Chapter 3
*Serena POV*
I didn't realize I was falling fast until I hit the ground--hard. I squeezed my eyes shut, it hurt quite a bit. I hadn't realized that someone else was with me too.
"Ow!" That person said loudly. From what I heard, it sounded like a girl. "Come on, can't a girl rest in peace?!"
Curiosity made me open my eyes.
I was lying down in a field of grass, which surprisingly felt pretty comfortable. Cherry blossom trees that seemed to reach the sky surrounded the area. My chocolate brown hair stuck to my face.
Then I noticed the people.
One of them, the girl, had slightly curly, blond hair. She had pale skin and brown eyes. She had freckles and was rubbing her sides. The girl carried a big case, which lie next to her on the grass.
My eyes widened when I realized who the other was.
It was Andrew, who seemed unconscious and was lying on the floor. I recognized that messy black hair. How had he gotten here?
"Hi!" The girl said. "Jeez, don't tell me you brought me here! I was having a good time sleeping under that stupid tree!" I immediately shrunk away, it was my natural instinct. She didn't seem dangerous, but that didn't mean I liked her. She watched me move away. "Ok, fine! You don't look like an evil sorceress or a white rabbit, like from Wonderland or something. Or maybe you're Alice? Cheshire cat? Mad Hatter? Nah, you can't be Mad Hatter. Ooohhh, would I be Alice? That would be, like, so cool!" She talks too much, I thought annoyed. "But really, that fall hurt! Where are we anyway? Oh, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm--" She was cut off by Andrew groaning. She glared at his unconscious body. "We're having a girl's talk over here! Anyway as I was saying, I'm Isabella! The girl who talks to much and carries a violin everywhere! Now known as Alice from Wonderland! Who are you?" I tried to mentally tell her that I liked to be alone, that I didn't like to talk, but she still looked at me with a sparkle in her eyes.
She's a weirdo, I thought. But she wouldn't stop looking at me unless I told her something.
"Serena," I muttered sharply, hoping she would understand the implied go away message.
She didn't take a hint.
"Oh, Serena, what a pretty name! There's no way your Cheshire Cat then! So anyhow, where are we, and how did we get here? I was just sitting under a tree, minding my own business, then I end up down here! Like, hello, that's just messed up! I'd like to go back please!" She waited, as if expecting the world to obey and just bring her back to her tree. "Ok, guess not! Well, should we wake that dude up? What's he doing here anyway? Oh, don't give me that, go away look! 'Cause we're here together, so we're sticking together, got it? I don't like being in strange places."
"Stop," I whispered, glaring. Would this girl not shut up? She kept rambling, talking without a care in the world. "Stop," I croaked again. She didn't stop. Finally, I couldn't take it.
"STOP!"
The girl fell over, like my shout had some imaginary force that pushed her. She stared at me for a while, and I just stared back, breathing heavily. How long has it been since I'd shouted like this?
"Ok, jeez, just trying to lighten the mood!" The girl said after a while. "You didn't have to scare the breath out of me! Your voice is really pretty, by the way. You should talk more." I continued to glare. "Ok, fine! I'll go for a bit scouting then!" She stood up and left, leaving me sitting with an unconscious Andrew.
Well, that went great, I thought. It's already been a horrible day.
It can't possibly get worse, could it?
And of course, it could.
