The Secret of Happiness
Point of View: Logan, Third Person
Timeline: Present Day
Logan slammed his head on his desk, mind spinning.
It was ASTOUNDING how much effort he was putting into answering this - what should be a relatively SIMPLE question. And even after hours, and hours of thinking and reading and writing and he STILL didn't have an answer for Thomas.
Thomas had posed the question to all of them - them being Patton, Roman, Virgil, and himself.
And even all these hours later, Logan STILL didn't have an answer for him.
Logan slowly lifted his head from the desk, slouching in his chair - frowning. He took off his glasses and rubbing his temples with a loud exhale of frustration. Why was this so - so hard?
What is the secret of happiness?
Why was such a simply phrased question driving him up the wall? It should be something easy - Thomas was relatively a happy person.
But what was the secret to it all?
It didn't matter how hard Logan tried, he never seemed to get close to even a decent answer. There wasn't an kind of guide or book or ANYTHING on what anyone could suggest to make some happy. What would make someone happy wouldn't make someone else happy. How could he possibly come up with a solution to make EVERYONE happy?
A loud knock came to the door - a knock that tapped in... in a rhythm...
Was... was that the knock from Frozen?
Definitely Patton.
Logan cleared his throat. "Come in," Logan said, putting his glasses back on and adjusting his necktie. "It's open."
Patton poked his head around the door, grinning wide. "Hiya Logan!" he giggled. "Are ya ready for tomorrow's video? It's gonna be so much fun!!" Patton giggled some more, but slowly drifted off when he recognized the logical trait's pained expression. "Lo?"
"I can't do it, Pat," Logan said, eyes glazing over. "I can't answer the question," he whispered.
"Oh, Logan," Patton giggled, walking over towards Logan. "You're COMPLETELY overthinking this. The answer is so simple," he giggled some more. Patton seemed more amused than anything else.
How could Pattonc have figured it out so easily?
"Impossible," Logan whispered, but his dark brown eyes stared hungrily at Patton, waiting desperately for the solution for the only question bouncing around in his head. He - He needed to know -
Patton let out another adorable little giggle, gently pulling Logan out of his black desk chair. "Dance with me," Patton said, grabbing Logan's hand and forcing the usually stoic side to his feet and in front of the bubbly side.
"Um, Patton you know I don't dance," Logan tried. "I can't."
"Everyone can dance," Patton countered with a bright smile, slipping his hand into Logan's - holding it tightly. "Just follow me!"
Logan didn't have much time to argue before Patton pulled Logan so close making both their cheeks heat up and the both of them started doing this odd sway in the middle of Logan's room. It wasn't so much as dancing as much as hugging and swaying in a circle.
But, as Logan expected, he was somehow STILL an absolute mess of awkward and clumsy limbs but Patton didn't seem to mind. As they continued, Logan started messing up less and less, not crushing Patton's poor toes, which surely took a beating - as did his own but they just laughed it off with laughing apologizes.
It wasn't so much as dancing, as much hugging and swaying together though. And... and it was nice, even without music. They fell into their own rhythm, gentle rocking back and forth and Logan could feel himself growing the more they danced.
"Patton?"
"Hmm?"
"I don't quite see what this has to do with the question," Logan admitted, sheepishly.
Patton merely smiled, shaking his a little as he tried - and failed - to hold back a tiny giggle. "I dunno... Are you sure you don't wanna try and figure it out?"
"Yes I'm very sure," Logan said, a bit rushed and Logan flushed pink once again at his own eagerness.
Patton paused for a moment, thinking and Logan tried his best to be patient as Patton tried to come with a way to word what he wanted to say.
"I've discovered," Patton started hesitantly. "The secret of happiness is learning how to glide," Patton said brightly, giggling as he started making the dance a bit more dramatic and lead the both of them around the room.
Logan stared at Patton, blinking in confusion.
Surely... surely that couldn't be... it....
Could it?
"I've discovered," Patton continued. "The secret of happiness is just enjoy the ride - don't let the journey be tainted by pride," he finished, booping Logan on the nose and Logan felt his face warm in embarrassment.
"And I've discovered," Patton said, swaying more purposely now, as if listening to some music that only he could hear. "The secret of happiness is not to mourn the past," Patton's cheeks went a little pinker than usual at that. "I've discovered - the secret of happiness is not to run too fast! You can still beat them by coming in last," Patton finished, smiling softly.
"I've discovered the secret of happiness is not to be afraid," Patton continued, voice growing momentarily more serious, somehow more earnest.
Logan couldn't help thinking back on when they'd started dating, how scared he'd been at the beginning. But Patton had walked him through it and slowly that fear... just finally disappeared. He wasn't afraid anymore.
Neither of them were.
"I've discovered, the secret of happiness is all illusions fade!" And Logan could tell just by the look in Patton's eyes that he was thinking of the dark traits. Virgil and Deceit.
Patton still felt really guilty about everything that had happened with Deceit but after all of us urging that there was nothing he could do, Patton found forgave himself. I'm only glad that it didn't get any worse than that.
"Don't fear the future, you'll just be delayed - cause the secret of happiness is... living in the now. Living in the time it takes to blink, I think," Patton admitted. "Is how, we're meant to be living."
"I've discovered the secret of happiness is following my will," Patton said, face twisting into a stubborn, determined face that looked so unlike him Logan couldn't help smiling. At his smile, Patton's face brightened - barely stiffing a little giggle.
Gosh, I love him so, so much.
"I've discovered, the secret of happiness is though we can run that hill - happiness comes when we learn to be still."
Our dancing had shifted into more so swaying until we simply came to a stop. Neither of us broke the silence at first, taking the moment to just hold each other close.
"The secret, the secret of happiness is... the secret of happiness is clear. The secret of happiness is near...."
"The secret of happiness..." Patton continued
"...is HERE," Patton finished, smiling as he gently tapped a finger against Logan's heart.
