Wall in the Way (Logicality)
"Dada? Dada?" A four-year-old Logan asked, pulling at his dad's coat.
"What's up Nerd?" His dad, Roman, asked good-naturedly, picking little Logan up and making him squeal.
"What's on the other side of the wall?" Logan asked, pointing behind Roman. Roman looked around and sighed.
The wall was an ancient structure made out of stone, with rose covering both sides of it. It had been there for generations.
"You'll find out when you're 15, Lo." Roman said, smiling at his son. Logan fiddled with the lace at Roman's coat's collar.
"How did you meet Papa, Dada?" He asked, earning a laugh from Roman.
"You want to hear that story again?" Logan nodded excitedly. Roman laughed again.
"What's got Princey so happy?" A voice from the wall asked. Roman laughed slightly, looking up at the darkly dressed man sitting on the wall.
"The little Nerd here wants to know how we met... again."
Virgil laughed, jumping down from the wall. "You sure you want to hear that story again, Lo?" He asked the toddler, who nodded frantically. "You'll be living it soon."
Logan cocked his head to the side. "What do you mean, Papa?"
"I mean that in 11 short years, you'll be able to cross the wall and find your true love. Or someone like Roman." Virgil said, earning a shove from his grinning husband.
"Why can't I meet them now? How will I know who they are when I meet them?"
Virgil and Roman looked at each other before replying. "You'll just know, Lo." Roman said softly. "You'll feel a connection."
A few days later, Logan was running his hand along the wall when he heard muffled crying from the other side.
"Hello?" He asked. The crying stopped only to be replaced by sniffles.
"Who-Who-Who's there?" A scared voice asked. Logan smiled slightly at the wall.
"I'm Logan Brown." He said proudly. "Who're you?"
"P-P-Patton." The voice sniffed. "Why are you talking to me?"
"You sounded sad. If you want me to, I can leave you alone." Logan said, starting to walk away.
"N-N-No! Please don't go." Patton whimpered. Logan sat down by the wall. "Can you sing?" Patton asked.
"A little bit."
"C-C-C-Can you sing to me? Please?" Patton asked timidly.
"Okay." Logan said cheerfully. "I made this little rhyme up yesterday with my dad. One, two, witch's shoe, three, four, Green Man's door, five, six, dragon sticks, seven, eight, merman's fate, nine, ten, fairy glen." Logan recited proudly. When he finished, he heard clapping floating over from the other side of the wall.
"That was really good." Patton said and Logan imagined him smiling.
"Logan!" Roman called. Logan bit his lip, slightly sad to leave his new friend.
"I have to go now, I'm sorry Patton." Logan said, standing up.
"Oh. Okie then." Patton said a little sadly. "I'll talk to you tomorrow then?"
"You bet."

It was a few years later and before they knew it, both Logan and Patton were 11. Logan and Patton had talked to each other every day and both had a crush on the other. They never admitted it though.
Logan growled as he stormed out of his house, towards the wall. His dads were being so annoying and he needed to talk to Patton right now. Sighing, he flung himself against the wall, not caring if he got pricked by the rose thorns or not.
"One, two, witch's shoe." Logan tried. There was a bit of silence.
"Three, four, Green Man's door." Patton muttered into the wall. Logan felt his face break into a small grin. "What's wrong, Logie?"
Logan sighed. "It's my dads. They say I can't see you for another 4 years."
"Hey, don't worry." Patton soothed. "It's only 4 years. They'll fly by."
"Yes but I want to see you now!" Logan yelled, looking up at the clouded sky. "I'm 11, I know how to look after myself."
"They only want what's best for you, Logie." Patton muttered. Logan sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"I know." He mumbled. "But I want to see you, Patton. I want to talk to you in person, to see you, to hold your hand to, to, to just do anything that isn't through a wall."
"I want to see you two, Logie." Patton giggled. "How about this. At sunrise on our 15th birthday, one of us scales the wall to meet the other one. When's your birthday?"
