Loki sucks, low-key

The morning of Chapter 1 in the Hammer of Thor

"You can't make me do that!" Samirah cried, glaring at her father.

"I am your father," Loki responded, glaring at her back. "Whatever I say goes."

Samirah was well aware of her grandparents watching, and glaring, at her as she spoke to her father.

Loki had showed up in the middle of her house, explaining everything. How he and her mom met,
how Samirah had become a Valkyrie, and her quest for the Sword of Summer. Then he explained his plan to marry her off to a giant to get Thor's hammer.

The problem was, Samirah was engaged, and she didn't really want to marry a giant.

"But I—" Samirah stopped short. How could she explain Amir to Loki? Would he really understand? Or care, for that matter?

"Samirah, keep your mouth shut and sit down," Loki ordered.

Samirah felt a familiar coldness run through her body as her father's order took over her mind. She sat down, and suddenly her voice didn't work anymore.

As much as she wanted to protest, she knew in her heart it was a lost cause. Loki could control her. She couldn't fight back without getting ordered to step aside.

Don't cry.

She wouldn't cry in front of Loki. Especially when everyone in the room was glaring at her.

"You will do this. That is an order. Understand?" Loki told her. Her head jerked up and down as he forced her to nod.

"Good girl,"

He walked to her grandparents and handed them invitations. Then he handed one to Samirah. She stood up and gave her the most hateful glare she could muster as she took it from him. Loki walked to the door, but she knew he would just disappear once he stepped outside.

"Oh, and Samirah?" Loki said, turning back to her. "You might want to tell that Fadlan boy that you care so much about that you can't marry him."

He slammed the door, leaving Samirah standing there in the living room, staring at the door.

Don't cry.

Amir was pacing in front of the fireplace, running his fingers through his hair. Over the years, Samirah had noticed that was something he did whenever he got nervous.

"Sam, I don't understand. I love you!" he said

Samirah flinched. "It's complicated," she replied, choosing her words carefully. "Nothing about how I feel about you changed. I swear."

"Then why can't you..." he trailed off, not trusting herself to finish that sentence.

She took a deep breath. "Because I'm the daughter of Loki." She glanced at the adults. Amir's father would probably forget this in a few hours, but he didn't look like he was listening.

Amir stopped pacing and blinked at her. "You mean like in Marvel?" He asked. "You feel like more of a daughter of—wait, that's not the point. What?"

This was not going to end well. "Like, the Norse mythology is real and I'm the daughter of Loki and my super mysterious father was actually a god that fell in love with my mom..." she sounded crazy. Amir was staring at her like she was crazy.

Don't cry.

So she calmed down and explained everything, slower. With each sentence, Amir looked more and more confused. By the end, he was back to tugging on his hair.

"I know it sounds really weird, but I swear it's all real," she added. "Now my father is forcing me to marry this giant but I don't want to and I swear I would never agree to this if I had a choice. But I don't because he can control me." The look on her face was so perfectly miserable that Amir's confused expression faded into sympathy.

"I'm really trying to understand," he said. "But I just don't get it."

"I don't know how else to describe it," Samirah said. "It's all real though."

Amir had stopped listening. She wasn't sure if he would ever listen to her again. She knew how crazy she sounded to him.

"Just call me later and I'll show you," she said.

Then she got up and left the room, leaving Amir behind her.

Don't cry.

Samirah was getting yelled at. Again.

She was sitting in the living room. Amir had left. Her grandparents were asking/yelling questions at her about not telling them that she was a Valkyrie.

At this point, Samirah was just so done with everyone. She had talked to Magnus, but some goat assassin attacked. Amir probably hated her, Loki was being his awful self, and now Jid and Bibi were yelling at her. No one was even trying to understand what she was going through. No one had once asked her how she felt with all of this.

"Why didn't you tell us?" Bibi asked for the maybe millionth time.

"And why did the frost giant attack your school?" Jid added.

Don't cry.

Samirah sighed. "I couldn't tell you because I wasn't supposed too. And I have no idea why the first giant attacked. He's dead."

"Why did you LIE to us?" Bibi added

"I never tried to lie. Just...tell a slightly exaggerated version of what happened?" Even as she said it sounded wrong.

Don't cry, don't cry.

There questions were overlapping now, and she couldn't hear what they were saying properly. She was just so mad.

Don't cry don't cry don't cry.

"How do we know when to TRUST you know?" Her grandfather asked

"Where will you GO next time you tutor?" Her grandmother asked

Don'tcrydon'tcrydon'tcry.

Then guess what happened? She started crying.

"I don't know!" She screamed as she sobbed, "I'm sorry I lied to you, but I was just trying to follow the rules. And I'm sorry for that too! I'm sorry that I went on quests to save the world from the apocalypse, and  I'm sorry that I was just trying to help! I didn't ask for Loki to be my father, and I didn't ask to get married off to a giant. And no one understands! So if you don't mind, I would really like to be alone right now, or will I get yelled at for doing that too?"

She walked past them, but looking at their faces, and stormed upstairs. She slammed the door and let out the loudest scream she could. Then she didn't it again. She knew her grandparents could hear her, but at this point she just didn't care.

She cried as she curled up in her bed. She was so mad at everyone.

She was mad at Loki for making her do this.

She was mad at Thrym for wanting to marry her.

She was mad at her grandparents for yelling at her.

She was mad at Amir for trying to calm her down and understand.

She was mad at Magnus for going after the goat assassin which was probably part of the giants plan.

She was mad at her brother for punching her in the face.

And she was mad at her mom for dying.

She was basically just mad at the world.

Samirah wasn't sure how long she laid there, crying, curled up in bed, but when she got up, it was almost time for dinner in Valhalla. She walked to the bathroom and looked at her face.

Her hijab had fallen to one side, and her eyes were red. Other than that, she looked okay.  She readjusted her hijab and went downstairs, not bothering to go to the kitchen where she knew her grandparents would be.

"I'm going to the dinner in Valhalla!" She called before stepping out of the house.

By the time she got to the wall she has to fly over to reach Valhalla, Samirah was calmer. She could pretend it was fine.

She took a deep breath and flew to Hotel Valhalla.

So...sorry for the sad chapter. But not really.

I don't know what to say except this:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Ok. Bye.
