SINCE THE GENTLE ROCKING OF THEIR CRADLES, THE SEA HAD CALLED THEM TO ITS DEPTHS. It's angelic voice and beauty lured them there like a siren hunting their prey, drawing them in closer and closer until they could never turn back. Endless waters of deep cerulean shone during the day and glistened by the night as it reflected the natural light of the world above. The sea was not for everyone, but not everyone was for the sea. Only a few could feel the salty droplets running throughout their soul and relish in the sensation. And once among the oscillating flow, it soon becomes clear that water is most certainly thicker than blood.

Bartholomew aka Barty Murdoch was one of those chosen by the sea. Since he could remember the song of the waves had called him, pulling him towards the open ocean. Everything started off quite peaceful, but then one thing led to another and before Barty knew it, he was a pirate raiding vessels on the high seas. And to be completely honest, he loved it. He loved the adrenaline pumping through his veins, the planning and fighting with his crew mates by his side and the splitting of the goods in the Captain's quarters. Life was great. But slowly their numbers dwindled, with some deciding to leave piracy behind for a simpler life, with some going off to find a ship of their own and with some even falling to Davy Jones' locker. Soon enough, it was just Barty on his own with no ship and no crew.

Cordelia Teach wasn't always a Teach. Once the sister of the infamous Blackbeard was just a lonely child who used to stare out at the ocean and dream of sailing. But the girl who longed for the water wasn't even allowed near its edge for her Father would drag her back towards land, with her kicking and screaming to be one with the sea. Losing her Mother had turned in him into a dark, cruel man; especially considering she had died at sea, her boat having crashed against some rocks in a jagged storm. And her Father wasn't going to lose her to the same fate.

Bartholomew Murdoch was once a man of status, having come from a well off military family going back generations. But Barty didn't want to dragged into duty nor did he want to carry the burden their family name brought. So he left his home in the dead of night and never looked back. And that was how the ocean finally claimed Bartholomew Murdoch.

Cordelia Teach's journey to the water was as unsteady as the waves she wished to sail upon. Justified as it was, her Father's refusal to allow her onto a boat hurt her more than she would like to admit. But then she found herself an orphan after her Father had gotten drunk one night and hit his head in a tavern. The young girl ended up running to the docks, finally free of the shackles of her life, only to meet an older boy who too was fleeing: Edward Teach. And that was how she met her brother and how she answered the ocean's call, becoming Cordelia Teach.

A pirate's life was certainly for them.

Barty Murdoch and Cordelia Teach may have been on completely different sides of the ocean, but they were both rebels at heart. But being a pirate isn't all treasure and adventure. They both lost from time to time: with Barty losing his hand to a fence (a wooden one not the kind you sell stuff to) before eventually losing his crew and Cordelia continued to lose crew mate after crew mate who were simply replaced, so she learnt not to get too attached to the men on the Teach's vessel.

His journey had led him to a bar in the Republic of Pirates where he was busy drowning his sorrows in a mug of whatever alcohol that they served. That was until a dandy looking man turned up with an English prisoner to sell, the Gentleman Pirate intriguing Hook enough to help him in his endeavour.

And that started the one-handed pirate on a path of adventure and mischief, leading him to meeting sister of the fearsome Blackbeard. He was expecting her to be like a siren from the depths of the ocean, but even though she was stunningly beautiful and quite fierce herself, she was nothing like what he had pictured. And Cordelia, upon hearing the name Hook, a name that had echoed across the waves, she expected a more ruthless man than the charming and witty one she met.

Bartholomew Murdoch and Cordelia Teach were just two lost souls of the ocean, who once together would sail the seven seas just to be in each other's arms.

AUTHOR'S NOTE —
As soon as I watched Our Flag Means Death I immediately fell in love with it, because what's not to like? This show is amazing so of course I came up with a book idea for it. Barty is a result of watching OUAT not long before watching OFMD and then I came up with the idea that his love interest should be Ed's sister. Hopefully this book will almost be as good as the version already in my head because I really want to share the amazingness of Bartelia with you all.
