Never again

Logan sighed weakly as the blindfold was ripped away, squinting as he adjusted to the light and then continuing in order to better see the faces in front of him.

"Ah, Remus, Deceit. I'd say it's a pleasure to meet you but you've got me tied to a chair in a dark room and have had me here for at least thirty minutes." He leaned his head to the side, rubbing against his shoulder in an attempt to scratch the building itch.

"What exactly is it that you want this time?" He asked. The snake-like side pushed a pair of spectacles on his face with a malicious smirk.

"You're not a fake ransom. Remus and I aren't aiming to kidnap the others when they come to rescue you, we won't be getting control of Thomas in the process," Deceit hissed jovially

"You're not going to get anywhere... they won't come for me."
"Oh poor naïve little Logan, thinks his friends are too smart to come for him... you know you're the leader for a reason, nerdy wolverine."
"I'm not... and they don't care. I'm not a fool enough to not see it. I'm not naïve or emotionally challenged, and they are idiots. They won't come for me, just you wait and see."

The dark sides had dismissed the intellectual out of hand, leaving him locked in the room but not leaving him tied down, he had complained of rope burn on his wrists. It had faded now though, a full two weeks into his captivity with them.

"They're taking an awful long time, Double D, do you think we should check on them?"
"Maybe... the nerd might have a good estimation of his friends' deduction abilities."

The two leaned around the corner, seeing the others sat around in silence. Virgil sat up, leaning down to Patton and whispering something neither could hear. Patton giggled.

"Okay, okay, it's been long enough, we can crack out that wine over dinner tonight. I think it'd go well with a seafood Alfredo, yeah?"
"Sounds great. I'm so glad the bookish virgin isn't here to tell us not to... why did we get that wine again?"
"Because Doctor Loser decided to duck out!" Roman cheered, pulling Virgil up to dance.

The three sides sat down to dinner, laughing and joking and telling stories about things Logan did that annoyed them; things that sounded like Logan cared about them.

"Oh my god, remember that time he uploaded all of our computers to a cloud system? I bet he had the passwords and used them to perv on us!"
"And when he told me to exercise because I hadn't in a while? Way to insult me, even though he's a hypocrite. Sits at his desk all day, then tells me to get off my butt?"
"Such a downer! Always nagging me about fighting beasts I couldn't handle! Unsubtly calling me weak and pretending to be worried while he poured disinfectant everywhere."

Remus had heard enough. He tugged on Deceit's sleeve. "Let's go... I don't want to be near them," He whispered, tears in his eyes.

"I hope he went to join your crybaby brother and two-face!" Virgil cheered drunkenly, raising his third full glass of wine and polishing half of it off in one go. "Dumbass bitch! Always strutting around like he owns the place and nitpicking."

"So... they're enjoying themselves?" Logan asked, eyes tired and worn. Remus saw how he carried himself for the first time; one foot slightly further back, prepared to step down, but he was tired. This side, who was so fatherly and worrisome over his peers that he knew each one like the back of his bony hand.

Bony, that was something else Remus noticed. He'd gained weight with them, but he was still lanky, tall in height but almost skeletal, not at all much fat on him. His cheekbones were sharp enough to cut steel and his smile seemed to never surpass them up to those knowing eyes.

"They... they're worried sick."
"Leave the lying to Deceit. I know them well, Remus, they're glad to be rid of me. They've had those bottles of wine clumped together almost a decade now. I never let any alcohol in the house before we turned 21, so they snagged it the moment they could." Logan smiled weakly, staring down at his wizened hands with furrowed brows, "I wonder how long it'll take, for them to realise how much they need me, if they ever do."

Remus sobbed, hugging Logan and burying his face in the taller's shoulder. Logan simply smiled, hugging back. He kissed Remus's forehead and laid his head atop the intrusive side. Deceit entered, glass of wine in hand.

"You're going back there again. You stay here, with us, start over?"
"I'd like that."
"To Logan, the new dark side... and our friend..." Deceit raised his glass before taking a sip.

"I took the opportunity to grab as much of your stuff as I could, some of it might be bloody." Remus grinned shyly at his intellectual counterpart.
"That's fine, it'll wash out."

"Disney?" Deceit offered to Logan, gesturing to the tv. He shook his head, having had more than his fill of the movies.

"How about Sherlock? Murder, mystery and action! Our favourite things!"
"As well as a homoerotic subtext and several rather emotionally intense scenes focused entirely on just how not heterosexual John really is."
"Ah, good old queerbait."

The tv was hushed now, Logan had turned it down before he too dozed off, Remus and Deceit laying against his chest and snoring softly over the sound of a space documentary he'd put on after Remus fell asleep.

So maybe he was born a light side, but this family was just as nice. He smiled warmly in his sleep, only having cared for a fleeting moment about the others and the monumental hangovers they would have the next morning.

It wasn't his job to look after anyone; for now, he could be looked after, just a little bit.
