Chapter 6: Losing Them Again

The dismal and dark sky hovering over New York almost looks like a sunny and cheerful sky next to the horrific gloom of the Shredder's palace. The symbol of the Foot is emblazoned everywhere, like a stamp to remind everyone who sees it that their overlord is inside, watching them. A skeletal dog, a pink fish with robot legs, and two big cat mutants wait outside at the gates, standing guard diligently.

Inside the massive building, the lithe form of a girl in a black suit marches forwards, her cold blue eyes focused straight ahead. A tantō blade is strapped to her hip, her white hair pulled up in a ponytail. She comes to a stop at the base of an absolutely ginormous throne, her face set as she kneels.

"Master Shredder, the Kraang have been obliterated," she reports, her voice hardly fluctuating. "Their technology has been distributed among your camps to make the weapons you require."

"Good, General Subject. My plan to take over the rest of America can be set in motion," a spine-chilling voice says from the throne.

Shredder squeezes the armrests of his oversized throne, his powerful exo-suit filled with numerous weapons and his height greatly increased by the machine. His eyes gaze down at the woman before him, the good one sparking with amusement.

"Then...I shall take over the world," he promises coldly.

"What is our next plan of action?" the cyborg that was once Sarina asks, her ponytail falling down her back as she straightens up.

Before Shredder can answer, an ear-splitting explosion sounds from behind them as a giant drill machine bursts from the floor. From it, five shapes leap out, readying their weapons as they face their two enemies. Donatello is inside a redesigned Turtle Mech, made for only one fighter. When he sees Sarina, he almost falters, but keeps a strong face and straightens up.

"Ready to play?" the purple-masked turtle calls.

"Turtles?!" Shredder roars.

"And the one known as Destiny," Sarina adds. If she could comprehend emotion again, a cruel smile would be crawling across her face.

"Dispose of them swiftly," her master orders.

"Too cowardly to fight us?!" Raphael demands, spinning his sais tauntingly.

The Shredder stands, extending his sharp blades as he laughs coldly.

"This is something I should've done thirty years ago. Now, I can finally end your pathetic lives!" he roars.

Sarina's eyes glow red as her palms start glowing. Donnie swallows the lump growing in his throat, wishing he could think of some way to stop her.

"Foot bot mutants, attack!" she orders, her jumpsuit powering up with a loud whirring sound.

Numerous Foot bots, all giant and obviously upgraded, stream from the side corridors. They unleash their oversized weapons and leap into battle.

"For Master Splinter!" Donnie shouts, setting off the guns mounted on the Mini-Turtle Mech's shoulders.

The attacking bots are shot to pieces as the turtle sweeps his guns across the expanse, shooting down enemy after enemy. Just as a few try to sneak up behind him, April leaps from the drill machine and fires off her bazooka, shooting down two of them before dashing off to keep fighting.

"Come on, we have to buy Donnie some more time!" Michelangelo shouts, his shell to Raphael's as he swings his nunchuck with a one-handed grip.

They nod and attack the bots together, fighting with vigour and strength. Nearby, Leonardo turns to Destiny and pulls her into an urgent kiss, enjoying her warm embrace.

"I love you," he murmurs.

"I love you too," she responds, smiling weakly. "Let's go kick some shell."

He smiles. "That's my girl."

They launch into battle, wielding their swords expertly. Meanwhile, Mikey twists and kicks and punches at the Foot bot mutants surrounding and towering all around him.

Suddenly, he finds himself trapped. There's no way out, his baby blue eyes growing wide as the bots bring themselves ever closer, blades shining.

He knows that this is it. He isn't getting out of this. Yet, somehow, he doesn't feel sad. He only drops his nunchucks and smiles for the first time in a long time.

Don't worry, cupcake. I'll see you soon, he thinks.

He looks at the last gap available in the ever pressing group, seeing Donnie fighting bravely. His purple-masked brother notices him, his face growing instantly terrified.

Mikey nods once, and the bots attack, slicing across his body with their massive weapons. The air leaves him in one last scream, his body growing heavy as he collapses to the ground, his blood pooling around him as he shuts his eyes forever.

"MIKEY!" Donnie screams.

Leo, Raph, and Destiny all spin to face the spot as the bots disperse to rejoin the fight, leaving the fallen turtle on the ground.

"NO!" Destiny screams, agonized.

The two other brothers can't even speak, their hearts shattering all over again. Raph is the first to react again.

"SHREDDER! YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!" he shouts, sprinting back into the battle with his sais flashing.

