Chapter 5: The Mirror Yokai
(O.D.D.- Hehe...okay, so I noticed a few comments saying , 'Where did Hayato and Takeshi go?' And I was like: ლ(๑•ૅㅁ•ლ๑). HOW COULD I FORGET THEM!? Anyways, the Storm and Rain Guardians will be able to have the spotlight in this chapter. Please enjoy. *Whispers* I honestly wanted to write a bada** moment for Reborn so that's why he went with Tsuna alone in the Umewakamaru chapter. (;ω;))
"Oh mio Dio! Mukuro-kun and Kyoya-kun are at it again?" (My God!)
Tsuna spoked into his phone rapidly, trying to understand the situation with Chrome, who was still at Namimori with the others. The Decimo did his best to keep his voice down since it was so early in the morning. He paced back an forth within the guest room, feeling the eyes of Hayato and Takeshi following him nervously. Reborn was polishing his black gun, unconcerned about his student's worry.
"Ah...Boss, it's not exactly that bad, but I think it would be best for Mukuro-nii-sama and I to come earlier to lessen the fights."
Tsuna pinched the bridge of his nose and slowly nodded, turning to glance at his Storm and Rain as he continued to speak with Chrome.
"...I understand. Okay, please get a flight when you can, and if Mukuro-kun is reluctant," Tsuna narrowed his gaze and huffed. "Drag him over here anyways. I can't always deal with my First Mist and Cloud's ridiculous reasons to fight."
Chrome giggled softly.
"Understood, Boss. I will call you again when I have the tickets ready."
"Thank you Chrome-chan. Stay safe."
Tsuna smiled fondly before ending the call. He sighed deeply as he dropped his arm to his side, falling backwards onto the tatami mat, his phone held loosely in his hand. He soon rolled onto his front, muffling his voice as he groaned loudly.
"Hm huuna phie hmm hmmph hmhph hhmmmhph hmmm!" (I'm gonna die from stress before anyone arrives!)
Reborn scoffed as he checked his gun, shutting one eye as he shifted his weapon at an angle. The raven-haired teen muttered back in reply.
"Quite your whining, Dame-Tsuna. You're the Boss of your Famiglia, so act like one." The said brunet flailed his arms and legs for a while before going still, and Reborn raised an eyebrow at the sudden change of mood. "Have you finally died from stupidity, Dame-Tsuna?"
Tsuna lifted his head to scowl at Reborn--I hate you sometimes, you little sh**--before sighing, raising a hand to clutch his head, his other arm propping himself up slightly.
"...Something's up, guys." Tsuna grimaced as he finally sat up properly, looking over at his Rain and Storm. "Hayato-kun, Taskeshi-kun, please be on guard today. Reborn, please watch over the place when we go to school."
Reborn muttered a 'Sure', while Takeshi laughed and Hayato nodded earnestly.

<<(Arriving at School)>>
"Kana-chan? Are you alright...?"
Tsuna turned his head to see Rikuo, in his day-form of course, fretting slightly over the said girl, which Tsurara puffed her cheeks out at. Kana looked a bit tired, slight bags under her eyes, making her smile look a little dim. Despite Rikuo's concern, she merely laughed and waved a hand in the air.
"It's nothing, really! I just had a bad sleep is all."
Tsuna narrowed his gaze slightly, and turned his gaze elsewhere, sensing something amiss as Rikuo's other friends also commented on how tired Kana looked. The brunet caught a strange glint out of the corner of his eye and turned his head slightly to look. He.....He stared at the strange, ghostly circle that was reflected in one of the street mirrors.
It had a wide, unnerving grin stretched across his face, mist circling his body as he moved within the mirror. Tsuna blinked slowly and turned his head away, rubbing his eyes before looking back. The being was gone from the mirror, and Tsuna slowly slapped his forehead, groaning mentally.
'It's way too early for this.'
~~
<<(Lunch Time)>>
Kana huffed as she looked through a pair of binoculars as she watched Tsurara and Rikuo take out the trash, chewing her bottom lip with frustration as she muttered to herself.
"I don't get who Oikawa-chan is....! She came put of nowhere and she's....fawning over Rikuo-kun? Are they friends, siblings? Lovers....!?"
