twenty-one

[twenty-one: my young Knight]

Glozelle rides back towards the Telmarine army and a few soldiers rush at Peter but he only turns and kills them with one motion of his sword - the blood oozing off the end of it and shining in the sunlight.

"To arms, Telmar! To arms!" Glozelle shouts as the Telmarines raise their weapons and cheer. "Cavalry... charge!"

The Telmarines charge at the Narnians, battle cries escaping their lips as they aim specifically for Peter - the man who supposedly ended their King's life. Peter looks back at Caspian who rides back into the How on horseback where hundreds of Narnians wait inside.

"Narnians! Charge!" He screams as the lifts his sword. With Caspian leading the way, the Narnians charge down a tunnel beneath the battlefield.

"One, two, three..." Peter counts as he battles across the battlefield, stealing a glance at Caspian who nods.

"Four, five, six..." Caspian continues as the two catch a glimpse at Susan who nods.

"Archers to the ready!" Susan commands and in tow the Narnian archers put arrows to the strings and take aim and the Telmarine soldiers.

"Seven, eight, nine..." Peter shouts before he looks back and Susan with a determined smile. "Get ready!"

"Take your aim!" Susan says and the remaining archers make a stronger aim before Caspian lifts his sword into the air.

"Now!"

The Narnians underground begin smashing the stone pillars on the battlefield, surprising many Telmarines as they look forward with fear in their eyes. The ground collapses and most of the Telmarine horses fall into the pit.

"Fire!" Susan screams as the archers release their arrows and reload again.

The arrows fall into the pit, hitting Telmarines. At the end of the underground tunnel, two dwarfs lower a platform, and Caspian leads the Narnians out into the sun, picking up Genevieve on the way who smiles to Edmund, and they circle around to the Telmarine cavalry. A soldier climbs out of the pit, and sees Reepicheep in armor and his eyes widen.

"You're... a mouse." The soldier claims the specific line that Reepicheep had heard many times and the mouse only sighs.

"You people have no imaginations!" He accuses before he attacks the soldier.

The battle continues quickly, blood being shed at every corner whilst the sound of metal upon metal fills the air and dominating all peace. Peter looks up at Susan expectantly and she only shakes her head then looks at Genevieve.

"Ron..." She whispered as she shared a look with Peter, wide eyed.

"Lucy..." Peter looks at the Telmarine army, aware of the situation he was in and he raises his sword. "Back to the How!"

The Narnians begin retreating towards Aslan's How, the Telmarines watching them do so with determined looks as they chase after them until Sopespian steps forward with a wicked grin on his features.

"Cut off their escape!"

The Telmarine trebuchets launch rocks at the how and debris from the How falls down and blocks the entrance. Rocks continuously fall around the archers and Susan gasps as the platform begins to shake as she pushers her archers to safety.

"Brace yourself." She warns before the ground collapses beneath her and Susan falls and Trumpkin tries to catch her but fails. Susan slips and falls down to the next level, she gets down and joins the others. They look around and see they are surrounded, and the Telmarines are closing in and Edmund takes Genevieve's hand in his and gives it a light squeeze.

"Crush them all."

Edmund draws his sword and they all exchange determined glances. Then they charge, Peter leading the way as they hope for Aslan to come - and that their youngest were safe and okay.

Lucy and Ron ride on, still pursued by a Telmarine on horseback in the daylight. It had been about an hour since Susan had left them and yet only one soldier still followed them, the rest retreating to warn Miraz - though they at that point were unaware that their King was dead. The soldier began to close in and Ron looked back worriedly before he took a deep breath and took his new sword before letting go of Lucy's waist.

"Keep going Lucy, I'll hold him off!" Ron shouts as he jumps of Destier, Lucy stopping the horse as she stares at the young boy like he was crazy - which he truly was.

"I am not leaving you!" Lucy screams as the soldier deems closer but Ron only shakes his head at her.

"Go!" He demands but she only shakes her head.

"No!"

"Go Lucy! Find Aslan!" Ron shouts as she raises his sword and runs at the soldier, his sword hitting the soldiers before the soldier disarms Ron and goes to hit him again.

"Ron!" Lucy lets out a raw scream as she looks at the young boy, who sends her one last look before it happens.

And it it.

Aslan jumps out and roars at the soldier who is about to stab Ron in the chest. Destier himself rears and Lucy falls up as she looks up at the lion with a smile on her petite face, Ron looking with wondrous eyes. Aslan jumps over her head, knocking the soldier off his horse easily as Lucy manages to dismount from Destier. Lucy runs to the top of the hill and he is there, chasing the Telmarine soldier and the horse away leaving the lion triumphant. The lion looks at her and Ron runs behind her with wide eyes.

"Aslan!" Lucy screams happy as she runs towards him and they embrace. "I knew it was you. The whole time, I knew it. But the others wouldn't believe me except Ron but he technically saw you first."

"And why would that stop you from coming to me?" Aslan asks her and Lucy's smile dropped for a moment as she looks at him.

"I'm sorry. I was too scared to come alone." She whispers before shes looks at the great lion curiously. "Why haven't you shown yourself? I thought you'd come roaring into save us like last time."

"Things never happen the same way twice." Aslan says with a sad smile and guilt crosses over Lucy's face.

"If I had come earlier... everyone who died... could I have stopped that?" She asked and Aslan was silent for a moment before he sent her a small smile.

"We can never know what would have happened, Lucy." Aslan admits before her tightens his poise and straightens his back. "But what will happen is another matter entirely."

"You'll help us?" Ron asked, the lion turning to him for a moment with a proud look on his face before nodding.

"Of course, as will the two of you." He saws and both Lucy's and Ron's eyes widen at his words, unaware that they would have a bigger part in the fight.

"Oh, well I wish I was braver." Lucy admits and Aslan only chuckles for a moment before looking at the girl softly.

"If you were any braver, you'd be a lioness. " He says and Lucy smiles a little before Ron himself steps forward.

"What about me?" He asked and Aslan sent him a smile before gesturing for the boy to come forward.

" You have more bravery in your pinky finger than most men have in their bodies my young Knight." Aslan said as he placed his paw onto the young boys shoulder, Lucy gasping at the gesture whilst the young boy smiles at his knighthood - he finally did something right. "Now, I think your friends have slept long enough, don't you?"

It is then Aslan roars, and Genevieve managed to hear it from miles away.
