17| Same Difference? Are You Outta Your Dang Mind?

Picture above: Jordan Francis as Israel (Destiny's older brother by three years, making him 21)

Double update today because why not? :)

DESTINY

"Yo, I can't believe we fully got away with that!" Esmeralda said to her friends. "Your mum ain't as smart as she looks... no offence, Destiny."

Destiny & her girls had now escaped her house now, because her friends had managed to lie to Denise about where they were going.

But unbeknownst to Destiny...

Her mum knew that she wasn't going to where they said she was going and she was going somewhere else instead.

Denise didn't exactly know that Destiny was going to Same Difference tonight with her girls, but she knew for sure that Valentina's parents weren't having an anniversary party.

Israel had kind of figured this out too, to be honest, which he wanted to talk to Destiny about... but not right now.

"Nah, no offence taken, girl! Let's just enter your Cadillac and go to Same Difference before it's too late. Calista's right... the Cadillac won't drive itself. We finna go to Same Difference!"

All of her friends had cheered when they had heard that, going to Esmeralda's Cadillac at exactly the same time.

They had also kept singing 'now now now diva is a female version of a hustler' (as well as the rest of the song too) as they were making their way there, but as Destiny was about to make her way there, her older brother Israel had kind of called her back.

"Yo, Destiny!" He beckoned, shouting that from the top of his lungs in order for Destiny to hear him properly.

Israel was chilling near the wall by himself, texting someone, but he had stopped when he had realised that he needed to talk to his little sister about something.

Like Kiandre, Israel was quite introverted himself, but unlike Kiandre, a lot of girls liked him.

Denise taught her children to focus more on inner beauty than outer beauty because inner beauty was more important, and that was true.

So if Israel knew a pretty girl but that pretty girl was rude... then she definitely wasn't good for him.

Israel wouldn't have liked her.

Destiny in the meantime was just making her way over to Esmeralda's pink Cadillac to leave for Same Difference tonight, but when she had heard someone call her name, she knew she had to turn back as soon as she could.

She didn't know that Israel was calling her, that was until she turned around, and seeing him, waved at him and smiled brightly at him as well.

"Oh hey, Israel. Didn't see you there. What's up?"

"Can I talk to you in private for a sec real quick? It'll be fast. I promise."

Destiny didn't mind talking to Israel privately.

But now?

Now was probably the worst time for him to talk to her.

When Destiny had eventually realised what Israel had said to her, she was hesitant for a bit, because apparently the line to the Same Difference nightclub was crazy long and the earliest people had been in line for twenty minutes.

But then again... the nightclub wasn't even open yet to begin with.

Destiny knew that saying too, which didn't help much but it was what it was.

First come, first served.

"What? Now?"

"Yes, now."

"But I really have to go somewhere. Can't it wait or something?"

"No. No it can't."

But she didn't even say where she was going because she didn't want Israel to know.

Chances were, Israel would have probably reacted the same way as Priscilla had done, and Destiny did not want that at all.

Israel didn't say anything, he had just stared at Destiny hard, frowning intently at her.

He was initially studying, and like Kassandra, he was supposed to be in university right now but wasn't because it was the summer holiday.

Israel had a tendency to stare people down when he was annoyed at them in one way or the other. Destiny realised that he was staring at her hostilely, so she had therefore gone over to him, but she didn't tell her friends about this, making them confused.

"Yo, Destiny, are you not coming Same Difference with us?" Calista wanted to know.

"Yeah, I am, but my brother needs to talk to me about something real quick, apparently. He won't take long, I promise."

That was when she had dashed off to meet Israel, who was still waiting for her near the wall.

Her friends in the meantime had rolled up the top of the Cadillac because it looked as though it was about to rain, patiently waiting for Destiny.

Although if Destiny had taken twenty minutes or longer then they would have left without her & she would have had to make her way there herself.

Or just not go at all.

Not that that was a bad thing because Destiny didn't even want to go to the nightclub in the first place, but she knew better than to waste her girls' time as they were rather impatient.

Especially Esmeralda.

Did one expect any better?

"So, Israel, what did you want to talk to me about?" She wanted to know. "And make it quick. They're setting a twenty minute timer on me."

"Oh, no, you think we're talking here? No way, man. We're going somewhere else entirely. Follow me, lil sis."

When Destiny wanted to know why they couldn't have just stayed where they were, Israel said that her friends could have seen and heard them, and he didn't want them to do either of that.

Israel had then led his younger sister to the front of the garage, where neither Destiny's friends or any of their family members could have seen or heard them.

Denise could have seen both of them though.

