Surprise Guest (Loceit and past Demus)

I've had this idea for ages. Sorry if it sucks.

Janus was laughing at a joke Patton had made when he saw something out of the corner of his eye. It was a familiar figure standing in the half-shadows, his hands shoved in his pockets.

"Janus? Are you alright?" Logan asked, a little worried about his new husband.

"Um, yeah." Janus smiled quickly. "I, um, I just... Excuse me for a sec." Janus turned away from the group and went over to the figure standing in the shadows.

"Remus?"

The man smiled. "Hi Jan."

"What are you doing here?"

"Roman invited me. He said that it wouldn't be the same without the whole group here." Remus kept the half-smile on his face, pretending that his eyes weren't full of pain.

"Remus, it's great to see you but-"

"Jan, I'm sorry." Remus cut in. "I'm sorry for how I treated you and how badly we ended and I'm just," Remus raised his arms half-heartedly, "sorry for everything."

"Remus, it's alright." Remus looked up, surprised. Janus let out a quiet laugh. "I forgave you ages ago. It may not seem like it but I'm not one to hold grudges."

Remus smiled happily but as if he almost didn't believe it.

"So, why are you here? Not that I mind or anything."

"I just wanted to come to say sorry." Remus smiled the strange half-smile again. "And I've said that so I won't intrude anymore. I can't imagine you'd want to see an ex on your wedding day. I know I sure as Hell wouldn't." Remus laughed slightly, the sound full more of hurt than humour.

"Remus, you're my oldest friend. You can stay for as long as you want."

Remus smiled a little again, not moving from where he was stood. He pointed at Logan. "Is he your new boy toy?"

Janus glared at Remus before rolling his eyes. "No, he's my husband."

Remus shrugged. "Same difference."

Janus laughed slightly. "Yeah, I guess. He's who I'm going to be spending the rest of my life with."

Remus nodded, smiling slightly. "I'm happy for you, Jan. You deserve way more than what I could ever give you and he'll give you that."

Janus smiled slightly. "Remus, you don't need to be so hard on yourself. It wasn't your fault."

"That's the thing, though. It was. I know that now." Remus laughed slightly, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "I could see that you weren't happy with me. Yet I still kept trying. I kept you with me because I was selfish. Hell, I still am." Remus mumbled, looking Janus up and down quickly.

Janus rolled his eyes again, used to Remus being.... well, Remus. "Eyes up here, Romeo." He said, pointing at his face.

"I see that you're more confident with your face now."

Janus nodded, smiling slightly. "Yeah, I am. Logan's really helped me grow to love myself."

Remus nodded absently. "Look, Jan, I really am sorry. I didn't mean-"

"Salutations." Logan said, making both Remus and Janus jump. "Who's the new guy?"

"Oh! Logan, this is Remus and Remus, Logan. Remus is an... old friend of mine."

Logan stuck out his hand. "Logan Brown. Pleasure to meet you."

Remus shook his hand tentatviely as if unsure of what to do. "Remus Winston. I think you know my brother."

"Unfortunately."

Remus laughed slightly, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly again. "Look, I don't want to keep you two from enjoying your wedding so-"

"Remus, I already told you that you can stay if you want."

"No, it's fine." Janus opened his mouth to protest. "Really, Jan. It's alright. But, um, if Nerdy Wolverine over here-"

"I can hear you, you know." Logan said, half playfully and half sternly.

"If he breaks your heart or gives you any trouble, I'll always be here for you."

"Always?" Janus asked, smiling slightly. Remus nodded.

"Always. And that's a promise." He said, a bitter-sweet feeling welling up inside him. "I am watching you, Logan Brown." He said, nodding at Logan before turning on his heel and leaving.

Remus sighed as he crunched across the grass of the empty park, tears pricking the corners of his eyes. Janus was happy so why wasn't Remus? Janus was with who he wanted to be with and Remus was foolish to think that Janus still might want him or still have some sort of feelings for him. Logan made Janus happy. Nothing about the situation justified Remus' want to bash Logan's brains in. Hearing faint sniffles, Remus looked up.

There was a boy that Remus vaguely remembered. He was wearing an over-sized black hoodie and was dragging a suitcase along behind him. He looked like he was going to pass out and was just letting tears stream freely down his cheeks. Remus suddenly connected a name to his distraught face.

"Virgil?" He asked, walking closer to the slight man who had stopped, scrubbing at his eyes like a little child. "I don't know if you remember me. I'm Remus. I'm Roman's brother."

"Yeah, I remember. What're you doing here? I thought by now you and Janus would-" He stopped when he saw a pained look cross Remus' face. "Did he end it?"

"Yeah. And not on good terms, either."

"Oh. I'm sorry, Remus."

"It's fine. Someone kick you out?"

"Yeah. My 'boyfriend' Daniel." Virgil smiled triumphantly. "But I got the bastard back. I broke up with him before he kicked me out."

"You, er, look like you need a place to stay."

"Oh God, yes."

"I, um, I've got a place." Remus smiled slightly, hope lighting up his eyes. "You can crash at mine for a while."

Virgil smiled. "Thanks."
