When the 'Dark Sides' were introduced, they were to bad guys and everyone hated them.
Virgil was Anxiety, there to make people overly nervous about things there to argue and hate everything. And at first everyone did hate him, but soon there was a change in him, showing that he wasn't anything like how he came across. Roman, though he bantered, found Virgil to be charming. And Virgil vice versa.
It was clear to everyone watching Roman and Virgil has a thing for each other.
Deceit was... exactly the title, he was deceit, there to make Thomas lie, it would seem he was the bad guy but, he too actually helped and the others saw more of this. Yes, Deceit impersonated Patton, and he felt guilty, because the more he was around them, the more he fell in love with him and Patton vice versa.
Now Remus was The Duke or Intrusive Thoughts, making it more difficult for people to like him. However, it was all thanks to Logan. Yes, Roman liked him but Logan liked him differently then Roman, he appreciated what Remus did and because of that Remus began to change, and Thomas incorporated some of Remus dark ideas into dark storylines.
And now the six were in relationships. How that happened, nobody knows, if just did! And they were very happy.
Roman, on this particular day, offered a relaxation day. Not just for the sides but for Thomas as well and the way to do this was in Imagination, Remus and Roman loved the Imagination, it was their domain. However, the two did and still do live on opposite sides of the Imagination.
Roman controlled Dream Land and Remus controlled Nightmare Land. Now, because Remus, Virgil and Deceit were bad guys they had a lot of bad friends and they just cut ties with them immediately. The darks wouldn't lie, they were nervous but didn't let it show. Instead they went with the lights and Thomas and dealt with it.
They were by the river side and Roman and Patton were splashing each other, Logan was reading a book and Thomas was sunbathing.
Remus, Deceit and Virgil were on high alert and tense.
Remus' head shot up, looking to the left, there in the bushes was a creature he liked to call and Deabbit, a demon rabbit, one that shape shifted from white and fluffy to red and sharp.
The Duke wandered over to it and knelt, he whispered, "ok what are you doing here?"
Immediately it's fangs grew and became red, "you are with the enemy. Agatha was right, non of you are trust worthy."
"You're listing to the Dragon Witch instead of me?" Remus snarled, yes he was the one who made the Dragon Witch a reality to fight Roman and right now, he was really regretting it.
"So, now you want to rule?"
Remus stayed silent, yes it's true he hadn't been here for months and he hadn't ruled at all and now he realised where this was going.
"Agatha wants me to tell you, to capture them or else, Thomas is dead."
The Deabbit left as the Duke walked over to his fellow darks.
"What's up?" Virgil asked, looking from Roman.
"Agatha's taken control and she wants us to lure them in."
"Well that's hilarious if she thinks-"
"We have to or she'll kill Thomas."
Deceit frowned, "is there a way to buy us some time to figure out a way to protect Thomas?"
"Yes..." Remus sighed, "but it requires going through with her plan then betraying her."
Virgil nodded, "ok if that's what we have to do then we'll do it."
Patton was making flower crown and Logan was reading while Roman was simply relaxing.
Remus watched them sadly as Deceits eye glowed a bright neon yellow as he summoned a couple of snakes, attacking the three, biting them and knocking them out.
Virgil slowly walked over and picked up Roman guiltily as Remus lifted Logan and frown. Deceit couldn't even bring himself near Patton, feeling both but disgust to himself.
Virgil saw and gave him Roman and picked up the father figure as Remus carefully lifted Thomas as well.
The three said nothing and walked off.
Remus looked up from a book that he was reading while Agatha was praising them, he had found the Flower of Protection and he knew to save Thomas he had to turn the flower into tea for him to drink.
"Guys. I've found it..."
"We need to run and get it then." Virgil said.
Deceit looked over, "it's in the woods? In no specific area?"
"It exists that's all th-"
"What do you think your doing?"
The three looked up and stared at the sharp spears in front of their faces, held by guards all in black.
"We're interested in flowers and-"
The guard snatched the book away and stared, "I think you're trying to save them."
The three back up as guards closed in on them.
"What do we do?" Deceit asked.
"Run!" Virgil shouted, as the ducked the incoming weapons and ran out the dark palace.
Thomas woke up groaning, rubbing his arm, seeing two snake bite marks.
He looked around and noticed he was in a cell, but he wasn't alone because he heard groaning from next to him.
"Roman?" He asked recognising the voice.
Roman looked up, "what happened?"
"Bitten by a snake I believe." Another voice replied, clearly Logan.
There was a whimper, indicating Patton was here, "by who?"
There was a dark laugh from the shadows and that's when Roman saw his old enemy, the Dragon Witch.