There was actually a CCTV camera located in there because some criminals had tried to rob their garage earlier.

The doors were securely locked so the criminals couldn't have entered the house even if they wanted to, and the windows were shatterproof, very shatterproof.

Now if any criminals or trespassers had tried to enter their garage, or house in general, then the security alarm would have gone off and they would have gotten pepper sprayed.

Kind of happened to Destiny's friends earlier (because they came in without Denise's permission), but Denise wasn't in the house so she didn't realise this.

Israel was tall enough to switch off the CCTV camera, which was exactly what he had done just now.

"So what did you want to talk to me about that my friends couldn't know about?"

Israel made some deep eye contact with her before saying anything else, then he had frowned again.

"Now I know you ain't going to Valentina's parents' anniversary party today. So tell me the truth, Destiny. Where you really going?"

Oh.

Was that it?

Destiny kind of thought that they would have talked about Kiandre rejecting her, and Israel would have comforted her or what not.

Guess not.

"How... how do you know that I'm not going there?" Destiny stuttered, completely disregarding Israel's question.

Apparently, there were four main ways that Israel knew that Destiny wasn't going where she said she was going, including:

1) Valentina's parents absolutely hated parties (like Janette), so they would have therefore never have hosted one. They didn't mind going to parties however, but they just didn't like hosting them.

Too much work, plus they had feared that their party would have sucked and/or people wouldn't have turned up last minute. They did not want that- that would have been a waste of money for good.

2) Her parents weren't even in the country to begin with. They went on holiday to Fuerteventura aka some island in the Atlantic Ocean, and Valentina was staying over at her older brother & sister's house until they came back from holiday.

3) Their anniversary was two months ago now.. in fact just over two months ago now, and Israel didn't know anyone who had a party two months late.

Everyone would have most likely forgotten what the party would have about in the first place. Kind of like some funerals: some people died at 20 but they didn't get buried until they were like 75 or something.

And it was kind of ridiculously crazy.

It just didn't make any sense: unless one was suffering from some financial difficulties, then that was OK.

And 4) Israel had studied Valentina well enough to be able to identify the fact that when she was lying about something, her voice would have gotten an octave higher, which had happened before.

That was some legit logic right there.

"You've studied Valentina?"

"I've unconsciously studied all your friends to be honest, they come here often even though mum is strongly against it," Israel told her. "I know them inside and out, and I can also be able to identify when they're lying or telling the truth about something."

Apparently Janette would have twirled her hair when she was lying about something.

That had also kinda happened when she was talking to a guy she liked as well, but mainly the former.

Valentina was the octave thing that Israel had mentioned to his younger sister earlier.

Esmeralda would have blinked continuously.

Calista's voice would have gone an octave lower when she was lying about something.

And Destiny?

Destiny didn't lie so Israel didn't really know.

But when she did lie, she would have apparently half talked half sang, plus she would't have been able to make eye contact with anyone, especially someone of a higher authority than her.

"Dang, Israel! I didn't even notice those things. You like some detective or something!"

Israel laughed.

"For real though. Where you going? And in case you're wondering why I think I have a right to know, and I'm assuming you do, lemme tell you something. I accidentally overheard you and Priscilla talking to each other earlier about where you were going. I didn't hear exactly hear where you were going exactly, but I know you ain't going no anniversary party. Priscilla can barely keep secrets, and we both know it, plus I'm your older brother and I can keep secrets way better than Priscilla can. And if you can tell your younger sis where you going, then surely you can tell your older bro too."

He was right but what if he had reacted the same way?

Destiny had asked Israel if he could have kept the promise- as in if Destiny had told him where she was going then Israel couldn't have told anyone, especially their mum.

"I promise."

"You sure?"

Israel didn't say anything much, he had just kissed Destiny on the forehead before saying anything else.

"I promise, lil sis." He told her, staring into her eyes intently. "And I don't really mind where you're going to be honest. As long as you ain't going Same Difference or anything. That nightclub is the worst."

That was the issue.

Destiny was going Same Difference.

How did she say that to Israel without potentially freaking the guy out?

Destiny was staring at Israel hard, but she must not have realised this or something because Israel was confusingly looking at her, trying to get her attention again.

"You OK, Destiny? You look like I've just hypnotised you. Was it something I said?"

"I'm going Same Difference." Destiny blurted out without thinking. "No joke. I mean it."

As she had suspected, this made Israel become very annoyed at her, literally ranting at her to stay at home.

"Same Difference? Are you outta your dang mind? Do you want to get yourself drunk, Destiny? I'm most certainly not letting you set foot in that godforsaken nightclub. And that's final. End of discussion."
