Dresses and Arguments (Prinxiety/Analogical)
(Patton's P.O.V.)
"Guys! We should play truth or dare!" I run into the living room, where my three housemates and classmates sit doing their own thing. However, when I come rushing in (like I do) they immediately turn my way.
Virgil gets up and starts walking out of the room, but I quickly run over and grab his arm.
"Nooo! Don't run away! Please, just two rounds and then we can be done." I say, begging him. Virgil huffs, frowning and looking at me with a cold hard stare. "Please?" I ask, throwing him the pout and puppy dog eyes I know he's a sucker for. And sure enough, he cracks, groaning and nodding as he goes back over to the couch and sits down.
I squeal, rushing over and looking at Roman and Logan hopefully. Both just shrug, Lo putting down his book and Roman pointing a finger at me.
"Just as long as you promise this won't take long. I still have to make sure my fashion project is finished." He states and I nod, happily sitting on the floor. Normally, as a college student, I wouldn't suggest such a game but it is obvious that there are some crushes going on in this household and I am determined to get a cute pairing here.
"Okay, okay, so we'll just go in a circle! I'll start." I say, looking between Logan sitting on the couch, Roman sitting in the armchair, and Virgil sitting on the floor next to me. "Roman, truth or dare?" I ask finally, and he seems ecstatic that I picked him first.
"Dare, I'm no wimp." He says and I pout, not easily able to come up with dares. Or at least, not good ones.
"Ooh! I dare you not to sing for the rest of the day!" I finally say, earning a very dramatic gasp. Logan stifles a laugh, Virgil starts praising me, and Roman starts protesting to an almost scary level. Finally after about two minutes everyone is calm and Roman pouts but agrees to the dare, the game continuing. Virgil turns to Logan and shrugs.
"Truth or dare, Logan?" He asks, seeming pretty bored. Logan seems to compare the two choices, possibly trying to decide which one would be less damaging, when he picks one of the two.
"Truth." He states, and Virgil sighs, seeming to be in the same boat I was with the dare for Roman.
"Uh, what was the most inaccurate mistake you've made?" I gasp a bit, smirking as I await Logan's response. Logan, being the smartest out of all of us, hates admitting when he's wrong so asking about a mistake is one of the most damaging questions. However, to my surprise, he starts speaking.
"Well, emotionally I've made many, but academically I haven't made many at all. The most inaccurate mistake I've made academically must have been when I was arguing with my fourth grade English teacher and used the word infinitesimal while trying to say there was 'a lot of things to talk about.'" I stare at the smarter boy with wide eyes, shocked that he spoke so openly about the fact that he was wrong. Maybe it's because Virgil asked, and not someone else. Virgil nods, content with the answer, and it's Roman's turn.
"Alright, Virgil! Truth or dare?" He asks, way more enthusiastic than he was when we started. Virge doesn't even think twice, immediately responding with "truth". Roman soon gets a malicious smirk and looks at Virgil with a very curious look in his eye. "Do you have a crush on someone?" He asks, making Virgil blush and scoff.
"That's such a stereotypical question to ask." He says, and I shrug, poking his arm.
"Doesn't matter! It's what he asked!" I state, wanting to hear his answer. He huffs and nods, blushing even more as I gasp and start poking him repeatedly. "Who?" I question, begging for an answer. However, Virgil just scoots out of my reach and shakes his head.
"That wasn't part of the question, therefore I am not obligated to answer. Moving on." He speaks harshly, obviously done with the conversation even though it had barely started. It now being Logan's turn he ponders which of us to ask before noticing that I have yet to be asked anything.
"Patton, truth or dare?" He asks and I smile, looking up confidently.
"Truth!" Is my answer, and Logan seems to be at a loss. Until...
"Have you ever had an affair?" My eyes widen, my cheeks redden, and I start choking on air at the question.
"Why the hell would you ask him that, Logan?" I hear Roman ask, though I can hear the curiosity in his voice.
"Well, he is undoubtedly the most innocent-seeming out of all of us." Logan states, and it is true. I generally seem pretty innocent. "So, the answer?" Logan pressures, and I put my head in my hands, cheeks, neck, and ears all burning a bright red.
I nod a bit and mumble, "Junior year." Causing Roman to immediately start trying to guess who it was. I won't be telling them that though, in fact I'll be getting my revenge on Logan for that darn question. How though... That's right! My plan! I turn to Virgil, having composed myself, and smirk at him.
"Truth or dare, Virge?" I ask and he exhales sharply.
"Dare." He says, knowing the question that would be asked if he picked truth. I smirk, having known that he would pick dare and having picked out the perfect one.
"I dare you to wear a dress." His eyes widen, looking at me as if I had grown another head.
"Excuse me, what?" He seems baffled, unbelieving that I just dared him to do such a thing. I cross my arms, shrugging.
"You heard me." I state and he shakes his head slowly, putting a hand to his head as he closes his eyes. Roman gasps suddenly and starts frantically pointing at Virgil.
"You can wear that dress I made for that assignment a few weeks ago! Remember? The black one with spaghetti straps and buckles and stuff? You said you'd wear that if you were a girl!" He says and I gasp as well, agreeing immediately. I notice Logan being surprisingly quiet. Virgil just groans, looking up at Roman with a glare that rivals Satan.
"I said if I was a girl, idiot, not in general." He hisses, but gets up and starts walking towards the hallway anyways. "Where is it?" He mumbles, Roman quickly telling him that it's in his studio.
Virgil mumbles incoherent words (probably swears) the entire way, until the door closes and the house is left in silence. Roman, Logan, and I don't talk as we wait for Virgil to show up again in a brand new outfit.
