The above was a comment I left on a story that was meant to be about Virgil being hurt by Roman and the rest of the light sides, but ended up being the abusive romanticized prinxiety.
That's not love. That's unhealthy and delusional.
The following is my theories and my opinion on the excusing of Roman's behaviors.
(Also Roman is an adult, why should he still be learning how to act like it? ಠ_ಠ )
Roman is the "light side of creativity" the fanciful and "prince-like" side. The behavior he shows is not good. And as the "light side" he has no excuse. He should be the "good twin". Remus actually has an excuse for his behavior.
Remus is literally the embodiment of intrusive thoughts. He's the dark thoughts in people's heads, their depression, rage, lust, fears, and instincts. The "dark side of creativity".
He in reality would be more likely to have depression, in the same way that Virgil would have panic attacks and anxiety. I will add that while Patton is Thomas' "morality" and "dad figure" he's tied to some of Thomas' emotions, which would in turn also in a way make Thomas' morality or sense of good and bad askew. If Patton was swayed by emotions like anger, Thomas' morality would be overturned. Patton is either extremely overpowered and unfairly judging with his eyes, or he is extremely blinded by emotions and is completely without any real morality. If anyone would have caused The Split, it would have been dear ol Patton. Patton may very well be a wolf in sheep's clothing.
And unfortunately, no one would listen to Deceit's warnings.
Deceit, he said he was the side of deceit, which isn't just lying, omissions, denial, white lies, misleading information, evasion, fabrication, illusions, and delusions would be under his domain. Making Deceit the one who would know exactly what is actually going on, why do you think Deceit chose Patton to disguise himself as? Patton was the easiest to pretend to be because Patton lies to everyone, and especially to himself. Deceit would know about the delusional world Roman lives in, believing he is a hero. Deceit would be the most likely candidate for being the "dark sides' parental figure/ mom" Deceit is also most likely Thomas' self preservation, making morality have more reason to dislike him, as Thomas tends to put others before himself at all times. Deceit and Patton would be the original sides, (besides Remy, sleep was always there) making them the ones who would be the most likely to really remember The Split.
My theory is that Patton was still learning emotions and morals at the time, and was (as all kids are at one time) testing the boundaries and lengths they can go to without punishment. A moral compass is made not born. So in theory, Patton wasn't always as "good" or as "morally right" as he is portrayed to be in the series now. In my theory, Patton honestly thought that it would be good to split the twins, however, at that point he had created the dark sides as a concept, banishing Deceit and Remus to the "dark side" mindscape. Deceit, understandably, was pissed at Patton for doing such a horrible thing and for hurting Remus and calling Remus a monster. Deceit was rightfully angry and hateful of the "light sides" especially after seeing Roman's idea of being a prince and a hero. (After all, who calls their own twin brother a monster and a freak or a villain, who swears to kill their own flesh and blood?) Deceit would have hid any other "dark sides" away from the once monstrous Morality, fearing they too would be hurt. Virgil hadn't been formed until after The Split, so he wouldn't have understood why he couldn't see the light sides. He would've been angry and resented Deceit for not allowing him to leave the "dark sides" mindscape. Virgil would have unfortunately listened to his anxiety and not believed his family's words. He would have thought Deceit lied, and would have stormed off in a fit of anger and what he thought was betrayal of his friends, however, Deceit just wanted to protect his family from Morality.
Deceit was self preservation, he wouldn't have wished to let his family get hurt.
Deceit was a protective side, not a evil person.
The problem was, no one believed a side of "lies".
He lied and withheld and denied to protect his family.
They took him for granted and used him, then the minute they heard something they didn't like, abused him.
Where did he get that scar?
There are two possibilities:
1. Self inflicted through either disgust of his snake like traits, or from self hatred and despair of being betrayed and hurt by his family and everyone.
2. Someone, (the most likely suspects would be either Patton, our Orange side, or Virgil himself) did this to him. If it was Virgil, it would have been out of overwhelming rage and fear and betrayal of his friend. If it was Patton, (the most likely option), then it would be from Morality's delusions that Deceit was bad for Thomas or hatred for the side "so against everything Patton stood for". Perhaps even Patton attempted to strike Remus down, but Deceit took the blow meant for Remus. If it was the orange side, it could have been from a deep rooted past issue or a abusive relationship in which Deceit was hurt.
Either option is awful, but the likely one would be Patton as the culprit.
Morals can get clouded and twisted.
The wolf in sheep's clothing, or should I say:
The monster in a cardigan.
