Summary: Patton's three sons try to celebrate their dad's day. The key word is try.

Patton woke up to lovely sunbeams dancing across the room and warming his body, birds twittering amongst themselves outside, the horrid scent of burning toast and yelling- wait.
He flung off his blanket and rushed out of his room towards the kitchen, not even stopping to put on his glasses. That was probably a mistake, as when he stepped onto the tiled floor, he slipped. Patton braced himself for the impact and squeezed his eyes shut, but it never came.
"Um... Happy Father's Day?" Roman's usually booming voice was laced with embarrassment as he helped Patton up from his arms.
When the dad finally opened his eyes, it was to a concerned Virgil moving forwards to check on him and Logan holding out his glasses. He must have ran and gotten them during the whole commotion. Patton took them thankfully, and suddenly his three guilty sons were brought into focus.
He glanced around the kitchen and spotted far-too runny eggs with blackened toast on the side, an overflowing mug of coffee that was steadily dripping its contents onto the floor and an assortment of gifts on the table in the next room. As he took it all in, he felt himself tear up.
"Dad?! Why are you crying?" Virgil frowned. Then he glared at Roman. "You should've warned him that there was coffee on the floor!"
"Hey! You were the one who spilt it!" Roman retorted, crossing his arms. "It's your fault!"
"Well- if Logan hadn't filled it with boiling water, then I wouldn't have been worried about it being too hot and tripped over whatever dumb experiment he was working on this time!"
The two brothers turned to the eldest of the siblings. "Yeah, it was Logan!" Roman jabbed a finger into his chest.
Logan's protest was silenced by Patton raising a hand. "No, I'm not hurt or upset, it's just..." Without warning, he grabbed the three of them into a hug, heart bursting with happiness. "I can't believe you lot did this for me! I love it so much, thank you!"
Virgil pulled away first, coughing and rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "Well, you're our dad. Of course we'd do this. And... are you sure you don't hate it?" He peeked up through his bangs hopefully.
Patton nodded and released the rest of them. "I'm sure! Although, you three could sure do with some cooking lessons," he chuckled.
"I did suggest we go out somewhere fancy, but Logan's the only one who can drive and Virgil got this idea that it would be more meaningful if we made it ourselves into his head." Roman puffed out his chest and threw a smug look at his brothers.
Logan merely rolled his eyes while Virge stuck his tongue out (although Patton didn't miss the way his youngest almost raised the middle finger instead).
"I would've been happy with whatever. I didn't expect anything, so for you to work together for this..." His eyes were glistening again. Seeing his children about to argue with him, he rushed to explain. "I mean, I adopted you all not even a year ago, and for the longest time, I was scared that I was doing a bad job at parenting and-"
He was cut off by Virgil shooting forward and wrapping his arms around him. When he broke away, Roman took his place and lifted up his father, spinning him around. Logan didn't hug him, but he watched with a certain fondness, and Patton understood what was meant regardless.
"Now, what's for breakfast?"
The brothers' faces paled as Patton took the plate of... something they had tried to put together for him and brought it into the dining room.
Virgil moved to snatch it off him, but Patton only held it above his head out of reach and continued. Logan was listing off possible dangerous outcomes of eating their concoction in an attempt to sway him, and Roman was performing a dramatic enactment of what would be Patton's death if he dared to take a bite. Tuning them out, Patton ate a forkful.
His eyes watered for a different reason, but he swallowed and smiled anyway.
He loved his family, awful cooks and all.
