I wrote this in less than an hour

This is a story I had to write for Ry's Discord Comps, like an hour before the story was due. Wish me luck.

Anyway

To the knowledge of the 99.999% of Earth's human population, there existed no other life aside from them. To their knowledge, they were deeply alone in a cold, uncaring universe.

However, the remaining .001% knew differently. .001% of Earth's humans knew- well, suspected, really- that somewhere out in the universe existed other life; moreover, they suspected this life could be intelligent as well. And because humans are curious bastards by nature, a group of humans was created for the very purpose of finding said intelligent life.

The Planetarium recruited only a small group of people for this expedition- 10 total. It was determined that the group would be split evenly to form two smaller groups that would each venture into the deep unknown, albeit in opposite directions. The Head of Command would not be attending, merely watching and comming from the Planetarium; if anyone needed them, they would be there to help.

And so the ten members met as a group for the first time.

"Heyyyyy Salix, long time no see," Andrew grinned. "Had no idea you'd be a part of this whole deal. I thought you were done with this sort of thing. Ya know, after the whole deal with Glitch taking over the world temporarily."

Salix snorted, then gave a small grin in response. "Are you kidding? I was born for this sort of thing. Although, honestly, I wouldn't have known about this if not for Todd."

"Ah, Todd," Venn walked up behind Andrew. "The old king of Radish Land. Haven't seen the guy in a while. Andrew, Salix." He dipped his head at the two, a little warily in Salix's case. "So he's gonna be here too?"

"Among other people you already know," Todd joined them, grinning crookedly as he was followed by yet another very familiar figure.

"Ay Salix, Venn," Blue saluted with a slightly suspicious grin. "Haven't seen either of you since Salix helped Glitch take over the world."

"Nice to see you too, Blue," Salix rolled her eyes. "Glad to see you're acknowledging Andrew as well."

"Glad to see you finally stopped moping about helping a tyrannical overlord take over the entire planet," Blue shot her finger guns, and she merely sighed in exasperation. "Also nice to see that you got over it fast enough to give a half-assed effort at trapping us all inside of a murder mansion. That was really something."

"For God's sake," Salix muttered while Venn snickered and Andrew looked a little confused. "That was over a year ago."

"Just saying," Blue raised his hands innocently.

Todd shrugged. "He's not wrong, tho."

"Anyway," Salix ignored the two, "is there anybody else we know here?"

"I saw Aj earlier," Andrew mentioned. "And Todd and Blue talked to me about someone joining, I think you know him pretty well."

"Well, now I'm curious," Salix said. "Who is it?"

"It's only our Lord and Savior," Blue started out, grinning. Salix grimaced as Todd joined in, "Almighty Ryan Christ!"

"Hi, Salix," Ryan greeted her, holding out his hand to shake.

Salix gave a half grin and shook his hand. "Hey Ryan. Been a while."

"It has," Ryan agreed. "I'm so excited to become friends with everyone here."

"He brought some friends of his own too," Todd added. "We don't know any of them, but I don't think they're with our group."

"Where do we find out about the groups, anyway?" Venn asked. "And does anybody know who's in charge of this whole thing?"

"It's me," a startlingly familiar voice spoke suddenly over the P.A. Salix's jaw dropped, and Venn and Todd even looked moderately surprise.

"Ry?!" Salix exclaimed. "You're dead, I literally stabbed you!"

None of them could see Ry, but they felt her shrug nonetheless. "My death was greatly exaggerated."

"What the fuck," Salix whispered maniacally to herself as Ry continued to speak.

"Todd, Salix, Aj, Ryan, Venn, you're in group one," Ry informed them. "Everyone else is in group two.

"As soon as you get inside your ship, you will all be put into stasis lock for the duration of your journey. This is for the discretion of any life we may find, you understand. When you arrive, you'll all wake up. You'll find instructions from me regarding further action."

Group one exchanged looks and shrugged as they were directed to their ship via glowing arrows. They filed inside and sat down in the seats in the common room.

"Everyone is safely secured into their ships, so I will induce stasis lock." Salix's vision blurred as she felt her body go numb and her mind begin to drift. "It should have no ill effects on any of you, although you will be feeling sleepy and out of it right now. Stick to the mission. Don't compromise anything with the ships or each other. Stick together and avoid any unnecessary contact with anything you may find, as we know next to nothing about whatever is out there.

"Good luck."

That was the last thing Salix heard before her world became nothing.