"Kana-chan, what are you doing?"
Kana jerked her head up to look over her shoulder to see Saori, who lifted an amused eyebrow at the said brunette, snickering softly when she walked over to rail to see what Kana was looking at. The blonde squinted her eyes as she tried to follow Kana's line of sight.
"Ah? Isn't that Nura?" She seemed to hum thoughtfully before grinning mischievously. "Oh-ho~? Do you have some interests in him or something, hm~?"
Kana blushed and flailed around, careful to not drop her binoculars as she looked at Saori.
"I-I-It's nothing like that! Rikuo-kun just forgot his glasses at that time we went on our little trip on the mountain! I was just...looking for him and stuff..."
Saori nodded, smirk still present while Natsumi giggled. Kana huffed indignantly while crossing her arms, she then noticed the presence of Kiyotsugu, Jiro, Hayato and Takeshi. She inclined her head when a certain brunet was missing from the group.
"Eh? Where's Tsuna-kun?"
Hayato and Takeshi glanced at each other, a hidden message shared between them before the Rain spoke up, grinning widely at her.
"Ah, Tsuna needed to take a bathroom break..." The ravenet scratched the back of his head, looking to side to mutter slightly. "Or that's what he said...."
"Huh?"
"Nothing, nothing~! Haha!" Takeshi waved a hand dismissively in the air before grinning brightly. "By the way, I heard it was your birthday!"
Hayato and Takeshi noticed how she stiffened slightly at the mention of her birthday before smiling a bit.
"Oh, yeah..." She then stood up from the ground and dusted the front of her uniform off. "How did you know, Takeshi-kun?"
The ravenet simply gestured to Kiyotsugu and the others, smiling sheepishly.
"Sorry for not knowing sooner."
Kana smiled nervously and waved both of her hands in front of her.
"Aaah, it's alright, Takeshi-kun. You're new here, so you wouldn't know, and--uh...Kiyotsugu-kun? What's that in your hands?"
The said teen grinned proudly as he pushed the wrapped box into her hands.
"It's your present, Ienaga!" Kana slowly ripped off of the wrapping and opened the box. "Surely you'll be amazed by what you have received from me!"
Kana widened her eyes at the...thing in the box. She swallowed a yelp of surprise at how nightmarish the doll looked, resisting the urge to throw it onto the rooftop floor. Kana tugged it out of the box and looked at Kiyotsugu helplessly, not understanding what the doll-like thing was.
"Oh, um...thank you?"
"It's a yokai doll!" Kiyotsugu elaborated for her while she blinked in realization. "I thought you would like something inspiring for our yokai research as a team for your birthday!"
Kana quirked a smile at the other, putting the doll back into the box before walking over to her bag to put the toy inside it.
'Well, it's the thought that counts...even though it looks creepy...' 'Thank you, Kiyotsugu-kun."
"No problem!"
~~
//(End of School)//
Kana sighed as she walked down the stairs, rubbing her shoulder. She glanced anxiously behind herself, feeling as if...someone was watching her...
'Haah, staying behind to help clean up...maybe it wasn't a good idea...' She finally exited the school, glancing at it for a moment and inclining her head thoughtfully. 'Tsuna-kun didn't return in the other classes...maybe he got sick...'
She shook her head and sighed, turning around to walk away from the school, muttering to herself.
"Maybe Tsuna-kun's at home by now with Rikuo-kun..."
She had walked for about ten minutes, feeling a bit uneasy. Kana kept glancing over her shoulder, as if expecting something to come out and grab her. She was a bit paranoid ever since this morning. Kana furrowed her eyebrows, looking ahead of herself now. Her dream abou--
"Kaaanaaa-chaaan~"
She froze and immediately whipped her head around, sucking in a sharp breath. The ghostly voice that had reached her ears was the very same one that haunted her most recent dreams.
There was a squeak of wheels as a bike rolled down the road she was walking on, but that wasn't what shot fear into Kana's heart.
"Kaaaanaaa-chaaaan~!" A silver disc-like yokai misted into existence onto the bike, grinning unnervingly in her direction. "It's time to plaaaaaaay~!"
Kana choked down a whimper and immediately started running.
