Sakuatsu and the Uglygator
Tomorrow is Sakusa's birthday.
And Atsumu has no gift on his mind, because whenever Sakusa goes Sakusa wears a ruffled face. Irritated at everything. Tricky to guess, hence Atsumu has no clue of a fitting present. He had called friends to suggest ideas, yet theirs were "too ordinary" for his Omi and for such an important event. That won't do - it has to be grand, ornate, swanky.
There comes a savior.
Miya Osamu - Atsumu's younger brother whose strengths surpasses him (by an absolute unit). Businessman, owner of Onigiri Miya chain, who has a wonderful inamorato named Suna Rintarou.
He dials Osamu's number.
"Yo! Samu. I need you now!"
"Miya Osamu is unavailable-"
"Cut that shit out or I'll dash by your restaurant."
"Right. What's the problem? I don't have all day."
"T'morrow's Omi-kun's birthday."
"And?"
"Think of a gift? I literally told you to come help me."
"Tsumu, I think you have a problem up in your noggin'. Sakusa's your boyfriend. You know more about him than me. Why are you asking me this?"
"But I have no idea! I'm running outta time, and do you think I'm gonna drag my butt to his house empty-handed?"
"Is Sakusa your boyfriend or mine-"
"Ten pudding cups."
"-a dozen packs of medical masks, along with some hand sanitizers and you'll be fine."
"Tch. Too normal."
(Osamu swears, iIf Atsumu is in front of the kitchen counter with him right now, he would have to say bye-bye to his nose.)
"Had you thought of medical masks and hand sanitizers with a bouquet of roses?"
"Now you're cooking."
"Yes, so now don't bother me anymore. Please let me run my restaurant in peace."
Atsumu hangs up the phone, throws on his jacket and hat and marches out into the streets on a mission to find a gift for his Omi.
The streets are bustling since it is the weekend. This hinders Atsumu's progress greatly, as pedestrians left and right ask for his autograph. The worst thing is, the local pharmacy closed down, so he has to change the gift.
How sad.
Wandering on the streets, he boredly scans through stores until he stops at a...toy shop. How could you blame him, when everything on display is so adorable. Fluffy teddy bears, white bunny plushies, even one of a chicken drumstick. However, the only plushie in his eyes is a particularly ugly alligator. So ugly he receives a concerned look from the cashier, the "Are your eyes functioning normally? Do you need Vitamin A supplements?" typa look.
"Are you sure you want to buy this product?"
"Of course. I'll use my card."
"Mom. That thing's so ugly." - A boy remarks behind him, to be shushed by his mother quickly after. Atsumu could care less, because the plushie is special. A gift to his Kiyoomi, for him to remember Atsumu whenever he goes.
Sakusa Kiyoomi is already chilling on the sofa when Atsumu arrives home. Noticing Atsumu, Kiyoomi swiftly stands up.
"Where did you go out this late?"
"Uhh...I'm hungry. So I was out for food."
"That bag does not look like food." - He gestures at the pouch with the green alligator. - "Since when do you eat leaves?"
"That's not it! I already ate. This bag is a secret." - He tosses the bag into his room, and sits beside Kiyoomi.
"Ne, Omi-kun. T'morrow's your birthday, right? Do you wanna go somewhere, like a mall or park?"
"Tomorrow's Sunday, so I'll stay home."
"Oh, right. What about a birthday party?"
"I don't like when it's crowded, so there's no need for anything big. You and I, a cake, and it's enough."
Aww, Omi-kun. A smile crosses Atsumu's face.
"Roger that!"
***
The next day, Atsumu wakes up extremely early to prepare breakfast for both of them, which is special since Omi usually cooks in this household. He yields a classic American breakfast: one egg, one half-burnt strip of bacon and two sausages, which are feats Atsumu had achieved from one hour of fighting his cookingware. After the meal, Sakusa washes the dishes, consisting of some plates, pans, pots, and the rest of the battleground of Atsumu's cooking in the kitchen.
Atsumu, meanwhile, slips into his room and texts Osamu, informing him about Kiyoomi's birthday gift.
Atsumu
<[My gift for Omi Omi 💗]>
Osamu
<[ATSUMU WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?]>
<[Sakusa will boil you alive if you give him this hideous thing.]>
Sticker: Disappointment
Atsumu
<[It doesn't look that ugly. It looks fine to me.]>
Osamu
<[Right, it's not that ugly. IT'S JUST TOO UGLY. I can never look at it and think it's an alligator. It looks more like a monster that freaks children out in Monster Inc.]>
<[Suna physically facepalmed when he saw this thing. Should tell you how bad it is.]>
Atsumu
<[What's wrong with yall? This looks perfectly fine to me.]>
"Atsumu? What are you doing here?"
"Omi-kun! You're right on time." - Atsumu tosses his phone away, and unpacks his bag instead, revealing the green plushie.
"Is it...an alligator?"
"Yeah! You can't see it?"
(Sakusa thought it was a mutated three-legged lizard at first glance.)
"Thanks for the gift..."
"Thank god you like it. Samu even dared to tell me you'd boil me alive if I gave you this."
(Almost, Atsumu could just wait. One day Sakusa would boil some senses into him.)
"It's a little...ugly, Atsumu, so I'll give it back." - He tosses the plushie away and lies down on the bed beside Atsumu.
For the following few days, Atsumu could be seen in a despondent state, garnering sympathy from both Bokkun and Shoyo. Yet Atsumu is unaware, Sakusa cherishes the plushie, hugging it every night in sleep shrouded head to toe by blankets.
