Singin' in the Rain (Prinxiety)

Two Prinxiety one shots in a row. Usually I try not to do this but there are no other ships that would work for this.

Roman's POV

"Um, excuse me?"

I look up from tying my tap shoes to see this small boy standing awkwardly in the doorway of the Drama Department.

"Sorry to bother you but do you know-"

"Oh, yeah. Techies are down the corridor." I say, going back to tying my tap shoes.

"I'm not a techie." He says in a small voice.

"You sure?" He nods. "Well you look like one." And he does. He's dressed head-to-toe in black and he even has black eyeshadow smudged under his eyes. His hair's black too, aside from the ends which are dyed a dark purple.

"I'm not a techie." He repeats, taking a script out of his black and purple backpack. "I'm Virgil. I play Cosmo Brown." He looks me up and down. "I take it you play Don Lockwood?"

"Well, yes."

Virgil looks down at his script and then at his watch. "Is this where we're meant to be? I've never done this before."

I look at my watch. "Yeah. I'm just early."

Virgil nods and then sits down on a block near the back of the room. He opens his script and I guess he starts running through his lines, I can see his mouth moving slightly.

A few minutes later, the Drama Students and teacher come in, all either singing or yelling to one another about which parts they got. The teacher (I think he's called Mr Picani) claps his hands and everyone falls silent.

"Heya Kiddos. I am Mr Picani and I will be your director for this show. I'm just going to take a quick register if that's okay. So, sit down."

We do. Some sit cross-legged on the floor, others perch themselves on stacks of chairs and some sit on the blocks at the back of the room like Virgil did.

"Thank you. Okay. Alison Green?"

"Here sir."

"Bea Copperfield?"

"Here sir."

"Billy Nolan?"

"Here sir."

"Coraline Jones?"

"Here sir."

"Davey Jacobs?"

"Here sir."

"Elizabeth Schyler?"

"Here sir."

"Henry Bowers?"

"Here sir."

"Jason Dean?"

"It's JD, sir. And yes, I'm here."

"Lavender Brown?"

"Here sir."

"Lydia Deetz?"

"Here sir."

"Roman Winston?"

That's me. "Here sir."

"Tracy Turnblad?"

"Here sir."

"Veronica Sawyer?"

"Here sir."

"And finally, Virgil Summers?"

No answer. Mr Picani tries again. "Virgil Summers?"

"I'm here sir." Virgil says in a small voice, lifting his hand slightly. Mr Picani nods, puts down the register and claps his hands again.

"Okay Kiddos. So, I need Cosmo Brown and Don Lockwood in the Dance Studio. You're going to start learning one of your dances. The rest of you, go and see Mr. Dagger in the Music Room. There, you should start to learn the first song. Good? Good. Let's go."

Third Person POV

After the rocky introduction, Roman and Virgil actually became quite close friends. Roman helped Virgil with his anxiety and Virgil helped Roman shrink his big head slightly. They were often seen in the corner of the playground, going over a song or a scene together.

"Alright Kiddos! I need Kathy Seldon, Don Lockwood and Cosmo Brown for this next song!" It had been a few weeks since the start of the school play and Roman was having the time of his life. Virgil, less so, it seemed. Yes, he always smiled and sometimes even laughed at Roman's jokes but he just seemed a little distant. Roman had just assumed that it was just Virgil being Virgil but something was bugging him about it.

"Alright Kiddos, we just need to run through 'Good Morning' really quickly, okay? Virgil, you're still a little off on some of the footwork, aren't you?"

Virgil nodded. "It's just some of the jumps and things." He mumbled. Mr Picani nodded.

"That's alright, we've got ages until opening night. And Elizabeth, you're still not quite reaching the last note. So, how about we run through it and the small scene afterwards?"

(Time skip to after the song)

Virgil's POV

"Hey, wait a second, we can't make this a musical." Roman said, already off-book.

"Why not?"

"Lena."

"Lena." We all repeated defeatedly.

"She can't sing, she can't dance and she can't act. A triple threat." I said, finally getting the line right. Elizabeth started giggling.

"What's so funny?"

"Nothing. I think I liked it better when the sound went out and she said 'Yes, yes, yes'." She giggled, shaking her head.

"No, no, no." I said in a high voice."

"Yes, yes yes."