'Aaaah! Why did I stay back to help! Stupid, stupid, stupid, stu--ah!' The yokai was suddenly drifting in front of her, causing her to widen her eyes in shock. 'When did he--?! He was behind me a few seconds ago--no, no time for that! I need to keep running!'
"Don't run away, Kaaanaaa~! I waited so long for this moment. I even had to deal with a brat along the way," Kana glanced over her shoulder at that. "He almost ruined my plaaaans~hehehe~!"
Kana had a sinking feeling in her stomach.
'He couldn't be talking about...!' She shook her head and continued to run. 'No, I'm sure Tsuna-kun is safe at home with Rikuo-kun!'
Suddenly, a flash of bright light invaded her sight. Kana yelped and shielded her eyes. When the light died down, she lowered her arms and slowly cracked her eyes open before widening them in surprise.
'I'm...back at the school!?'
"K...a...n...a....!"
The brunette froze and slowly looked at her bag, hearing the staticky voice coming from it. With a shaky hand, she unzipped it and looked into her bag. Her eyes were quickly drawn to the...doll that Kiyotsugu had given to her as a present; it was slightly sticking outside of the box.
'...D-Did the...yokai posses it!?'
She grabbed it cautiously, prepared to throw it down the stairs if it was possessed.
"Gzz...t.....Kaa..na..a....Kan..a! Ienaga! Hey, can you hear me!? It's me, Kiyotsugu!"
Kana blinked her eyes in surprise as she stared at the doll.
"K-Kiyotsugu-kun!?"
"Haha! Hello, Ienaga! I'm sure you're surprised by my voice coming from this doll!" She briefly heard Saori, Jiro, Natsumi, Rikuo and Yura in the background. "Here's the second special part to your birthday present! There's a walkie talkie inside of the doll so we can now communicate abou--!"
"Ah, Kiyotsugu-kun! I'm sorry, but I don't have time for this! There's a yokai chasing me a-and--!"
"K-Kaaanaaa....it's so cramped in here....I can't play with you this way...."
Said girl stiffened and whipped her head around frantically. She couldn't tell where the yokai was before glancing at her bag, where a muffled groan made itself known in the silent staircase she was on.
She hurriedly unzipped her bag to see if the yokai was in there. She yelped when she saw the being within her hand mirror, a sad frown on his face.
"Kaaanaaa, it's too stuffy..."
"Ienaga? Did you say yokai? Where are you!? What's wrong!? I thought I heard something from your side!"
Kana quickly threw her mirror out of her bag, hearing it clatter on the side. Suddenly, another white light flashed across her eyes. Kana winced, forced to shut her eyes at the blinding light once more.
This time, she immediately snapped them open, not caring that a few white spots dotted her vision--she needed to know where she was. The brunette froze when she caught sight of large mirrors on the wall.
'A bathroom? Wait...the mirrors! Oh, this is really bad!' She darted towards the door of the school bathroom she was in, scrambling to grab her bag along the way. She lifted the doll a little closer to her face so she could talk through it. "I think I'm currently in the boy's bathroom at the school and I--EEEEK!"
"Ienaga!? Argh, guys, let's go!"
She was suddenly yanked back, forced to drop her things. Misty limbs held her close and she felt a chill go through her body.
"--et her go, you oversized frisbee!"
"Grah, what was that, you little brat!?"
Kana felt the misty limbs around her loosen slightly. She peeked her eyes open and saw a familiar brunet; he wasn't a certain Nura though.
Tsuna had an annoyed--yet he looked playful, Kana thought--frown on his lips, lifting an eyebrow at the mirror-yokai challenging.
"Tsuna-kun!?"
The said brunet raised a hand at her, sending an awkward wave to her.
"Uh, hi...?"
"I haven't seen you at all today," She replied with slight worry, glancing nervously at the mirror-yokai that still had her in its grasp. "Was this where you've been!? Inside of a bathroom mirror!?"
Tsuna shrugged, laughing sheepishly.
"Ah, I...was a bit distracted..." 'I let my guard down. Hoo~boy, Reborn won't be happy...'
Kana then yelped when she felt an icy feeling crawled up her arm and she spared a glance to the said limb and widened her eyes with fear. Her arm was sinking into the body of the mirror-yokai. However, she was quickly pulled away from the icy coolness as soon as she looked at her limb. She turned around and saw that Tsuna was there, pulling her away to put some distance between her and the yokai.
