Epilogue
Her eyes opened to see the reason behind the continuous sound that had disturbed her sleep. They widened just as she realised that it was the sound of her baby crying.
Was it a dream or she was really awake? Because nearly an hour ago, she had heard him crying. But noticing that Karan had gotten up already, she had closed her eyes thinking that he would change the diaper this time.
She blinked her half-closed eyes and noticed the time in the alarm clock on his night stand. It was quarter past two and she couldn't help but get worried.
She was about to turn around and got up to check why Karan wasn't her side and why her baby was still crying but stopped when she heard a voice.
"Hey! Quiet! You're going to wake her up, buddy."
Preeta bit her lip to stop the sweet smile that was curving her lips. She blinked and quietly heard him further saying,"Shhh. . . Take it easy. Yeah, see. Waa. . . You like my nose?"
She pressed her lips tight and squeezed her eyes shut to control the laugh. It had been almost ten days since she gave birth to this beautiful miracle of her life.
Only a mother could tell, how wonderful this feeling was. Preeta was utterly overwhelmed that she had entered into a new phase of life.
"Your nose is similar as mine. You are going to be a heartbreaker with those looks as same as your father's, you naughty little thing," he cooed.
Preeta blinked and smiled when their son had finally stopped crying. She could hear her husband sighing and then, it sounded as if he was walking slowly from left to right, beside the couch.
"No. No. No way. Don't cry. Okay, fine. We will walk. Yeah, see. You like it, buddy. Yeah. You like the cold air touching these cute cheeks. My chubby champ," he tweeted.
Preeta's eyebrows furrowed as their little son started making that wailing sound again as he was beginning another session of crying but her husband was being quite hardworking tonight.
"Shhh. . . Hey! Hey! Alright! It's fine. Look at me. See, your Daddy. Look, what's daddy doing? You like it?"
She bit her lip while imagining what type of funny faces he would be making right now that their son had gotten silent again.
Karan laughed while Preeta couldn't help but feel touched by these little gestures of him. He had a meeting the next day which he had informed her about, very seriously. Now, he himself didn't wake her up and changed baby's diaper on his own.
And it wasn't just about changing, he would have to clean him, threw the waste one in the dustbin, putting the new one, and now, trying hard to make him sleep.
It had been just three days, Karan started sleeping with her in their room. Before these days, it was her mother-in-law who was sleeping with her as Preeta was still very unaware of some little things that a mother should know.
To mentor her, they decided to let her mother-in-law sleep with her for some days. But just as they noticed that Preeta was picking up and getting adjusted to her duties; heartily and quickly, they finally let Karan sleep with them.
But from last three days and nights, she could see how cooperative he was. She remembered the day of delivery. He had panicked while holding his own son but then, just as he saw him. He smiled.
With eyes full of tears, nostrils flaring with emotions, and lips trembling yet he smiled.
Preeta felt astonished at giving him such happiness. He hadn't stopped kissing her, not caring if anyone was watching them.
He was out of the world.
Preeta knew, how their baby meant so much to him. It was a big happiness. A miracle, that every couple wishes to experience. It changes life and Preeta fully agreed.
This feeling had changed their lives. They had became from a couple to parents.
She would sometimes smile goofily recalling how the whole family was arguing to hold the baby first. She didn't know what goodness, she had done to get such a beautiful family, such a perfect husband and such a blessing in form of her baby.
Since that incident about those photos, Karan had been cautious over things.
She had observed how in a year, he had gotten more understanding. He had let her complete one semester and rest she would complete by distance learning.
He even assigned tutors for her. He never compromised with her needs, her medicines, her visits to hospitals, her wishes.
It felt like that incident had settled a fear in his heart. He behaved as if his little carelessness would lead to the end of their relationship which she would never let happen.
She had tried to make him understand that she wasn't angry at him anymore, even though she would never forget it. But Karan had been seriously affected by the incident.
He made her smile, he made her laugh. He changed her thoughts about their baby by talking to her day and night, slowly and calmly. He had been deeply affected about her words for their child.
Preeta herself felt as if she had committed a sin by calling their son, a curse. But of course, she was angry and Karan didn't care about it.
He just wanted to clear his own doubts by seeing her talking to their child, smiling while looking at her own swollen belly. Moments like this had settled his heart. Otherwise, she knew that he had gotten quite scared because of her words.
She immediately closed her eyes when she didn't hear any voice. Maybe, he was finally laying their baby into the crib.
Her heart swelled in happiness, at how he didn't make an effort to wake her up and took care of him, not caring about his own sleeping schedule.
Was there anymore ways to win her heart?
Because as far she knew, her husband had done enormous things which she could never pay back for. Even if she was greedy or didn't deserve it. For all the love he had given her and would further do, she could die for this wonderful husband of hers.
His care, his possessiveness, his efforts, his obsession--- had filled every single corner of her heart with his love.
She couldn't think if she can see her future without him. Because it was him, she wanted to live further with, to see there child grow together, to have more kids with him, to grow old with him.
"Preeta? Preeta?"
