Prologue
Inside the sewers of New York, a comfortable-looking lair of sorts remains hidden from the public eye. Gathered in the living room are ten figures, all teenagers. There's four turtles, all sporting different coloured masks and heights. Next to each turtle is a girl; a wolf-raven with curly brown hair, a tall cyborg with pure white hair and thin, silver circuit patterns lining her neck, collarbone, arms, and stomach, and two human girls, one with dark hair and hazel eyes and the other with blonde hair and blue-grey eyes. Near the four couples is another. This one has a boy in a black sweater and wearing a bandana around his unruly black hair and a girl who has red hair and freckles dotting her cheeks. She leans against him comfortably, her bright blue eyes almost sparkling.
"Donnie, pass the pizza!"
Donatello looks up from his computer, meeting the smiling and freckled face of his brother, Michelangelo. The purple-masked turtle smiles lightly, revealing the gap in his front teeth.
"Sure Mikey, whatever you need," he says, grabbing the box beside him and chucking it.
The orange-clad turtle catches it easily, spinning it and laughing. "Thanks D!"
"Mikey, some of us are trying to watch the movie," Leonardo scolds, his tone stern yet gentle.
Beside him, Destiny flaps her wings once and smirks, cuddling to his side.
"Relax a little, Leo. He's just being Mikey," she reminds him smoothly, tugging lovingly on his blue mask tails.
He chuckles and nudges her with his shoulder. "Yeah, I know."
"Well, Mikey being Mikey is making me miss the movie," Raphael grumbles, crossing his arms over his chest.
Taylor, his girlfriend, holds back a smile at his words and hugs his bicep, resting her head on his shoulder.
"How about you ask him nicely?" Sarina perks up, flicking her straight white hair over her shoulder as her eyes flash. "It could go a long way."
Nearby, from another bench, Casey laughs loudly at the idea. April, who has his arm around her shoulder, rolls her eyes at her boyfriend's outburst.
"Raph? Apologizing?" Casey asks, still grinning. "I'd like to see that!"
"Oh shush, Casey," Taylor snaps, but her tone is teasing.
Raph mutters something under his breath before looking to Mikey, who's still hopping around and humming about pizza dreams. He sighs heavily and bites his lip.
"Mikey, could you...please...sit down?" he asks slowly, wincing at the word "please".
"Sure thing, dude!" Mikey chirps, settling down next to his blonde girlfriend, Annalise.
"Don't hog all the pizza," Annalise demands, trying to get a slice from her boyfriend's grip.
The red-clad turtle fails to hide his look of shock at Mikey's obedience, and Sarina shoots him a look that says, "I told you so." He rolls his eyes, but a tiny smirk still fixes itself on his face. Annalise laughs and snuggles against Mikey's side as she finally nabs a slice of pizza.
"Perhaps you should utilize the pause button, my children," Splinter offers as he walks into the room, a large bowl of popcorn in his hands. "That way, we can start it once we're all together and settled."
"Good idea, Sensei!" Leo praises, pressing the button on the remote.
"Suck up," Raph grumbles.
Leo frowns, not having quite heard what his brother said. He looks to Destiny, smiling a tiny bit.
"Angel? Do you mind translating?" he asks sweetly.
She arches an eyebrow, but shrugs. "He called you a suck up. No big deal."
"No fair! She has wolf hearing!" Raph pouts.
"Guys, can we watch the movie now?" April asks.
"Yes please!" Mikey squeals.
Master Splinter takes the remote and presses play, the family lapsing into a comfortable silence as the movie starts. Donnie shuts his computer, yawning a little. Sarina rests her head on his shoulder, breathing deeply. As the movie starts up, the purple-masked turtle finds himself growing sleepier. He cracks another yawn, blinking his tired eyes.
"Princess?" he whispers.
"Mmhmm?" Sarina returns.
"I think I'm going to hit the hay early tonight."
She smiles. "Sure. Sleep well, okay?"
He pecks her forehead. "Of course."
He stands up, stretching a little. His family hardly notices his movements, their excited gazes completely enraptured by the flickering television.
"Goodnight guys," he calls.
"Night Don!" everyone choruses.
Destiny and April look away long enough to smile at the turtle, and he returns the gesture. Before he turns and heads to his room, Sarina stands up and takes his hand. She leans up and kisses him sweetly, pulling away after a moment.
"I love you," she says, as if to remind him of the fact.
"I love you too," he replies, his tone reflecting hers.
She smiles once more before turning around and sitting down on the couch, losing herself in the movie once again. Donnie turns and heads to his bedroom, the sounds of his family fading as he gets farther and farther away from them.