She was large, with razor sharp claws stained brown and red, with sharp fangs and beady eyes, one eye missing from long battles and a pointed hat on her head.
"By you're oh so loving boyfriends." She hissed.
Roman glared, "no! You don't know what you're talking about!"
Logan frowned slightly, seeing that there was no signs of lying, his shoulders dropped. He had thought the 'Dark Sides' had turned good. And Virgil of all!
"Prove if you lair!" Patton shouted.
Agatha smirked, swirling her hands showing the three dark sides in the forest.
Virgil, Deceit and Remus were running, pushing trees and twigs out of the way and looking around for the flower.
"We've gone against our good host, the highest act of treason!" Remus cried.
"But we had good intentions, we did it for a reason!" Deceit reasoned.
Virgil thought of the Dragon Witch, knowing she would know they betrayed them, "she'll kill us if we're lucky, she'll torture us if not!"
"What made us think that we could get away with such a plot?" Asked Remus.
"It's not too late to bring it back, perhaps we'll be forgiven." Remus sang, looking back where they came from.
"But if our crime can help improve the mind we all must live in..." Deceit sighed.
"Are we not bound by duty to the people of this shared host?" Remus finished.
"How does the golden rule apply in such a situation?" Asked Deceit.
"As a citizen, I think I would be grateful for the aid!" Remus answered, but Deceit cut him off.
"But if I were the new Queen, I should hate to be betrayed!"
"Whichever road we take we'll be incurring someones wrath!" Remus cried, "'til now we've always traveled on the straight and narrow path!"
"Temptation may have beckoned but we always have resisted!" Virgil frowned, "but which way do we turn when the roads become so..." He looked down, "so..."
"Twisted?" Asked a dark, creepy voice. There was a male resembling that of a sea witch like the one from The Little Mermaid.
Thomas' eyes were glowing, this whole time as Roman, Patton and Logan has been trying to escape, Thomas had been focusing on his old creations and having started as soon as Agatha walked out.
"Who are you?" Virgil asked.
"You seem familiar..." Deceit frowned.
"I'm a fellow traveller down a twisted path."
Remus clicked his fingers, "you're from Thomas own characters."
"You think you know me," he glared circling the three, "as others think they know you. But there are two sides to every story."
"I used to be the ruler of the ocean! I was benevolent and always kept my word! But my sister held the antiquated notion, that gay brothers should be seen and never heard." He sang, frowning as a tear fell down his cheek.
"So he, dethroned me," he held up one hand, "then disowned me," he pointed outwards, "and on top of that rezoned me!" He made a square, "to the outskirts of the kingdom in a cave! Took my scepter and my crown, though I tried to take him down, the truth and I now share a watery grave!" He wailed.
"The story lingers on," he sighed, "but the version that is drawn is twisted." He stalked up to Remus, making him back up.
"A pain I know all too well." A lion said with a scar down his face, an inspirations clearly from Disney.
"The land had never seen a more progressive king than me!" He sang, jumping over, "both lion and hyena lived in perfect harmony!" He sang circling them.
"I brought an end to what had been a senseless age old feud, I was prepared for anything, except for what ensued! My brother ate my heirs, my precious cubs, and stole my throne!" He sang in distress, "returned the segregation and the hateful ways we'd known, though I'd advocate for unity I always was denounced! So when I saw an opportunity to right the wrong, I pounced!" He jumped at them, making them yelp and fall.
The lion stalked up to Deceit.
"The pride came before my fall, in a fate that one might call, well, twisted!" He glared, "they weren't ready for my ideas."
The sea witch sighed, "they didn't hate you because of your ideas. They hated you because of that evil looking scar on your face." He turned to the three cowering sides, "fortune favours the beautiful."
"Au contraire!" Shouted a voice, as a man who looked like Roman jumped into view, "my only crime, was love..." Virgil realised this was based off of Gaston.
"In town there was only he who was as beautiful as me, on the inside." He looked down, "but then, tragedy struck! He was taken hostage in a castle filled with demonic furniture, so! I did what anyone would do and I organized a rescue mission!" He frowned, "but how was I to know that he had fallen in love with..." he sneered, "his captor!"
He shrugged his shoulders, "to me that doesn't seem... entirely healthy, especially since he's a wolf-bear-thing? A buffalo monster... with a cape!"
"But the heart wants what it wants and sometimes what it wants is twisted!" He looked at Virgil who felt genuinely bad for this guy.
"Twisted, twisted, twisted, twisted-" They sang, as they circled the three, who was now backed up against each other.
"I only wished to reclaim what was mine!"
"I only wished for equal rights for all!"
"I only wished to save him!"
