Chapter 3 | Concern

''There are already a few men spread over the village to protect it from damage that can be caused by fragments of the moon, but I also want you two to go to the place I assign you to,'' Kakashi said with a stern expression. There was no trace of playfulness on his face. Kaira had never seen him this serious, and she swallowed thickly when he turned his gaze to her. ''Kaira, I know you barely trained since you came here, so it's understandable if you refuse to do this.''

Kaira nodded, still thinking about what to do. It was her chance to help out, but she was clearly out of shape. It's not like she really needed to fight though.

''So you want us to protect certain parts of the village?'' Izuna asked, summarizing everything Kakashi had said up till now.

The Hokage merely nodded in response and looked out of the window. ''I'll be near the Hokage Rock. From there, we can see everything coming and we'll also be able to destroy them.'' He explained. ''But to be sure, we want to have as much as possible potential people in the village to protect it if we fail to destroy all of it.''

''We'll do it,'' Kaira said, and then glanced at Izuna. ''Or at least I'll try it. I don't know my strength at the moment, but I'll just use my Susanoo.''

''I'm also in,'' Izuna grinned, feeling already excited. Kaira rolled her eyes at his behavior and sighed. She knew that even though he loved fighting, which was his main reason for joining in, he still took this mission seriously. He needed to. This was one of the few chances they were given to prove themselves. There were quite a lot of people who disapproved of them living in Konoha. It was understandable, but it still troubled them. Izuna had even cut his long hair so he wouldn't resemble Madara so much anymore. It was still pretty long though, but it came nowhere near the length of their father's hair.

''We're starting to evacuate every citizen of the Land of Fire to the air-raid shelter. Suki offered to help out with that so that's why she won't be joining you.'' Kakashi explained. ''You should probably go explain the situation to her so she wouldn't worry if she doesn't see the two of you.''

Kaira and Izuna both shook their heads in agreement. ''Where are we supposed to go after that?'' Izuna asked.

Kakashi turned his face away from the window and waved at his assistant. She nodded and took out two scrolls and gave them to Izuna and Kaira. ''I want you to protect these areas. They're relatively big but we expect that only small parts of the meteors we'll destroy will fall in these areas.''

Kaira opened her scroll and saw a map of Konoha. the place surrounded by a red circle was the area she was supposed to protect. After looking at her scroll, she took a peek at Izuna's one. It made her feel a bit uncomfortable when she saw that he had to go to the other side of the village.

''If you have any more questions, ask now because I need to get ready before the meteorites get here.''

''I have no questions, Hokage-sama,'' Kaira said as she rolled the scroll up.

Izuna grinned. ''No problemo, sir.''

Kaira kneeled in front of Daichi and put her hands on his small shoulders. She already felt guilty for leaving him with someone again, and his expression didn't make her feel any better. ''Stay with Sayuri, okay?'' She told him sternly, but she tried to add a little smile, hoping to reassure him. ''Don't get lost in the crowd, so keep holding her hand.''

Daichi looked disappointed and so confused, and of course he'd be confused. He didn't know what was going on, and explaining it to him would be hard.

''Mommy too?"

Kaira smiled sadly and wiped a few strands of his hair out of his face, making his eyes more visible. She had always loved his big dark eyes. ''I have to help out here.'' She tried to explain. ''But it's too dangerous for you, so you have to go with Sayuri.''

Daichi obviously didn't want to. He wasn't happy with what Kaira said and Kaira understood his feelings, but it just couldn't be helped right now. She often gave Daichi to other people to look after him and Daichi obviously didn't like that.

''Just think about what the two of us are going to do soon, okay?'' Kaira said, attempting to change the subject. ''Maybe Sayuri has some good ideas.''

Daichi nodded and Kaira pulled him into a hug, holding him tightly. Daichi wasn't the only one that felt bad about this. It also pained Kaira. She actually didn't want to depend on so many people like Sayuri and Yuuji. It gave her the feeling she didn't have what it meant to be a responsible mother, but she didn't have a choice.

''Listen to Sayuri, okay?'' Kaira whispered as she stroked his back softly.

Daichi nodded again and Kaira pulled away. Sayuri was already standing at the door, ready to take Daichi with her to the shelter. After saying their goodbye's, Daichi left the house and went with Sayuri to join the rest of the village.

''I also have to go right now,'' Suki said. ''I need to check if nobody is left behind here. Be careful, the two of you.''

''You too.'' Kaira said, and Suki gave her a reassuring smile before she also left the house. Izuna sighed once she was gone. ''Everybody is pretty tensed up, huh?"

''You should also be,'' Kaira grunted. ''The whole situation is pretty serious, you know? And without Naruto here, the people are even more anxious.''

Izuna hummed and put on his gloves. ''We'll just have to take over his job, right?''

Kaira bit her lip and grabbed Izuna's arm. ''Izuna, please don't underestimate this. You'll get yourself hurt.''

Izuna grinned slyly. ''Ahh, you're worried about me?''

''Of course I am!'' Kaira snarled, feeling quite frustrated. She knew he was just playing with her, but it just really wasn't the right time to fool around. ''You're my brother! I'm worried about everyone!''

Izuna's smile faded a bit, but it didn't disappear. ''Hey hey, calm down.'' He murmured, giving her shoulder a pat. ''It'll be fine.''

Kaira clenched her fists. ''Just be careful, okay?''

''I may look like I'm playing around but I'm always careful.'' Izuna said, and then he opened his arms. The sly grin reappeared. ''Do I also get a hug?''

Kaira couldn't help but crack a smile and wrapped her arms around Izuna's neck. ''Idiot.'' She whispered into his shirt.
