There is a type of feeling when your heart feels heavy. The feeling comes over you so violently that you feel like running into that only moment leaving all other things behind. It's called being restless.
Preeta was sitting there restlessly with so many things in her mind. She held her forehead and closed her eyes. So many thoughts had covered her mind that she couldn't hear her inner conscience.
"Preeta, it's our turn." She slowly looked at her husband blankly. Her gaze observed his tired face yet there was a small smile on his face which was signing encouragement to her.
With the operation done already, her father's reports turned out positive which had brought relief among all of them. Everyone was thanking God for keeping her father fine. After two hours when doctor announced that he was alright, the Aroras visited the patient one by one. A pair was allowed at one time and it was now turn for PreeRan.
Slowly nodding her head, Preeta stood up from the couch. Karan immediately wrapped his arm around her to hold her forearm and Preeta felt Shikha's words replaying in her mind.
"We couldn't have find a better person for you, Preeta."
Preeta looked briefly at Karan and lowered her gaze to the floor while walking. Shikha had told her so much that she herself hadn't got the time to think of what should she do now. Her father's health was the biggest issue and she first wanted to relieve herself by watching him breathing calmly.
With Karan's support, she slowly entered the room. The couple looked around the room and saw her father lying on the bed with medical equipments around him. Some IVs were connected to his both the arms and Preeta gulped at the sick feeling that was erupting by seeing so much weakness on her father's face.
"Papa..." She whispered while sitting on the stool beside his bed. Following her Karan too sat beside her on another stool. Her father's eyes opened and he finally smiled at her.
"My princess." Her heart broke at the sad smile his father was smiling. She couldn't stop her tears but gulped and controlled when Karan squeezed her hand that he had intertwined with his.
"I am upset with you, papa." A soft chuckle erupted from her father as he slowly tried to lift himself up on the pillows. Karan immediately helped him and made him sit a little narrowed to not affect the stitches.
"Why did you have to drink when you knew it could hurt you? Have seen mummy's face? Bhai and bhabhi came all night driving for you. And you are laughing at me." She sobbed making Karan smile at her weird behavior.
Her father held her other hand. "Forgive me, bachhe. Your father was stupid to do so. I promise I won't do it again. What could I do when this body is getting older day by day? We old people, will now automatically get diseases and pains." Preeta scoffed and sobbed quietly making her father sighed.
"I know I shouldn't have done that. Blame that old colleague of mine who offered me the drink and I was charmed to take it. My brain had left me alone that time. But I promise, i will take care now. Forgive me, bachhe. You know these tears will make me more weak. C'mon, tell her Karan that I am genuinely sorry." Her father gave Karan a pleading look who himself was disappointed with his behaviour.
He had been so much worried about his health himself. He had been contacting the doctors daily, approaching them so they could give Mr. Arora proper medications. But watching his pleading eyes, he sighed and finally looked at a broken Preeta.
"He's saying sorry, Preeta." He said while wrapping his arm around her and rubbing it. The mere gesture melted Mr. Arora heart as he smiled at the couple and was happy to see that Preeta was finally coping up with this marriage.
Preeta shook her head and leaned on Karan's shoulder. "He doesn't care if we all are tensed for him. He just drinks whatever people offers not even caring that it is like a poison for him. Doesn't he know how we have spent whole night worrying for his life? I don't want to talk to him." Karan smiled at her childish behavior and rubbed her back soothingly. Her father laughed mildly.
"Okay, my grandma. I will do anything you will say. Just forgive me. I won't do it again." Looking at her father's innocent face, she finally gave up and sighed.
"Fine. But you have to take care from now. You will not eat or drink what you are not supposed to. You won't be careless anymore..." Her father cut her off. "Fine, madam. Fine. I'll do it."
Karan chuckled at the scene and smiled back at his father-in-law. Preeta suddenly saw her father's face turning serious as he spoke,"I am so happy to see both of you, finally accepting each other." Preeta's heart started beating faster at her father's words while Karan nowhere near ready for this conversation.
