Dreamare

Imagine goopy Nightmare but Dream convinced him to be stay and calm down instead of murdering people, so goopy Nightmare and Dream still protect what remains of the tree??

Basically Goopy Nightmare and Dream gets along

Dream was currently a sobbing mess- he couldn't believe what was happening. The fact that he was on top of a little hill made it much worse. It meant he got a front row view to everyone killing theirselves. Shock was currently ruining his ability to think properly as he watched people die one by one. He was snapped out of it by Nightmare, pulling him away and dragging him to their small little home.

Dream, still in a state of shock, just stared into an empty space with a look of disbelief. While Dream was busy being Dream, Nightmare got to work and started boarding up the house. He blocked the windows and put up curtains, making sure not a single thing could peek into the house.

Nightmare eventually finished. He let out a sigh as he sat down next to the usually cheery skeleton. He pat his back a couple of times, not really sure on how to comfort somebody. They sat in silence for a moment.

"Nightmare..?" Dream spoke after who knows how long. Fear and confusion was still visible in his eyes. He couldn't comprehend what he just saw- hundreds of villagers taking their own lives through different ways.

Nightmare, once he finished locking theirselves up, let out a loud sigh of relief as he sat down next to Dream. He wasn't sure how he was going to explain it to Dream.

As Nightmare tried to conjure up the right set of words and it's order, Dream spoke up.

"What were those..?" Dream asked, sadness and worry lingered in his tone. You would almost never see the Guardian upset like this, but then considering the circumstances, it was pretty reasonable.

Nightmare looked at Dream, feeling his words get stuck in his throat. After a few more seconds of thinking, he finally explained.

"The things that happened outside.. it was caused by.. me.. They see things that make them feel negative feelings and make them want to kill themselves. What each person sees is different, due to everyone having different fears and weaknesses. I.. was the one who let those things loose." Nightmare explained, trying to keep his tone straight, trying to seem tough even though he was fearing for their safety.

Dream looked at Nightmare, unsure of what to say. Multiple thoughts ran through his head as he tried to process this. He stayed silent for a couple more moments, making the silence almost unbearable for Nightmare.

"Are we.. going to die?" Dream asked, his eyes filling up with tears. He didn't want to die- not after what they've been through. He didn't want to give it all up. Not when the two have finally been getting along.

Nightmare took a while to answer. He didn't exactly know the answer, but he believed that he could protect the small sunshine, no matter what.

"...Of course not." Nightmare said as he pulled the smaller into a hug, giving Dream the tightest hug he's ever given him. (Not actually that tight since Nightmare never hugs Dream tightly.) Dream hugged back, shutting his eyes as he tried to keep the tears inside. Both were clearly dying inside.

-Couple of Days later-

A couple of days have passed and Nightmare has grown more and more worried with Dream's behavior. Dream believes that since he's basically an embodiment of positiveness, then there's no way he could die from negative feelings. Dream believes he'd simply won't have any.

Of course, Nightmare knows that Dream is more than wrong and lectures him about it, but that doesn't exactly stop Dream from trying to sneak out and see for himself.

This has caused Nightmare to grow rather irritated, annoyed, and impatient. He got so displeased one time that he was tempted to throw Dream out there.

He managed to control himself, but it's been getting harder ever since the people with a screw loose has been knocking on their door, asking for "help".

Dream clearly wanted to help and Nightmare had to stop Dream from opening the door every single time.

Dream got way too close to succeeding one time, and that definitely did not please him.

"Dream! How many damn times do I have to tell you before you STOP trying to open the door for people?!" Nightmare yelled at Dream with a scowl on his face. The smaller stood in front of him. He was scared but he refused to show it- he believed he needed to stand up against Nightmare.

"Come on, Nighty! We can't just stay here forever! We have to leave eventually and see how everything is doing outside! We can't just lock ourselves in here forever! What do you think wi-" Dream was cut off by Nightmare, the goopy skeleton clearly mad.

"No- NO! You do what I say if you want to live. Why in the hell do you think I'm doing this? Do you think I like being cooped up in this small space? Do you think I don't feel guilty everytime someone comes up to our door and asks for "help"? Do you think I don't want to leave this place?! Everything I do.. is for YOU! It's for YOUR SAFETY! What is so hard to understand about that?!" Nightmare exclaimed, Dream being all wrapped up in Nightmare's tentacles. It seems like Nightmare wrapped Dream with those while he was lashing out.

"Night.. you don't understand.. You-" Dream was once again cut off. But this time, not just with words.

"SHUT UP!" Nightmare screeched as he hit Dream's head with a tentacle. He turned around and took deep breaths, trying to caln himself down.

As he turned back around, he realized he had just made a mistake.

Around Dream's eye holes were huge cracks. It looked like as if one wrong move can send half his face crumbling down. Whatever was left of his eye holes started to brim with tears.

"...N-Night..? I can't.. see.." Dream muttered as he held onto Nightmare's tentacles tightly.

Nightmare immediately regretted his actions and rushed to try and fix this- but then he realized something. Wouldn't it be better if he just left Dream to be unable to see? Dream wouldn't see anything that could cause him to kill hinself, and Nightmare could just protect him from anything else that was a threat.

He stared down onto Dream as he thought of this. Technically, Nightmare could heal him, but he didn't plan to- and still technically, Dream could heal himself. Nightmare had to find a way to make sure Dream wouldn't heal himself so he could see again.

And at the time, Nightmare could only think of one solution. So, he hit Dream's head harshly with a tentacle again. And again. And again. All while Dream was sobbing and screaming under his grasp, begging him to stop, and insisting that he'll never try to leave again.

By the time Nightmare was done, Dream's eye holes were connected with cracks and holes. The same eye holes had tears rushing down his cheeks. Not only did Dream lose his sight, but he also managed to get a handful of bruises on his face too. The damage was beyond repair now. No magic or spell could fix his eyes or help him see.

As Nightmare set him down on the floor, Dream started to quietly sob- rolling up into a ball and hugging his knees. Nightmare looked down at what he had done before he sat down beside Dream and pulled him into a hug. They stayed like that for a couple moments before Nightmare finally said something to break the silence

"I'm sorry. I had to.."