The brunet placed himself in front of Kana, eyes narrowed at the mirror-yokai. The misty circle merely sneered at the Decimo, making himself larger in response.
"Once again, you're ruining my fun with Kana, you brat!"
Tsuna inclined his head at that. Just then, they heard voices on the other side of the mirror-world. Kana was happy to see Kiyotsugu and the gang--Hayato and Takeshi included--there, but her hope diminished when they didn't seem to notice her and Tsuna. The group seemed confused, calling for her before exiting the bathroom.
However, her hope returned slightly when Hayato and Takeshi halted at the door. Hayato and Takeshi turned to look directly at the mirrors. The Rain Gaurdian was the first to break the silence.
"Haha! Yo, Tsuna! We we're getting worried of where you went and all...did you learn a new trick?"
Hayato face-palmed, dragging his fingers down his face with an exasperated groan. He took a few calming breaths, remembering how Tsuna wanted him to try and restrain himself from getting angry too quickly.
"Sword-idiot, he's n--...you know what. It's been almost a year and a half since I've met you. I can't deal anymore with your bullsh**, so shut the f**k up so we can help Tsuna-sama out of there with Ienaga."
"Eh~? So it's not a magic trick?"
A tick mark appeared on Hayato's head.
'THAT'S IT--!' "I WILL F**KING KILL YOU!"
Takeshi laughed brightly before unstrapping the sword from his back; Reborn had bought the other a new sword after returning from Mount Nejireme.
"Maa, maa, Hayato! Calm down. I just thought you needed to loosen up a little before the fight. You were all tense after Tsuna returned from his little field trip with Rikuo and his friends."
Hayato scoffed as he walked closer to the mirrors, tying the longer strands of his hair back.
"Making me blow a vessel will not help me loosen up, idiot."
"Uuuugh," The mirror yokai whined, lashing his misty arms around Tsuna and Kana while exiting the mirror world with them. "You guys are interrupting me and my fuuuuuun..."
Takeshi slipped the cloth away from his katana and unsheathed it. Kana gasped on the side because the blade was very real. What even caused her to sweat more was when Hayato brought dynamite sticks.
'EEEEEEEHHHH!?'
Tsuna sweatdropped, legs lightly kicking uselessly while he was held in the mirror-yokai's grasp.
'Ah...how will we explain this later on? Me and my family is part of a traveling circus act?' The brunet chuckled softly to himself and shook his head slightly. 'Haha, no.....but maybe...? I'm sure Kana-chan isn't that much of a ditz.'
As Tsuna watched his Guardians get ready for a fight, he tested the grip the mirror-yokai had on him. He could easily break out with his flames, but he'd rather stay free from the Vindice's grasp for now, thank you very much. Actually, Tsuna wasn't even sure if Gozumaru was a citizen or not. Using Flames in front of a citizen would break Omerta and unleash the wrath of Vindice on the person who broke suck rules. But Gozumaru was a yokai so...he was off the hook?
Tsuna shook his head and sighed, turning his attention back to the fight in front of him. Hayato stepped forward, snapping his wrist forward to fling a single dynamite stick at them. Kana squirmed violently in the mirror-yokai's misty arms, staring at the dynamite with wide eyes. She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for an explosion.
Poof!
Kana squinted her eyes open at that.
'What...? 'Poof'?'
Gray smoke obscured her vision, and she coughed slightly at that.
"Sword-idiot, make your move."
"Okay, Mr. Right-hand Man."
"Shut up."
Kana saw a glint of silver break through the smoke before she heard an angry screech come from the mirror-yokai.
"Graaah, you cut my arm off, you cut my arm off!" But then the yokai sneered, mist reforming the said limb. "But it's useleeessss~!"
Tsuna could sense that Takeshi was considering his next few moves. The ravenet had to scoot back a bit when the misty limb of the mirror-yokai became sharp, shaped like a scythe. The yokai quickly brought his arm down, intent on slicing the Rain in half.
Takeshi grinned widely as he blocked the attack from the mirror yokai with his sword, spinning on his heel to dodge to the left when a misty arm took a swipe at his right side.
