What if Queen of Mean was not a song for Virgil?

Because it doesn't fit, he would be more of a Mal.

Or maybe Roman would be because Virgil wasn't there for the split, (hadn't developed yet?) also Roman is kinda the type to forget about how his actions effect others. And he's the one who is being "showed" by Remus.

Thomas or Roman or Virgil would be the Prince. Seeing as all of them are the ones Remus "lost." Virgil would again make the most sense, because in Remus' eyes, Patton and Roman "stole" Virgil away from them.

Patton would be "the devil on my shoulder where the angel used to be" as he's the one who called Remus a monster or a freak. In this case making him the one to say Remus is "the Queen" or "the queen of mean."

Remus is angry and says "i know exactly who to blame." He's blaming Roman for stealing Virgil. He's angry and hurt to have lost his best friend.

I think the true side that fits the song is Remus or Dee.

Hear me out.

Patton with his whole wolf in sheep's clothing phenomenon of having had a screwed up morality while developing as a side, he's the one who caused the split of the sides into "light" and "dark" sides.

"I never thought of myself as mean"

-Remus never really thought he was "bad" or a "monster" he just thought he was a prince like Roman, and was heartbroken when the split happened.

Patton changed the way of thinking:
"I always thought that I'd be the queen
And there's no in between"

So Remus is forced to think-

"'Cause if I can't have that
Then I would be the leader of the dark
And the bad"

He's told he's got to be the "dark side" or the "dark side of creativity" that he's "intrusive" or "evil"

"Now there's a devil on my shoulder
Where the angels used to be
And he's calling me the queen"

Patton, the devil on the shoulder strikes again.

Circle back to the beginning of the song and you get:

"I'm so tired of pretending
Where's my happy ending?"

-Remus is upset that he's treated differently than Roman by Patton, he's confused as to why he's not allowed to share how he feels, he's forced to pretend to be fine.

"I followed all the rules
I drew inside the lines
I never asked for anything that wasn't mine
I waited patiently for my time"

-Remus thought he could just do what Patton said and then maybe one day Patton would be proud of him or love him as much as he loved Roman. But he's wrong. Patton doesn't care.

"But when it finally came
He called her name"

Patton called Roman "the light side" or "the good side of creativity" he forced Remus out to the dark, leaving him alone with Deceit.

Then the split truly occurs, literally splitting Remus' head into just "the dark side of creativity" or "intrusive thoughts" as Patton dubbed them:

"And now I feel this overwhelming pain
I mean it's in my veins
I mean it's in my brain
My thoughts are running in a circle like a toy train
I'm kinda like a perfect picture with a broken frame"

When Patton takes away Remus' "good parts" and shoves them into Roman, then taking Roman's "bad parts" and shoving them into Remus, he overloads the "dark side" with the force of that pain.

"The anger burns my skin, third-degree
Now my blood's boiling hotter than a fiery sea"

He distances himself in efforts to never be hurt like that again, making sure he never gets heartbroken by anyone.

"Being nice was my pastime
But I've been hurt for the last time
And I won't ever let another person take advantage of me"

And the line:

"There's nobody getting close to me"

Then he's stuck as the embodiment of intrusive thoughts and "dark creativity" making the part of the song:

"Something's pulling me
It's so magnetic
My body is moving
Unsure where I'm headed
All of my senses have left me defenseless
This darkness around me
Is promising vengeance
The price that I'm willing to pay is expensive
There's nothing to lose
When you're lonely and friendless
So my only interest is showing this princess
That I am the queen
And my reign will be endless (endless)"

- this seems to be Talking about Remus' lack of control over his intrusive thoughts, he's the side of dark creativity, making him blind with betrayal and enmity towards Roman and Patton.

The price Remus is willing to pay seems to be either his own life, mind, or perhaps Deceit, maybe even Virgil. He's through with losing to his brother, and is deeply hurt by the world around him and inside of him.

He feels there's nothing to lose because he's the embodiment of intrusive thoughts, he doesn't believe  Deceit or Virgil actually cared for him or loved him. Remus would be the most likely to have some form of extreme self loathing or depression or even self doubts.

The princess is Roman.

"Your nightmare's my dream
Just wait until they fall to my wicked schemes"

Remus has power over the nightmare realm. (Somewhatish)

In conclusion:

Remus is a sad boi and Virgil didn't think about his actions before he ran to the light sides.

Like honestly Virgil what's going on with you? You of all people should understand Remus' pain.

Wait, maybe not, because well-

Remus probably never told Virgil about the painful drawbacks and conditions that came with his job.

Oof.

Time to go write ideas for Remus angst again!