To be honest, I do feel sorta bad daring Virgil to do this since I know he'll be uncomfortable, but I not only want to get revenge on Logan and Roman, I also want to get some crushes resolved and this is the easiest way to do so. I hear someone clear their throat and immediately the three of us look to the hallway. And there, in all his glory and shyness, stands Virgil, looking at the ground in a very self-conscious and ashamed manner.
"So, here ya go." He says, fidgeting and holding his hands in front of him. He kept his hoodie on, the article of clothing pushed down to his elbows to expose his shoulders and upper arm. Honestly, he looks great. Tall black boots and a dress really suits him, not that I'd ever tell him that.
I glance over at Roman and Logan to see both of them staring at Virge with wide eyes and red faces, Roman looking like he's trying to say something but failing miserably. Virgil notices the silence and looks conflicted as to whether he should be worried or flattered.
"How long do I need to keep this on, Patton?" He asks instead, glancing at me but overall keeping his gaze on the two gawking at him.
"'Till the end of the game." I smile innocently although I know this whole plan of mine isn't. I should really remind these guys that I'm not as nice as I seem to be more often, I think they forget due to my constant kindness. Aw well, just means more practical jokes and pranks on my part. Virgil sighs but doesn't argue, instead walking over to the couch and sitting down (seeing as he's now wearing a dress and doesn't want to sit on the floor).
"Roman, truth or dare?" He smirks, and I know he's got some sort of plan thought up. Roman stutters, trying to recollect his thought I'm guessing, before stammering a very quiet "truth". Virgil's smirk widens and he straightens up in his seat, quite happy with this turn of events.
"Who do you have a crush on?" He asks, expecting a flustered response like his. However, Roman doesn't hesitate to say anything, still in his stupor from seeing Virgil in his current outfit.
"You." He says, and I gasp quietly, my hand flying to my mouth to keep quiet. I stand up slowly and walk over towards the corner of the room, standing there so I can just watch the events about to occur. Virgil's face goes bright red, obviously not expecting that response and definitely not expecting Ro to be so blunt. He starts stuttering, but Logan seems to finally snap back to reality, now glaring daggers at Roman.
"Wait." He says, and all eyes are now on him. Logan stands, pointing an accusing finger at the prince-like boy. "You have a crush on Virgil?" He asks, although we all just heard the boys confession. Roman's cheeks burn red and he nods, still seated. Logan scoffs and shakes his head. "No, that's not okay because I have a crush on Virgil." He says then, causing Roman to glare at him in return and stand.
Virgil stands as well, stammering and trying to calm down any fight that may start in a second. He quickly pulls his hoodie up over his shoulders, probably searching for some sort of comfort as his two friends and potential lovers start fighting.
"I don't think you have a right to say what is 'okay' and 'not okay', nerd." Roman huffs, a sharp edge to his tone. Virgil flinches a bit at the tone, but Logan just looks even more furious.
"Oh, because I will leave that decision to the overly dramatic thespian that can't make a rational decision to save his life?" He asks, and my eyes widen at the quite harsh insult. Roman gasps, putting a hand to his chest as he starts advancing on Logan.
"Well at least I know a thing or two about romance, unlike you. You barely even have feelings, I wouldn't be shocked if you were lying about this just to rile me up." He hisses, causing Logan to step closer to him as well. At this point both Virgil and I are ready to drag the two away from each other if need be. He looks at me and nods slightly, me nodding back as we form a silent union.
"Listen, guys, maybe we should just sit down and talk about this nicely." I suggest, stepping closer slowly and quietly. I feel like I'm dealing with two angry lions, and I have to try to get them back to their cages without getting eaten.
Logan and Roman both turn to me with fire in their eyes and shout a "no". Due to the quick change of hatred towards me, I can't help the wide eyes and quickly forming tears. Did I really upset them that much? I notice though that this seems to just tick off Virgil, his face glowing bright red with rage as he steps in between Roman and Logan, pushing them away from each other.
"That's enough, you two absolute fucking idiots." He says, and I'm honestly too shocked and upset to yell at him for language. At this, Lo and Ro seem to snap out of their stupor, both looking ashamed. "You dumbasses couldn't step down for one second to see that not only did you start having this conversation without the actual person of interest, but you upset Patton." The two look over at me with wide, unbelieving eyes, immediately filling with guilt as they see my state. They start muttering apologies to me, in which I just nod.
"I'm not the only one you should apologize too." I mutter and the two nod, turning to each other.
"What I said was out of line, and I apologize." Logan says, Roman nodding in agreement.
"I forgive you, nerd. I'm sorry as well for what I said, I know you have feelings like the rest of us." He states, and the two nod as a truce for now. And then finally, after a moment of silence, they turn to Virgil. "And, Virgil, we're sorry for getting so offensive so quickly." Roman speaks first on behalf of both of them, Logan nodding rapidly.
"Yes, it was not my intention. It was just hearing that I suddenly had competition for your attention struck a sense of jealousy that... Well, you saw." He admits, looking towards the ground with bright red ears and an embarrassed frown. Virgil sighs and shakes his head, crossing his arms.
"I mean, whatever. It's kind of flattering, I guess. Just don't go doing it again." He says, the two nodding and agreeing without hesitation. Virgil continues however, having more to say. "And when it comes to your guys' apparent crushes on me... I need a hell of a lot more time to figure that out. This was certainly the most unexpected outcome." He chuckles and I shrug, smiling as I realize I'm the one to thank for all of this. Or, maybe not thank. I was the one to cause this at least, so I've got that going for me.
"Hey Virgil." I say and he looks at me, taking note of my smirk almost instantly. "Maybe you should wear dresses more often." This earned me a pillow in the face from every person in the room, but it was worth it.