A girl with horns and green skin walked in, "I only wished to be invited to the party!"
"I only wished to improve relations between the races!"
"I only wished to teach the boy responsibility!" A girl sang, holding up her hooked hand.
"I only wished to give the people a voice!" Cried the sea witch as the 'twisted' was chanted around them.
"So he wouldn't end up like me!"
"I only wished to love him!"
"To help the miserable, lonely, and depressed!"
"To be included!"
"To live in harmony!"
"For once!"
"I never knew my father!"
Their voice began to overlap each other, "I only wished for justice! I only wished for love! I only wished for freedom! I only wished for peace!"
"I only wished-"
"I only wished-"
"I only wished-"
"I only wished-"
"I only wished to have a coat made out of puppies!" Cried a man with a stylish coat and messed up hair.
The comment made everyone scream in disgust.
"Why would you do that?!" Cried Deceit.
"What's wrong with you?!" Shouted Virgil.
Remus grinned, "what type?"
"You're not helping!" The lion shouted and looked at the group, "disregard that."
"It's an unfortunate situation but, you do have a choice..." The sea witch said and walked off.
Virgil glanced up, stay on the good side with their boyfriends forever and get that flower and loose their heads? Or keep their heads and betray them?
"What remains of a side, when that side is dead and gone? Only memories and stories of his deeds will linger on." Remus sang.
"But if a man's accomplishments aren't in the tale they tell... Are the deeds that go unheralded his legacy as well?" Deceit frowned.
"If a war breaks out tomorrow, we'll all have hell to pay." Virgil sang, "why protect our reputation? We're dead men either way."
"How will they tell my story?" Asked Deceit.
"How will they tell my tale?" Remus sang.
Virgil fell to the floor, "will anybody even care?"
The Dragon Witch had appeared and laughed, "aw how cute!"
Romans heart broke a bit, he would care.
"The question then is whether 'tis nobler in the mind to be well liked but ineffectual-" Sang Remus.
"Or moral but maligned?" Deceit asked, Virgil glances to his side and stared. That was a flower and not just any flower, the flower.
He dug it up and looked up, directly at the portal the lights and the witch were watching through, not that he could see it, but he felt it.
"We'll never be a hero!" Virgil sang, getting up, "all the citizens adore!" He places his hands on his friends shoulders, "but if we hide to save our life, what has our life been for? What has our life been for?"
The two saw the flower and looked up directly at the portal too.
"The road ahead may twist," sang Deceit, walking forward, his eye glowing.
"But I will never swerve!" Sang Virgil, his eyeshadow cascading down his face.
"I'll give them all the unsung anti-hero they deserve!" Remus sang, summoning his mace and throwing it over his shoulder and gripping the handle.
"We've nothing left to lose, so the only path to choose is twisted!" They sang together reaching a cliff to over look the castle and village.
"Let then twist my words." Sang Deceit.
"Let the people scorn me." Remus glared.
"Who cares if no one will ever mourn me?" Cried Virgil.
"Let them bury the side of the story they'll never learn!" They sang, floating up, as Deceit summoned snakes, Remus summoned skeleton guards and Virgil black, skeletal figures.
"Let the truth be twisted." Deceit sang.
"Let my life be twisted." Remus sang.
"I'll be twisted." Virgil sang.
"It's my turn!" They sang as their army cried out behind them.
The Dragon Witch stared in fear as the lights and the host smiled in triumph behind her.
Suddenly a guard ran in, "my Queen! Remus, Deceit and Virgil are-"
"I know you idiots! Go out and get them!"
The citizens screamed and ran, as the guards for the witch attacked the former dark sides.
A lady cowered and covered her child as a guard raised his spear, but he screamed.
The lady looked up, only to see a snake bite his neck and die, then she heard a commanding voice.
"Dee! You stay here and spread out your snakes to keep an eye out!" It was Remus, The Duke!
"On it!" And that was Deceit! He floated up, his face now practically all scales and his eye following a bright neon yellow, his snakes slithered outward, to protect the civilians and attack the enemy.
Remus ran to the castle followed by Virgil.
Two large guards towered over them, about the size of two houses on top of each other.
"Virgil can you deal with the guards here and inside?"
"Of course I can." Virgil's eyeshadow now covered his cheeks completely, he raised his hands summoning purple fire and black, skeleton figure with large heads slumping over, attacking the guards.
The guards screamed and cowered in fear once touched by the creatures seeing their worst fears and nightmares, anxious about everything.
Remus and Virgil ran inside.
Anxiety slipped Remus the flower and drifted off to either scare guards or set them on fire.
Remus went down stairs with everyone else being dealt with and kicked open the dungeon door.