As the ravenet bent his knees slightly, Takeshi narrowed his eyes for a moment, irises glowing blue for a split second. The ravenet quickly dashed forward cutting the distance in an alarming rate and sliced through the yokai, the sound of glass shattering filling the air. The young swordsman smiled as he turned to see the shards go up into the air, the smoke in the bathroom was slowly dispelling.
"Yosh!"
Kana blinked in surprise, mouth open in shock, now on the ground with Tsuna, free from the yokai's hold.. Takeshi tapped his blade onto his shoulder, laughing brightly in the brunette's direction.
"Well, that was fun! Are there anymore cool mirror-guys like that?"
"Why of course~!"
Takeshi's smile sharpened and Hayato grunted with annoyance. Hazel eyes watched as multiple clones of the mirror-yokai appeared, and Takeshi, slowly lowered his blade, pointing the tip towards the ground, preparing for any move against him and his friends. Hayato himself was flipping a dynamite stick casually between his fingers, eyeing the yokai with irritation. The mirror-yokai himself cackled.
"You merely killed a clone of mine. But now, you all just dug your own grave! Hahahahaha--hurk!" A thin line formed across every mirror-yokai's face, and he let out a choking noise. "Wh-Wha--!?"
"Hmph, Ungaikyou, I didn't expect filth like you to appear in my town."
The mirror-yokai, Ungaikyou, snarled as he slowly fell apart into shards, staring at reflections of himself to catch sight of the person who had slashed through him.
"Y-You're...! Nurariyhon--!"
He shattered into pieces, revealing a human figure behind him. Kana gasped, recognizing the newcomer immediately.
"Y-You! From Mt. Nejireme...!"
The said silveret smirked, red eyes glinting with amusement.
"Yo."
He then glanced over at Hayato and Takeshi, who were simply standing on the side now. The Rain had already sheathed his sword and strapped it to his back in cloth, and the Storm was clicking open a lighter before shutting it. Tsuna himself was casually dusting his clothes off, smiling amusedly at Night-Rikuo.
"Greetings, Nurarihyon, it's an honor to grace us with your presence again. And thanks for the little save."
The said silveret snorted mentally at how Tsuna was addressing him, sheathing Nenekirimaru. He walked forward, stopping in front of Kana, but keeping his gaze on the Decimo.
"Hmph. Why don't you walk on home, boys," Rikuo brought his gaze down, smirking slightly at Kana. "And I shall escort the young lady to her home safely."
Tsuna raised an eyebrow and shook his head slightly, sighing softly. He looked at Hayato and Takeshi, and with his gaze alone, the two Guardians nodded and left the bathroom. Tsuna walked past Rijuo and whispered softly.
"Don't drink too much. We still have school tomorrow."
Rikuo's smirk merely widened slightly, and he inclined his head. His way of saying: 'No promises'. Tsuna hid a roll of his eyes at that, exiting the bathroom. Rikuo chuckled before offering a hand to Kana.
"Shall we?"
~~
//(The Next Day)//
Tsuna sweatdropped at the sight of Day-Rikuo's head dropped down on the low table. He heard the shorter brunet muttering up a storm. Tsuna walked over to his cousin/brother and lightly poked him with his foot.
"...I told you drinking the night before school would be bad."
Kana was returned safely home after spending the night with Rikuo's night form. Rikuo was just trying to help calm her down from the rather scarring events and assuring her that her childhood 'friend' was gone. Night-Rikuo gave her an ornate, red mirror for her birthday. The irony nearly made Reborn bark out a laugh. But now, back to the present: Rikuo groaned louder and swatted weakly at Tsuna's leg.
"It's not my fault my yokai-side is shut a cocky idiot...!"
Tsuna chuckled at that before perking up a bit. He heard his phone chime. The Decimo, rummaged though his pockets, pulling a bottle of pain meds out along with his phone, handing the pills to Rikuo while unlocking his phone with his other hand. The Sky's brown eyes--he had his contacts in his eyes already--scanned the message that was sent to him.
Chrome (^ - ^): Boss, we have arrived at the airport. I'm sorry for such an abrupt message, but I have been trying to contact you yesterday. My messages and calls weren't getting through.