"5th of June."
"Oh." Patton whined. "Mine's the 13th of September. I guess I won't see your side of the wall for a long time. What's it like over there?"
Logan looked out over his garden. "There are lots of trees and a river. It's very rural and plants get to run wild. What about you?"
"There's a fountain and lots of paths." Patton explained. "And there are lots of bushes and a weeping willow. You'd love it over here, Logie."
"I'm sure I will. I'd better go now, Patton."
"Okie. Bye Logie."
Logan got up and walked away from the wall. 4 years wasn't that long anyway.

Logan woke up and looked at his watch. It was 3:30 in the morning, the 5th of June. Logan was finally 15. Sighing, he stared up at his ceiling before looking out of the window, noticing that the sun was almost rising. Patton! He could meet Patton now! Bolting out of bed, Logan grabbed some clothes that weren't his pyjamas and tried to get ready as quickly as he could. He couldn't wait.
Creeping across the garden, there was no sound apart from the swish of tree leaves. It was slightly unnerving to Logan. Pushing that away, he kept his mind on climbing the wall and meeting Patton. The roses were grown in such a way that you could grab onto some of them and climb the wall. Grabbing onto one of the rose stems, Logan put his foot in a crack between two bricks and started to climb the wall.
Eventually, Logan reached the top of the wall and looked over to the other garden for the first time. It was just how Patton had described it. There was a fountain quietly playing in the middle of the garden and a weeping willow planted very near the wall, it's leaves brushing the ground. Leaping down as quietly as he could, Logan made his way over to the weeping willow and hid among the leaves, waiting for sunrise.
Soon, someone came along, swinging their arms and giggling slightly. It was Patton. Logan felt his face heat up at seeing the boy he had grown up with for the first time. Patton had bouncing, shining brown curls, sparkling brown eyes hidden behind round glasses and his face and arms were dusted with millions of freckles. Logan thought he looked absolutely adorable.
"One, two, witch's shoe." Patton muttered, sitting down with his back against the wall.
"Three, four, Green Man's door." Logan mumbled, standing up. Patton looked over to Logan and screamed slightly. "Patton, please don't be alarmed. It's just me. It's just Logan."
"Logie?" Patton asked disbelievingly. Logan nodded and Patton squealed before running up to Logan and engulfing him in a bear hug. "You look exactly how I imagined." Patton said, squealing and giggling with excitement. "I forgot that today was your birthday. Well, I didn't forget, it just wasn't the first thing that came to mind. Have you been up all morning? Oh, I should've gotten you a present, shouldn't I?"
"Patton, Patton, breathe." Logan said, resting a hand on Patton's shoulder. "It's alright. I did not except you to remember that today was my birthday but it is and I am now 15. I can finally see you." Logan smiled slightly and Patton's face went slightly pink. Patton hugged Logan around his waist again.
"I'm so glad that you're here, Logie." Patton said into Logan's shirt. "That means that I can finally do this."
"Do what exact-" Logan was cut off by Patton lifting his head and pressing his lips against Logan's. Logan's eyes went wide before he quickly kissed Patton back. When they broke apart, they were both bright red in the early morning sun. Patton looked at Logan, turned even redder and hid his face in his hands.
"You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that." He mumbled into his hands. "Did you feel fireworks? Because I did."
Logan fixed his glasses and smoothed down his tie.
"Well, er, experiments often need one or two more tests to see if the outcome is the same." Logan said, trying very hard to keep his voice even. Patton nodded and smile shyly before closing the gap between him and Logan again.
It was a few hours later and Logan had just jumped into his garden, still pink in the face. Hearing clapping, he looked up.
"Heya Nerd." Roman said, startling his son.
"Oh! Hi Dad." Logan muttered.
"We saw everything." Virgil said, appearing by Roman's side and making Logan blush an even darker red. Roman looked over the wall.
"Patton's a good kid. He'll treat you right."
Logan looked down, fiddling with his tie.
"I know."
