After eating breakfast Miss  Nightjar said we were going to town. "The girls may put on there simple dresses and shawls and the boys may put on there collared shirts and overalls." She said. I ran to my room to put on my dress. It was black with white trimming on the collar and sleeves and had white buttons going all the way down. My shawl was a midnight blue with a pearly white button clasping it together. I pulled my hood over my head and walked downstairs. We had to wear a hood just in case. Esme was in a light blue dress indentical to mine. Her shawl was white. We both looked ahead as Miss Nightjar announced the instructions. "Everybody 11 & younger must be with a child 12 or older." She said. She passed out bags to each group and said to carry your purchases in them. She led us all into town where we split up. Suddenly a large man pulled me back by the hood of my shawl. I could smell liquor in his beard and gagged. He asked me were my parents were and I said " There" and pointed to Miss Nightjar. He released me and walked away. I pulled back up my hood and walked to a stand of apples. Esme said "I want one!" So I took a two dollars out of my pocket and gave it to the vendor who in return gave me two apples. Me and Esme snacked on our crunchy treats as we looked at the other stands. I bought Esme a white cloak and a midnight blue one for me. I bought Esme a doll and a blanket. I bought myself bracelet and a dress. When Miss Nightjar called us back we ran over to her. She had a worried expression on her face and was looking around frantically. She said to us "Cody said he thought he saw a wight so we will go home early." I heard some shrieks and groans as she relayed this message. We all walked back to the house and put our purchases in our rooms. I felt someone pull against my collar and fell to the ground. I looked up into the cold blank eyes of the wight before me.
