Chapter 28 | Location

Daichi explained the situation for the second time, but this time to the leader of the medical team that came to treat the gate guards. A number have onlookers had gathered around them, anxiously watching. Their murmers interrupting Daichi now and then.

His impatience grew and grew, but it certainly didn't help speed up the conversation. When he was finally done, and the leader thanked him before turning to the gate guards, Daichi made a move to get away from the crowd. He pushed himself past the onlookers, and just when he was about to leave the village to go after that woman, a call made him stop.

''Daichi!''The young Uchiha groaned and turned around, seeing Naruto and Sasuke approach him. Before either of them could speak, Daichi quickly made his point. ''I don't have time to explain again.'' He spoke, the impatience making him sound rude. ''Ask Suki or the medical team.''

Sasuke grabbed his arm when Daichi made another move to leave. ''And what are you going to do?''

Daichi's voice began to shake. ''After the woman who did this!'' He grunted as he tried to pull himself away from his father. ''I can still find her!''

He couldn't waste even more time. He had waited for the medical team to arrive, he had explained the situation to the team.. He didn't have time for this, for giving another explanation!

If his speculations were true, Kaira was in danger.

''You're not allowed to move out on your own, remember?'' Naruto spoke sternly. ''I'll send out a search team.''

''That would take too much time!'' Daichi argued. He didn't care if he was being rude, he needed to make his point clear. ''If that woman is the one who is after my family, then I won't sit still and let her go after my own mother right now!''

Sasuke frowned. ''You think she is the one who poisoned Izuna and stabbed Yuuji?''Daichi nodded, forcefully pulling his arm out of his father's grip. ''That's why I have no time to chat right now, I'm going!''

Daichi turned around and hurried after the woman, who had already a huge head start.

Naruto looked at Sasuke, wanting to tell him to go with him, but Sasuke spoke first. ''I'm going, too.''

Kaira grunted as she stepped back in surprise after an object came flying her way. Nearly stumbling, she held onto a branch of a small tree to keep her balance. Her head tingled, but this time it wasn't the headache that was bothering her.

She brought her hand to her temple, and her eyes widened when she saw blood on her fingertips. ''What the...'' More alert now, Kaira dodged the next kunai more easily.

Confused and enraged, she caught the third one and threw it back into the direction it came from. She did not like the game this person was playing with her at all.

''Come out already, you coward!'' She yelled.

Kaira wondered if she should be afraid, because she did not feel any fear at all. Perhaps it was because her anger and frustration outbalanced her anxiety. She just wanted to go home, not play around with kunais in a damn forest.

Kaira realised very well that this person could be the person that was after her siblings and her. The one who got both Izuna and Yuuji in the hospital. That thought infuriated her. While she was not at her strongest at the moment, she knew the other person wasn't exactly powerful either. People who are confident in their own power and capabilities would face an enemy head-on.

This person was just throwing kunais at her from afar.

Kaira would have used one of her fire release techniques already to get her attacker out of their hiding spot, but the chance of one of the leaves or trees catching fire was too big. She did not want the forest to burn down.

It was silent for a moment, and Kaira slowly looked around her, waiting for the other person to make a move. She wanted to use her Sharingan to find this coward, but knew that using it might disadvantage her if this person decided to keep bothering her.

Pain that wouldn't allow her to open her eyes for a while again, for example.

It was a possibility, it didn't necessarily have to happen. Kaira was seriously considering to take this risk. Her patience was running out, and she didn't really feel like playing hide and seek. The only question that made Kaira hesitate was whether it'd be worth it to take this risk.

If it all went wrong, she'd be at a huge disadvantage.

Groaning in frustration, she decided to use her normal eyes for a bit longer.

Kaira looked over her shoulder when she heard leaves rustling, only to realise it was the wind when strands of her hair were blown from behind her ear across her face. Hastily and thus clumsily, she put them back behind her ear to get a better vision of her surroundings.

Her annoyance flared when the wind picked up, and her eyes shot from the left to the right. She clutched her stomach when she started feeling sick. This person was driving her mad. Kaira wondered if this was their intention; making her go crazy. Or perhaps this person just really was a coward.

Her headache returned, her vision started swirling. Kaira knew that winding herself up when she was still recovering was not a good idea, but she couldn't help it. The anger wasn't alone anymore as the fear started kicking in. She was going insane. It was scary not knowing where this person was, what they were going to do next. Was this all a joke?

Kaira clenched her fists and she shakily exhaled. She took a few more breaths, trying to calm herself, but to no avail. Altho she could see clearly again, the racing thoughts in her head didn't stop, worsening her headache.

The strong wind and her dulled senses and skills weren't making it any easier for her. Leaves around her rustled in the blowing air, meaning the target could move around without being detected by ear.

Kaira had no choice left. Waiting for the other person to make the first move again was useless. She had to make the first move herself. Gritting her teeth, she closed her eyes and awakened her new Sharingan.

The pain that came along with it made her posture falter for a moment.

It was in this short moment of weakness that her attacker made their move.

When Kaira regained her stance, her eyes widened in realization once she became aware of not only the face of the assaulter, but also the location. Kaira looked over her shoulder and their eyes locked.

She was right behind her.
