Virgil eyes fluttered open as the sound of the basement door creaked open, he huffed slightly with a ragged breath, shaking as he sat up.
"Oh," The monster Virgil knew purred. "Look at you, all sat up and ready for whatever I give you next! How fun" They snarled. "What should we do today?" They asked stepping forward towards Virgil. He flinched away slightly, his body and mind too weak to process the danger the other posed. Virgil sighed as they steeped right up to them, putting a knife to his neck. "Your being so quiet, should we make it so you have a reason?" Virgil whined lightly, shaking as a knife was pressed to his throat. He smiled lightly, hoping that the monster would slit his throat and let him bleed out. He rested his head on their hand, pressing his throat into the knife a little more. He smiled, he smiled because he hoped it could kill him.
"Hm..." they hummed. "It's no fun when they stop fighting back" they shifted slightly, the knife cutting into Virgil's skin. Virgil giggled with hope, looking to them with a slight nod in hopes they would take the hint.
"Hello?" A knock from the front door rang through the empty room. They sighed, getting up and wiping any blood away. They left and Virgil looked out the tiny window, praying to any and all gods that he could be spared. He giggled as blood dripped down his neck, the warmth combating his freezing skin. He smiled again as the door opened and heavy footsteps echoed around him. He looked up seeing police, and laughed. He knew they weren't real, just another hallucination.
"Are you Virgil?" Virgil giggled in delirium, deciding to see how far this hallucination could go. He nodded. "I'm here to get you home," the man turned away when he noticed Virgil bleeding. "I need a stretcher!" He yelled up the stairs, quickly going over to Virgil to untie him. When the person touched him, he flinched in shock, it wasn't a hallucination? Virgil laughed loudly, falling to his side with tears of hope. He glanced out the window once more, thanking the gods before promptly passing out.