Donnie launches the Turtle Mech towards the Mega-Shredder, russet gaze blazing as he fires off his guns.

"I will end you!" he threatens, his voice straining.

The bullets repeatedly hit the man, creating clouds of dust and smoke as he's hit again and again, Donnie screaming the entire time. Then, he stops, the smoke obscuring his vision.

A hand emerges from the fog and grabs the turtle by his Mech's arm, tugging him towards his scarred face and holding him there.

"Thirty years and that's all you can muster?" he mocks, his eyes cruel. "You are worthless!"

Shredder tears the arms off and kicks Donnie away, sending him flying into a nearby wall and landing hard on the Mech's metal shell. Still, he groans, trying to find the strength to keep going. Destiny and Raph keep holding off the Foot, trying to ignore the pain of their recent loss.

"General, join the fight!" Shredder commands.

Sarina nods, powering up her rocket boots and zooming into the midst of the fight. She attacks Leo, firing lasers at him that he actually manages to dodge, blocking some with his sword.

"If you're gonna fight, fight like a ninja," he growls, gritting his teeth as he readies his single katana.

Sarina drops down and readies her tantō, her eyes flashing dangerously. She lunges at Leo, but he fights back, shocked to see that she's learned ninjutsu since he last saw her. Perhaps Shredder felt her powers weren't good enough on their own.

"Give up. It's futile to battle us," she says monotonously, slicing at the blinded turtle swiftly.

"Sarina, this isn't you. Please," he begs, still fighting back as best he can manage.

She swings around, kicking him in the gut and sending him to the floor. He lets out a short yell of pain, making Destiny spin around to face him. She tries to dash over and help, but Foot bots get in her way and derail her attention.

Leo gets back to his feet, blocking yet another one of Sarina's attacks. He cuts and slashes, finally gaining the upper hand and placing a well aimed kick to her stomach. She collapses, rolling away with a grunt of surprise.

"I'm sorry it had to be this way, Sarina," he says solemnly as he moves to her. "You'll always be my sister, and I hope you'll forgive me one day."

He raises his katana to strike her down, but a Foot bot comes up behind him with its sword at the ready. At the last second, the turtle swings around and cuts through the bot, taking it down. He pants heavily, trying to find the strength to keep going.

Sarina pushes herself to her feet, powering her lasers up and aiming for his shell. Destiny takes down the last of her direct opponents, seeing what's about to happen.

"LEO!" she cries out.

He doesn't have time to turn around before Sarina fires, the powerful blast hitting him right in the back. He screams, collapsing forwards onto his knees. Sarina stands, her fingertips glowing as she fires off five more rounds into his back, and he gasps before falling onto his plastron, his sunglasses clattering away from him.

"LEO! NO!" Raph shouts.

Destiny stumbles, feeling her heart shatter all over again as she grips her chest. It can't be. He can't be gone. She just got him back.

Raph roars, rushing at Sarina with his sais at the ready. She turns, unfazed by his advance, and powers up two more blasts from her palms. Destiny sees this, her eyes widening.

"Raph! Don't do it!" she warns, her voice breaking.

Too late, Sarina fires and the two blasts of energy hit Raph, sending him sailing through the air and landing hard on the ground. He stumbles to his knees, coughing and groaning, right near where Leo's still form still lays.

Destiny snaps out of the trance she found herself in. She rushes to her red-clad brother, catching him before he collapses. His green eyes are already clouded with pain, his breaths quick and hoarse.

"Des..." he croaks.

Her eyes fill with tears as she cradles his head. "Raph...oh no...no..."

"Des...I'm..." he repeats, his face twisted in agony.

"It's okay, Raph. You're okay," she whispers. "You and Leo, you'll see Mikey again soon, okay?"

"I'm...sorry..."

His one eye shuts and he lets his last breath leave his body. Destiny lowers him to the ground, her hands shaking as her vision blurs with tears and she gently brushes his lightning chip in his plastron.

"No...no..." she pleads. "Not you too..."

She looks up at Sarina, who still doesn't register any kind of emotion. The wolf-girl pushes herself to her feet, feeling her body become weakened from grief as she stands between the love of her life and one of her considered brothers.

"How...how dare you," she croaks, her face streaked with her tears. "You were our family...you murdered them."

Sarina only blinks. "It was the will of the Shredder. My mission is not yet complete."

Her eyes flash as she prepares for battle again. Destiny doesn't move, unable to make herself function.
