I'm going to start this off by saying I wholeheartedly apologize for the wait! I did finish the whole novel though and hope I can give a more accurate review overall. I appreciate your patience!
The first thing I'll discuss is the characters. They were all so fantastic and fleshed out, no two characters were even remotely the same. My favorite has to be Miles. I could relate to his everyday struggle and his battle with his inner demons. But on the outside, he was still carefree and such a loveable guy. Parker's struggles were very relatable too and anyone could see it, not just people in the LGBTQ+. Even Graham (who I hated in the beginning) really showed a different side of him and I enjoyed seeing his character throughout and making such a large impact.
The setting. Well... it's set in high school and high school sucks in most cases. But how this was cleverly written, it wasn't the typical high school romance you might expect. When the characters had class together, the tension was written well enough to the point that you forgot about where they were. It helps to even out the cliche. However, this book was a breath of fresh air. Sure it had the high school experience and the after school parties but you're so engulfed with what the characters are doing that you hardly realize it. I also liked reading about the California scenery spread throughout. I'm a sucker for beach scenes.
LGBT! There's never enough gay romance novels. Especially in the published world. I love the classic flirty/shy trope in this genre too. Miles was cool and collected while slowly falling and Parker was the shy one who couldn't come to terms quick enough that he liked the other. It drove me nuts as a reader (in a good way). Then when they did get together, it was pure magic. I loved their dynamic. Also the football player/new kid trope? *chef's kiss*
It's spicy! I love smut and am not afraid to admit it. It took awhile for the characters to get to that point but when they did, it was beautifully written and flowed really well. Writing sexy scenes is difficult to explain so seeing the ease into these scenes made reading enjoyable. So for anyone who also likes smut, please give the book some time. It's well worth it.
Overall, I really enjoyed this novel! It was well planned out and transitioned into tough scenes and sexy scenes expertly. I recommend it not only because it's spicy or LGBT, but because it's written well enough to seriously be published in the future. And if that's not enough for you, the characters are so relatable and makes it easy to get lost in.
Thanks so much for letting me review this wonderful book!
