Woodland (Logicality)

Because I can't end this day having written a terrible, angsty one shot, here. Some Logicality for the soul

Patton sighed. He was bored out of his mind. Some people might think that being a woodland sprite (or as they were more commonly known, a fairy) would be interesting. It was not. It was like being a human except you lived in the woods all the time and you had wings. You didn't even get magic!

"Hey, Ro!" Patton yelled to his roommate.

"What?"

"I'm going out." Patton yelled, getting up and flapping his wings to get feeling back in them.

"Okay! Be back before sunset!"

Patton rolled his eyes affectionately. "I know the rules, Kiddo." He yelled before hovering off the ground and flying off, into the forest.

Logan was bored. There were no more books to read and the internet held about as many interesting facts as a thimble. Logan sighed and stretched. Maybe he should take a walk in the forest nearby.

"Hey, Virgil?" He yelled. He heard an annoyed groan.

"What?" The very annoyed voice of his roommate yelled back.

"I'm going for a walk. I'll be back by 8."

"Take your time." Virgil muttered, just loud enough for Logan to hear. Logan rolled his eyes, grabbed the house keys and exited the flat.

Patton was sitting on a tree branch, listening to the birds sing, when he heard someone walking below him. He knew he was pretty well hidden so he looked down to see who it was. It was a human. This confused Patton. No human ever came this far into the woods. Not that Patton was complaining, this was the prettiest human he'd ever seen. He had dark brown hair and eyes like the ocean. Patton was leaning over the branches to get a better look at the human. Of course he'd seen humans before but he'd never seen one like this man. Suddenly, a branch snapped and the human looked up. Patton quickly hid himself in the tree.

"Hello?" The human asked cautiously. Patton's heart did a backflip. Even his voice was perfect. "If anyone is there, be warned, I have pepper spray and I'm not afraid to use it." The human said, fumbling in his pocket and extracting a little metal container. Patton giggled slightly. It sounded just like a bird singing. "Who-Who's there?" The human asked. Nothing happened. The human sighed. "It wasn't a person. Of course it wasn't." He muttered to himself as he put the little metal container back in his pocket. "You were thinking illogically, Logan. There's no one there."

Logan. The name sounded perfect to Patton. He watched as Logan walked away before flying out of the tree and off to talk to Roman.

Logan heard a snap of a tree branch and looked up. "Hello?" He asked. There was no answer but Logan was sure he had heard someone. "If anyone is there, be warned, I have pepper spray and I'm not afraid to use it." Logan said, grabbing the pepper spray from his pocket. He heard a noise that sounded like a cross between a giggle and a bird song. It unnerved him slightly. "Who-Who's there?" He asked again. There was no answer. Logan sighed and put the pepper spray away, mumbling to himself. He turned on his heel and walked off.

Hearing a rustle, Logan looked back. A tree's leaves were rustling and he thought he saw- no, that would be stupid. People didn't have wings. Shaking it off, Logan walked back to the college campus, deciding not to share this experience with Virgil who thought he was crazy as it is.

"Roman, Roman, Roman, Roman, Roman!" Patton yelled excitedly, dancing into his house.

"Woah Pat, calm down. And stop spinning, you're making me dizzy." Roman said, putting his hands on Patton's shoulders in an attempt to stop him spinning. "What's wrong? Are you alright?"

"I'm perfect!" Patton said, his eyes sparkling. Roman studied his face.

"Alright, shiny eyes, flushed cheeks, breathless appearance, been out in the world before this had happened," Roman's face split into a wide grin, "who is it?"

Patton grinned sheepishly. "I don't know."

The smile slid off of Roman's face. "It's not another Sprite is it? Pat, you know we aren't allowed to-"

"No, no! Roman, be calm. It's not a different Sprite." Patton giggled. "I'm not even sure he's a Sprite at all."

Roman's face grew worried. "Is it a human?"

Patton nodded, his eyes shining. "Only the most beautiful human of all time!"

"Pat, that's not good. You didn't, you didn't talk to him, did you?"

Patton shook his head and Roman sighed in relief. "I only watched him for a bit. Oh Roman, he was absolutely beautiful!" Patton exclaimed. "He had these adorable round glasses on and his hair was slicked back all business-like and-"

Roman listened to his friend explain every single detail about a human he'd never met with a tiny, wistful smile on his face. He remembered when he'd been like that. So dazzled by a human's beauty that he forgot which way was up and which was down. Roman hadn't seen that human in years, though. He doubted that the emo would remember what he looked like, let alone the small conversation they'd had.

Logan couldn't sleep that night. He kept tossing and turning, remembering the face of the figure with wings. It had been an ethereal creature, with long, pale wings and pointed ears. Their hair had been hazel, tinted a blueish-green and their eyes, from what Logan could see, had been a shiny brown. Logan tried to shake all thoughts of the creature from his mind. Fairies weren't real, he must keep reminding himself of that fact. Yet, there was no other word to describe what he had seen in the forest. It had been a fairy. That's why it must have been a hoax, a con of some kind. However, something in his mind told him that, no, what he had seen wasn't a con or a hoax and, just perhaps, fairies really did exist. Logan eventually fell into a fitful sleep, his dreams plagued by a beautiful woodland creature that was always just beyond his reach.

Wow. I am on a dark streak today. Sorry about that.