Tsuna smiled fondly at the polite message, and typed a message back.
You: Aha, sorry about that. I was dealing with a few problems and I was in an area where I couldn't get any connection. I hope I didn't worry you.
(ノ_<) =3
The response was immediate.
Chrome (^ - ^): It's alright, Boss. I'm happy that you have responded.
Chrome (^ - ^): Ah, Murkuro-nii-sama has hailed a cab. Where exactly are we going to meet up?
You: Oh. You two don't want me to pick you up or anything?
Chrome (^ - ^): Ah, we don't want to inconvenience you, Boss.
You: Well, alright then...
You: Ask the driver to head near Ukiyoe Chuu, and we can meet up around there.
Chrome (^ - ^): Understood, Boss.
You: Stay safe. :)
The conversation ended there, and Tsuna lifted his head to see Rikuo handing the bottle of pills back to him, murmuring a 'thank you'. Tsuna returned the bottle to his pocket as Hayato and Takeshi trailed in, already dressed up and ready to get to school. Tsuna crouched down slightly and nudged Rikuo again, grinning amusedly.
"C'mon~the medicine will take affect sooner if you move around a bit. Let's get going to school."
Rikuo sighed, sliding his glasses off to rub his eyes a bit before placing them back on. He smiled at Tsuna weakly, taking one last bite of breakfast before grabbing his bag.
"Alright..."
Tsuna, Hayato and Takeshi went ahead while Rikuo waited for Tsurara. It took a few minutes before the Yuki Onna popped into view, smiling brightly at Rikuo.
"Good morning, Rikuo-sama! Are you ready for school?"
Wincing slightly at her voice--she wasn't loud, but his head was still pounding slightly--Rikuo smiled softly at her.
"Hai. Let's go, Tsurara."
Rikuo and Tsurara arrived at the entrance to see Hayato and Takeshi on the side...and Tsuna and, surprisingly, Reborn was talking softly on the side. Rikuo couldn't hear the conversation, but Reborn narrowed his eyes before tipping his fedora over his eyes when Tsuna said something. The fedora-wearing teen seemed to be contemplating something before tilting his fedora back up, poking Tsuna's forehead roughly, smirking slightly.
"Basta non fare nulla di stupido, è idiota. Si morire sarebbe un disonore per Vongola e me." (Just don't do anything stupid, you idiot. You dying would be a disgrace to Vongola and me.)
Tsuna rolled his eyes and swatted Reborn's hand away, but he smiled a bit and nodded. Rikuo himself was confused, not understanding a bit of Italian. Tsurara inclined her head curiously, feeling like she heard that dialect before from her mother once from long ago...
Tsuna seemed to notice Rikuo and grinned widely at him.
"Heya, ready to do?"
Rikuo shook himself out of his musings, deciding to ask Tsuna later about the foreign language. The shorter brunet smiled and walked forward, Tsurara trailing behind.
"Hai!"
<<(Somewhere nearby)>>
"Hm~so...there are guests at the Nura Clan mansion? Interesting...." A ravenet peered outside of a window, a small, chilling smile on his lips as he watched the city life below. Golden-brown eyes peered behind himself to see his brunet companion, who had his tongue lolling out in the open. "You seem excited."
The brunet smirked, shoulders hunched slightly as he prowled forward, slinging an arm around the ravenet's neck, looking down at the city with him, daylight shining brightly through the window.
"I just want to slaughter them for you. You shouldn't waste your energy for such lowly yokai."
The ravenet merely chuckled, his eyes becoming narrowed slits as he looked back down at the city.
"You are strong, yes, but it would be proper to meet Nura Rikuo and his Clan." He hummed softly for a moment before speaking once more. "...Inugami."
The said brunet perked up, unslinging his arm from the other's neck. He felt eager to be of use--eager to fight.
"Yes?"
The ravenet's smile became more sinister and foreboding as he lightly clasped his hands behind himself, eyes never leaving the town below.
"Bring the boy with brown hair to me. I heard that he's a distant relative of Nura Rikuo. And try not to rip off any limbs--he's human, so he is weak."
Inugami smirked and nodded, turning around to exit the room.
"Of course, Tamazuki-sama."