"Karan, it is lame to even tell you how your kind actions means everything to me. I'll be always in your debt. Naveen told me how you took care of everything last night to even now. Not just this time, but from the beginning..." Karan's eyes widened as he gave Mr. Arora a nervous smile to action that Preeta was here but he continued,"You have been my great son. I am grateful that I got you for my daughter. I hope, you know how much your contribution means life to me."
Karan swallowed and looked briefly at Preeta. She was staring at her lap and was listening everything. He nervously looked at her father and shook his head. "I know. But don't embarrass me by repeating it again and again. We are family and we care for each other. There's no big deal. Please don't think about it anymore. What you need to do is recover and get back to your proper health."
Mr. Arora smiled and gazed at the beautiful couple. He sighed happily. "I will." Watching Preeta normal with Karan had made him glad that things were getting fine. He couldn't help but wonder how Karan had taken care of all the time because he was sure about him. His son-in-law was one in millions. He knew that this would happen one day. He would make it happen.
He would make her believe in him.

Two days passed and things were finally getting back to place. Preeta was slowly moving on with the tragedy that happened and was taking reports from her mother about her Father's health. He was assigned to be discharged after four days. Karan had taken her every evening to her father. Preeta was getting relieved slowly.
But this wasn't ended just yet. She was still burdened by Shikha's words. She had thought about his actions last two nights. She couldn't help but wonder why Karan would want to hide such a big secret from her. Didn't he want her to get impressed by her actions? Didn't he want her to get melt by his kindness?
She didn't know what was the reason. Shaking her head, she quietly looked at Karan who was working on his laptop, sitting on the bed. Her heart clenched while reminding herself that he had been so much hardworking these days. He had been engaging himself in work so much that she hated how she hadn't got the time to even pour her thoughts out to him.
She noticed how he had changed from past years. He had been calm, patient, caring. No matter how desperate he was, he hadn't touched her during nights. Moreover, he even had been reporting her about the medications of her father.
She looked at him with concentration. She silently liked how of a hot geek he looked while wearing those glasses during work. She liked how he smirked after he talked about the accomplished work with his dad. His beauty had been increased with these years. From a handsome, naughty, stubborn, bad boy; he had became a devilishly handsome, confident business man. She smiled foolishly thinking how she hadn't noticed all of this before.
Just because Shikha had said the truth, her thoughts were changing about him. She exclaimed that she was mean for loving him because of his kind actions for her father. It wasn't nice. She still couldn't forget his past actions. But also couldn't deny, how he had worked hard to gain her family's trust.
"Preeta." She heard his authorized voice and gulped before looking at him. Then, she realised her blurry vision. Immediately, breathing out she blinked and straightened herself. Walking towards him, she stopped silently beside the bed.
"Is everything alright? Do you need anything?" He asked in concern while removing his specs and keeping them at the drawer. Preeta swallowed and stared at him.
Why had he made it tough for her? She had been so conflicted to decide if she should be still hating him for his past actions or forgive him that he had been making it up for her. Most of all, his good looks and true nature was melting her heart day by day. The sudden attraction was making her feel something that she hadn't felt before. She hadn't ever thought of intimacy before.
With intimacy, her mind turned to think of that gift for the client. A fury raged inside her thinking that how beside everything, his loyalty was still in doubt. She needed to confront him about it. She wouldn't get relief unless they sort it out.
Hanging her one leg and other on the bed, she sat exactly in front of him. Placing the hand on laptop's back, she shut it and put it beside while observing Karan's raised eyebrows. His blank look was showing how he was unaware of her actions. She gulped and stared at his handsome face. He still hadn't shaved the growing stubble and it irked Preeta that he wasn't taking care of himself.
Shifting closer to him, she shocked herself by staring at him intently. Before Karan could ask what she was doing, she softly spoke,"What do you think of me?" Saying that Karan was confused, was an understatement. He was bewildered.