She groaned as he shook her shoulders. "I am up. Don't worry," she moaned lazily.
A sigh of relief escaped his mouth. "I thought you were having a nightmare. What of these expressions as if you would cry?"
"It's nothing."
She opened her eyes and smiled at seeing their baby lying in between them. Her smile widened as she shifted closer and touched his tiny hand. As always, her sleepy son wrapped his tiny fingers around her finger and Preeta wiggled her eyebrows at her husband.
"See," she whispered while Karan rolled his eyes.
"Wow. Diaper changed, peace returned. Forget daddy. Great," he muttered while laying closer to them as he wrapped his big arm around both of them.
Preeta chuckled softly. She raised herself to kiss his lips and pulled back to stare at him dreamily. "Why didn't you wake me up?"
His ears turned red as he bit his inner cheek. She smiled and kissed his cheek. "Couldn't miss the father-son moment?" she muttered.
"Whatever! Lower your voice," he whispered while glancing at their son.
Preeta giggled and kissed him again, noticing how he was the one being responsible all of a sudden. She quietly laid back down and stared at him with a sweet smile.
A smirk curved on his lips. "Can't stop staring at this masterpiece?"
She rolled her eyes but didn't hide the sweet smile. "Not when you are being so good."
"Just good?"
She looked away while pretended to think. "Caring. . ."
"And?" Karan mused.
"Loving, cute and adorable," she giggled.
Karan narrowed his eyes at her. "Where are those words? Sexy, hottie?"
"Yeah, sexy and hottie. But forgetful too. You still haven't helped in choosing the name," she whined while playing with her son's tiny fingers.
He blinked and made patterns on her waist with his thumb. "We will. But for now, I need some taste," he whispered while raising himself so he could steal a kiss from her but suddenly, a soft cry interrupted their moment and he laid back on the bed.
Preeta cooed in her baby's ears and patted his tiny arm gently. When he was back to being asleep, she fake glared at her husband.
"Mom was scolding me, yesterday. It's been ten days, Karan. She was calling us careless. So many parents decide the names even before the birth and some couples, even before they get married. Look at us," she whisper-yelled.
Karan sighed,"Alright. Fine. It's not like we didn't think about it. You know, I am not good with names. You should have told her to suggest us," he murmured while looking at her face that she shook immediately.
"No, I want to name my own baby. But I need help. She was suggesting good names but they sound a bit old." He chuckled at her adorable expressions.
"How do you say those poetic, pick up lines then? Where's that creativity now?" she muttered while glancing at their son.
Karan raised his eyebrows. "What about your thoughtfulness? You must have thought some types?"
Preeta blinked and nodded. "I want it to begin with K," she blushed.
Karan's eyebrows raised immediately. He smirked while humming at her to deepen her blush which eventually did.
"Karan, please. A name beginning with K. It sounds good with Luthra," she explained softly.
"Or you just want him to look up to me," he murmured softly.
Preeta blushed and bit her lip. Honestly, this was the actual reason. She wanted her son to be as understanding as his father. She wanted him to be bold, determined, daring just like him.
"Yes? So, he could always remind hinself by his name that how mad his mom is in love with his daddy," he murmured teasingly making her red.
"Shut up."
"I love you too." Preeta giggled and narrowed her eyes at him.
"Please," she requested.
"Alright," he sighed while glancing at his son. "With K, okay. How's Karthik or something like Krish?"
Preeta saw him widening his eyes. He smiled widely and looked at their son. "Krish Karan Luthra, it sounds great."
Preeta pouted dejectedly. "That's not decent. It sounds like a bad boy name."
Karan rolled his eyes. "Knox?"
"Similar."
He hummed,"Ketan, Kunal?"
She shook her head. "Too common."
"It's your turn, then."
Preeta sighed,"Something similar to yours. We could name him 'Karam'."
Karan scrunched up his nose. "Karam Karan Luthra? It doesn't suit for my son."
Preeta huffed and rolled on her back. She stared at the ceiling when he interrupted again. "How about ship names? Like Karan and Preeta. Kreeta?"
Preeta laughed,"That sounds girlish."
"No. Couples do that. Think about another one. Preeta. . . Taran. . ."
"It's not making sense. They aren't even any words or names," she muttered softly.
"Krish Karan Luthra. Final."
"I am not naming my baby that."
Karan fake gasped,"He is my baby too."
Preeta shook her head while yawning. "Another one."
"How about twin names? Rohit and Mohit," he whispered enthusiastically.
She breathed lazily while keeping her eyes half-closed. "Where's the other son?"
"We can make him anytime soon or maybe a babydoll," he cooed while she shook her head with an amused smile on her face.
She closed her eyes while hearing his hearty chuckle which fluttered her heart so wildly. Covering his hand on her waist with hers, she breathed leisurely and finally felt herself drifting into a deep slumber, but not before thanking God to grant her this beautiful life.
To grant her someone as caring as her husband for who would always be as naughty and loving, as to make this life a wonderful journey.
For who would always be ready to do anything to win her heart, again and again.
