mean... I found you having an anxiety attack-I'm assuming that's what it was-and I have the ability to calm people. I'm a huge daydreamer, people tell me I often have my head in the clouds, and you help people see things more realistically. It... well, it fits."

"I guess it does, yeah..." Virgil looked away from Roman, feeling too embarrassed to face him.

"I know you said you don't really like the idea of soulmates," Roman took a deep breath. "That you think things should happen gradually. So, maybe we won't just jump into things, but for now... Why don't we talk some more, as friends? We can hang out after school if you'd like. Maybe go out somewhere." He offered anxiously, looking over at Virgil.

Virgil looked back and smiled at Roman. "Yeah," he nodded. "That sounds great."

"Awesome! Well... we should, both probably get to our classes now." Roman laughed, realizing how long they had been talking. "See you around, soulmate."

Roman got up, helping Virgil up too before waving and turning to head to class. Virgil watched him go, smiling.

Soulmate. Maybe it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be.

I really love soulmate aus have I said that yet because I really do they're super cute. I am considering writing a lot more soulmate at things (maybe the color one, where you can't see it until you meet your soulmate or the one where you have the first words they'll say to you on your arm or something like that idk I might do a bunch of them I love them a lot)

I hope you guys liked it! I don't have anything to talk about here because I basically woke up, started writing this and then got some food before finishing it so y'know, this is short. (Everyone who hates these end notes: yaaayyyy he's not annoying us anymore this is a miracle)