"What am I?" She repeated while staring at him with a blank look. Karan opened his mouth to say something but shut it back when couldn't decipher what was going on with his wife.
She shifted closer to him so that there knees were touching. Bringing her legs over his, she held his white shirt's collar. Karan widened his eyes and looked weirdly at her. "What are you doing?" Shaking her head, Preeta glared at him making all of his senses lost. Karan was concerned for why she was behaving like this all of a sudden.
Preeta stared at his face which was just inches away. She closed her eyes and breathed harder. The tears of guilt immediately started pouring out as she controlled her sobs to say what she wanted him to hear.
"Everyone said, you loved me. You yourself said to me. But I had been one sick bitch..." Karan's heart hammered at the close proximity but what more shocking was her silent sobs and unusual words. She continued,"Everyone does mistake, everyone realises that. They regret and do good things to cover it up genuinely. You have been doing so many good things for me..."
Preeta pulled her face back and looked at him with teary eyes. "... For a heartless girl like me. I was no one but you made me a wife of a rich businessman. I have someone beautiful in my life whom girls swoon over. You made me lucky..." She tilted her head and stared at his blank face. "... You have told me you loved me, Karan. You have told me, you will keep me happy. Why would you want to do that when I had always be the reason behind your sufferings? You have been pushed by me again and again still you supported me everytime I needed you. Why?"
She clutched his shirt tight in her hands and sniffled before continuing,"Aren't you tired of my rejection? Don't you hate me for not pleasing you? Why would you help my father in his medical treatments?..." Karan's breathing stopped and he stared at her in shock. Preeta being unfazed by his reaction continued her rant,"... Why you have been paying all along this time? I could blame you to do that for luring me in your arms but I can't because you didn't even let me know about it."
Warm tears slid down her cheek as she stared at him with soft expressions. "What is so special about me, Karan? I had never forgiven you, never returned your love. Then, why so much efforts for me?"
She waited for him to speak but Karan was quiet. He didn't know what to say. What came over her that she was asking him all of this? Blinking in strangeness, he stared at her tear-stained face. Didn't she know that he had felt completed when she greets her parents like hers? Didn't she know that his heart swelled when she smiled beautifully? Her whole existence mattered to him. Her happiness, her feelings, everything mattered to him. There was millions of reasons that he loved her. But what was so special in her, he couldn't explain. There were so many things about her that had made her special among others. He couldn't just explain.
Preeta gripped his collar tight and pulled him near her. Reaching his hands, she held and placed them on her waist making herself gulp. Karan's eyes widen as he immediately asked,"What you are doing, Preeta? What's happened?"
She ignored him and leaned closer to his face. "Kiss me, touch me, do anything you want. I won't stop you..." A sob escaped her mouth that had clenched Karan's heart. He stared at her bloodshot eyes in concern. She looked at him and wrapped her arms around his torso.
"... I have been a very bad wife. A useless one. You have been so cooperative, so much caring. You did so much for my family without even letting me know. You care for me, my people, your people. You have been right all the time. I had been overreacting a lot. But not anymore. I understand how of a blind I was to not see your love, your efforts to gain my trust. I see them, Karan. I see them, now..."
She bit her lip and controlled a loud sob. Karan was not only bewildered but hurt seeing her so much heartbroken. She looked so much stressed, conflicted. From how many days, she knew about his help for her father? From how many days she had been fighting with her feelings? He stared at her blankly while listening her further words.
"... I am sorry, Karan. I am so sorry. For for pushing you, for breaking your heart, for rejecting you again and again. My harsh words, my slaps, my glares, I am ashamed by all of them. I have been a very bad wife. I have been ruining your days and nights for so long. But now, I want to please you like a good wife. I want to release all your stresses, all your wait for these past years. I want to remove all of it. I want to be a good wife. I want to be a good wife..."
She closed her eyes and choked out the final words,"Because you have been a great husband all this time."