"Agatha!"
The witch helped and turned around, seeing Remus, his purple and black eyeshadow darker then usual, his black pants back instead of the puffy duke pants, a puke green mist swirling at his finger tips and his mace thrown over his shoulder a bloody.
"Remus!" Logan shouted, gripping the bars happily.
Remus looked over and smiled in relief and ran to the cell, the two kissed in between the bars.
"She hasn't hurt you, had she?"
"No, she hasn't. Are you ok?"
"I'm fine, Lo." Remus said caressing his cheek and slipping his boyfriend the flower and glancing to Thomas, "I'm fine."
Remus pulled away and held up his mace, "you must have known the minute we helped you we'd betray you."
"I won't lie, I knew. But I'll kill you, Deceit and Virgil! Then the lights and then Thomas! I don't care if we all die! Non of you deserve to live!" Agatha laughed.
"Then I guess you should start killing me."
Agatha slashed at him with her claws, making him jump back and hit her across the face with his mace making her scream.
She opened her mouth a blew fire at him, he barely dodged, just getting his frills burnt.
He raised his hands and clenched his fingers, managing to take out her claws, making her scream in agony.
Remus slammed his mace on her now nailless hand, making her whip around and slash his chest with the spikes in her tail.
He gasped out, hitting the wall and bleeding from his chest.
"Remus!" Both Logan and Roman cried out in agony.
Agatha laughed, "you honestly thought that Remus, The Duke would win?! He's a bad guy, the bad guys never win!"
Remus smirked painfully, "too Starkid productions, the story of the Disney villains were merely twisted."
"And what are you going to do? You're alone, nobody for back up and-" Agatha's win turned sour as she was hit with purple fire, making her scream.
There stood Virgil. His jacket was ripped and had various cuts and bruises, but there he was, weak and his hands and knees shaking.
"Virgil!" Roman smiled.
Anxiety didn't look up in fear he'd loose his concentration.
Snakes found their way to Remus and wrapped up his chest with bandages and a few minutes later Deceit walked in, now owning a pair of fangs dripping with venom.
"Deceit!" Patton called out, getting a smile in return from the snake like side.
A trickle of blood trickled down Virgil's nose, luckily a yellow gloved hand on the shoulder by Deceit told him he could stop.
Anxiety fell to his knees immediately.
With both Remus and Virgil down, Deceit knew he had to try and end this.
He walked up to the now burned Dragon Witch.
"We didn't want this to happen Agatha, we were always good friends but... you went too far..." Deceit grabbed Remus' mace and raised it.
Agatha smirked and held her massive hand out, shooting a blue orb at Deceit, who was hit through the chest, making him freeze.
"Deceit?!" Patton asked.
The lying side whipped his head around wildly, surprising everyone it hasn't flew off his head as he whimpered, "Patton! Patton, please... don't leave me..."
"It'll last a few minutes..." Remus said standing up again, "here's the thing. You think we're the bad guys, you seem to forget we have just saved people and you have put them in danger."
"You're stalling... what are you stalling for?" She asked suddenly, her eyes narrowing.
Remus pointed his index finger just to the left of her head, "that."
She turned around and Virgil was flying at her with Romans katana, he smirked and said, "off with your head!"
Patton looked away, even Roman grimaced and Thomas shivered, Logan remained emotionless however and instead looked to Remus.
"Did you give Thomas that flower?" Remus asked, grabbing the keys and unlocking the cell.
Logan hugged Remus suddenly, making The Duke jump slightly, but hug back nonetheless.
Roman kissed Virgil gently, wiping the blood from his cheek as Virgil wrapped his arms around his neck.
Deceit was starting to calm down, allowing Patton to kneel down and take his hand, Deceit squeezed Patton's hand, allowing him to calm down.
"Guys... you kidnapped us then saved us?" Thomas asked uncertain of the former dark sides plan.
"It was either we all die or you live, we choose the path in which you live and we could have died." Virgil said to his host.
Remus looked to Roman, "which reminds me, I think we should unite our kingdoms."
"That would be perfect, we'd have a bigger army and-"
Virgil covered Romans' mouth, "let's not talk business after that."
"But-" Remus began but was cut off by a stern glance from Logan, "right... Never mind."
Deceit cuddled Patton, as Patton asked, "can we go home now?"
"Can you guys get back to the mind palace safely?" Thomas asked.
"Just open your eyes Thomas, it'll be ok now." Deceit said, and with that the host was gone.
"Now for us to go." Roman said, wrapping his arm around Virgil's waist, sinking down.
Logan and Remus held hands and followed.
Deceit nuzzled Patton's cheek and sunk down as well.
