8: Who cares?
TW: Vomiting
*Virgil POV*
Swim class was fine until it wasn't. About halfway through. My heart is racing and my stomach is doing somersaults. I'm pretty sure my body just hates me. I swim to the edge of the lake.
"I feel sick," I mutter.
"Like, a cold or-" Remus starts to ask.
My vomiting onto the grass is his answer.
"Virgil, go to the nurse," the coach says, "Remus, you take him,"
I pull myself out of the water and Remus splashes some on me.
"Hey!" I shout.
"I'm getting the vomit off. As great as it smells, the custodian's going to kill me if I let any in the hallways again," he says.
I nod.
"Let's go," he says.
As we grab our towels and make our way to the nurse's office, I start to feel a little sick again. Everyone saw me puke and wimp out of class again. Everyone knows.
"Hey, it's ok, Virgie. At least you got halfway through class," Remus says
"Yeah, then I threw up," I say.
"Eh. You got me out of class too, and it's not like anyone really cares," he says.
"They probably do. Not about me, but the fact that I puked and probably got some in the lake," I say.
"Surprise chunks," Remus shrugs.
"Ok, ew, ew. Maybe I should have gotten Janus to take me," I say.
"Oh calm your tits, I was just joking," Remus says.
We enter the nurse's office and Remus leaves to go back to swimming.
"Hello again, Virgil," the nurse says.
"Hey," I say.
"Did you get sick at swim class again?" she asks.
I nod. She hands me a towel.
"Wash yourself up and go to the library until your next class," she instructs, "And I still recommend you see Dr. Picani. He can help you with this,"
"I know, I know, I know," I say.
Emile is my friend, not my therapist. And if my problems only with swimming, I can just avoid doing that and I'll be fine.
I go into the bathroom and wash up. I keep my clothes bundled in my towel, so I get changed as well. All I left in my locker was my notebooks from my earlier classes, so I can get those later.
I go back up to my dorm and lie on my bed for a while. I'm tired and cold.
I sit up and wander around. I see a book poking out from under Janus's bed. The book they stole. Someone's going to notice it's gone soon, and we're all going to be in trouble. I still think they're idiots for stealing it.
I pull it out and open it up. The book has the most advanced energy manipulation moves, and we've been studying them. Some of them are frowned upon, and the book is for Seniors only.
I flip over to the forbidden pages. People manipulation. A part of me wants to learn it, just in case something happens, but the other part of me says it's way too dangerous.
I flip to another section. Sound manipulation. Nobody uses this form, both because it's seen as just plain bad, but also because it's hard. I don't personally see how it's bad, so I think I'll study it.
*Logan POV*
Virgil leaves swim class early again. Nobody else seems concerned, but I am. Janus said he hates swimming, but I think he might have severe anxiety from it. It's upsetting to not see anybody besides Janus and Remus actually caring.
"You good, Lo?" Roman asks.
I blink and shake my head.
"What?" I ask.
"You're staring off into space and were about to sink," he says.
"Oh. My apologies, I was just thinking," I say.
"There's no time for thinking right now, we're swimming!" Roman says, "And we're playing Sharks and Minnows for the last half-hour,"
"Rawr! I'm a shark!" Patton says, coming up from under Roman and splashing him.
"Ah, a splash battle! I will best you, foolish man!" Roman says, splashing him back.
"Roman, Patton, stop! We are starting the game now and rough play won't be tolerated," the coach says.
Roman rolls his eyes and swims away. Patton stays in the middle of the lake.
"I hate the no splashing rule. It's stupid," Roman grumbles.
"It does seem rather useless," I say.
"Alright everyone, we're starting!" someone shouts.
I wipe the water out of my eyes are Patton shouts 'Sharks and minnows!'.
---
"Logan! What does 'anaerobic' mean?" Patton asks.
"A process that doesn't require oxygen," I say, "Do you need to study the flashcards again?"
It's four PM, and we're all doing our homework. Normally, we'd be in our dorm, but Patton is planning on helping cook afterward, so we're in the cafeteria.
"No, I just forgot. Thanks!" Patton says.
"So, Lo, what's the tea on Janus and his crew?" Roman asks.
"The tea?" I ask.
"Gossip. What's going on with them?" he asks.
"Nothing. They're actually pretty nice," I say.
"Don't get too comfortable. They might be manipulating you," Roman warns.
"I doubt they are," I say, "Shall we work on our abilities homework?"
Roman glares at me but Patton nods.
"Sure! We're still supposed to practice light, but we also have water this time!" Patton says, looking at his notebook.
I nod. Roman pulls out his water bottle and dumps some onto the table.
"Roman, my homework!" Patton shrieks.
"Sorry!" Roman says, grabbing the now soaking notebook.
"Patton, maybe you could make its temperature rise and evaporate the water that way," I say.
"Good idea. I haven't gotten the hang of evaporating it normally," Patton says, nodding.
After nearly twenty minutes of practicing, I've managed to evaporate part of my water, when we hear footsteps rushing towards us. The door swings open.
"H-hey. Have you guys s-seen Remy?" Virgil asks, panting and leaning on the door frame.
"Why do you care?" Roman spits.
"My apologies, but we haven't," I say.
Roman looks at me.
"O-oh. Ok, ok," Virgil says, leaving.
Roman turns back to me.
"Why- nevermind," he says.
"He was just asking a question. I saw no reason to be rude," I say.
Roman rolls his eyes. I look over to Patton. He seems extremely focused on the water. I let out a sigh.
"I'm going back to the dorm," I say, "I can't focus here,"
"Ok kiddo! I'll bring you back a cookie!" Patton says.
I nod, gather my stuff, and leave.
Go hydrate. Stop what you're doing and hydrate. Ok, so I hope you enjoyed reading, feel free to leave ay thoughts or feedback in the comments, and have a splendid day/night you magnificent peep!