"No, no, n- Wait a minute. Wait a minute, I am just about to be brilliant." I said, getting up and pulling Elizabeth up with me. "Kathy, I want you to sing."

"What?"

"Sing. Er, Good Mornin', good mornin'." Elizabeth started singing and I pulled her behind me and started mouthing the lyrics. "Watch my mouth."

Elizabeth kept singing. "Well, what d'you think?"

"Enchanting, what?" Roman asked.

"Don't you get it? Use Kathy's voice."

"That's brilliant." Elizabeth said, coming out from behind me. Roman sighed.

"No Kathy, I couldn't let you do that."

"Why?"

"You'd be throwing away your career."

"It has nothing to do with my career. It's just for this one picture. We need to save the Duelling Cavalier, save Lockwood and Lamont."

"I suppose." Roman paused, sighing again. "But, d'you really think it would get by?"

"Get by?" I repeated incredulously. "Of course it would. All you need to do is dance around Lena and teach her how to take a bow."

"Alright." Roman said, his spirits renewed. "We'll go to R. F and spring it on him in the morning."

"Don, you're a genius." Elizabeth said, going over to Roman and kissing him, just like the script said.

"Glad you thought of it." I muttered, faking bitterness and ignoring the spike of jealousy inside.

"Oh Cosmo." Elizabeth said, kissing me on the cheek. I did the falling-over thing like the script said and Mr Picani clapped his hands, getting our attention.

"That was great Kiddos."

I checked my watch.

"Mr Picani? I really need to get home."

"Oh, really? Okay Kiddo. See you next week."

"Bye Virge." Roman muttered softly as I walked past him. For once, I didn't reply.

As I was walking away from school, I heard footsteps behind me and someone grabbed my arm.

"Virge? Virge, what was that about?"

"What was what about?"

"You didn't say goodbye. You always say goodbye. What's wrong?"

Dammit. Of course Roman can tell when something's wrong. I attempted to shake my arm out of his grip.

"Nothing's wrong, Roman. I just forgot, that's all."

"You never forget, Virge. Why don't you tell me what's really wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong, Roman. Let me go."

"Virge?"

"Let go of me!"

"Virgil?"

"Let go of me, Princey."

"Virgil, tell me what's wrong."

I kissed him. I kissed Roman Winston and before he could do anything, before he could hate me, I pulled back and ran off.

Roman's POV

I waited for Virgil after school on Monday. He'd been avoiding me all day. Well, he wasn't going to be able to avoid me now. He entered the Drama Department (early, as usual) and when he saw me, his eyes went wide and his face paled slightly. I waved at him and he ignored me, walking towards the back of the room. I tried to catch his arm so I could talk to him but he shook me off and carried on walking.

"Virgil! Virgil, wait!"

Virgil sighed, stopped and turned around, waiting for me to catch up with him.

"Virgil, what was that? On Friday, I mean."

"It was me being jealous and then me losing control of my senses. If you want to ridicule me about it, fine. It was a mistake." He said, dead-pan.

"Virge, I was never going to ridicule you about it." I said softly. "I was actually wondering if you'd like to go out with me after rehearsal tomorrow." I said awkwardly. "Like on a date."

Virgil searched my eyes for any clue that I was lying before smiling slightly. "Thanks for not hating me, Princey." He said, his good humour and nicknames restored. "And yeah."

Third Person POV

Opening night had been a huge success and everyone was over the moon. Elizabeth was yelling at her younger sister, Peggy, through a phone while holding two bunches of flowers, one from her older sister and one from her boyfriend. Davey was being attacked by his little brother, Les, who had seen the show and had loved every second of it. Tracy was chatting with her best friend, Penny, who had come to see the show and had loved Tracy's character albeit it being a small one. But Roman only had eyes for Virgil.

Virgil was just standing in the middle of the chaos, grinning with his eyes closed, trying to pack all of what had happened tonight into his memory. Roman carefully made his way around the small groups of people and put his arm around Virgil's shoulders, startling Virgil.

Virgil opened his grey eyes and looked into Roman's green ones, still grinning. Roman leaned down and kissed Virgil. He didn't care if people were watching, he didn't care that the school still thought he was straight, the only thing he cared about was the small boy who was kissing him back. Roman broke away, his eyes shining.

"Out of all the kisses in this show." He said, hugging Virgil tightly. "That was the best one."
