nineteen

[nineteen: I thought I lost you]

"No!" Edmund shouted as he tried to rush forward, Caspian pulling him back with wide eyes as they watched the serpent become distracted by the girl in the water as Lucy shot one of Susan's arrows - hitting the serpent straight in the eye. "We have to help her!"

"Edmund there's nothing we can do!" Ron shouted as he pulled the older boy behind him as they watched the serpent squeal. "We have to trust her!"

"Brace yourselves!" Caspian seamed as the serpent drew near, fear crossing over his features.

Eustace opened his eyes on the beach, feeling calmer and more relaxed than he did when he crash landed before with the sword wedged into his back. His blue orbs trained on the sand in front of him as a majestic creature walked slowly towards him with pride written across his features - truly a King like he had been depicted.

Eustace tried to sit up as he faced the lion, trying to scratch off his golden scales with his claws but was unable to do so. He was too weak. Willingly, Aslan moved his paw across the sand of the beach three times - watching as his claw marks appeared across the brave dragon's body and began to peel away the scales and skin that was there.

Suddenly, Eustace stood up as he could feel the magic absorb him before the lion let out an aggressive roar, his teeth bare as Eustace was hoisted into the air by his wings - majestically flying peacefully as the sand around him engulfed him with gold embers. Eustace didn't know what was happening until he landed on the floor of an island, his body now timid again as he was retired into the body of the same Cambridge boy who came to Narnia - though he clearly wasn't that boy anymore.

For he had changed for the better!

The serpent screeched aggressively as it stood in front of the rock and the ship, looking both to the water and to the crew members as it tried to find the mysterious girl that jumped in and tried to fend off the Narnians who were on its island. As the crew tried to calm themselves, the serpent began to morph into something bigger - its body changing to form a cross between a snake and a sea serpent as Edmund closed his eyes wishing his wife was safe.

Though he was certain he was wrong.

"Move!" Caspian shouted as he pushed Edmund out of the way of the serpent who almost engulfed him as the two knocked over a couple of barrels as they landed - Caspian sending him a pained look before he saw Ron chopping a piece of the serpent's mouth off. "I've already lost a sister Edmund, I'm not losing you too."

Caspian drew his sword and copied Ron's actions as he cut off a part of its mouth, watching as the serpent whined whilst its chopped off parts faded into mist once again.

"We can beat this." Caspian stated in determination, unaware of what was occurring underneath the ship.

Suddenly his eyes burst open!

Eustace Scrubb opened his eyes and looked around at where he had landed, no lion or beach in sight. There were only trees bare of leaves because they had fallen to the floor. But one thing Eustace did notice was that he didn't feel so grand anymore. Eustace patted himself down, smiling slightly as he realised that he was a boy again but upon looking to his left he spotted something and ran towards it.

Laying in the leaves was the seventh sword.

Eustace quickly picked it up and examined it for a moment before looking around.

Where was the table?

+++

"We have to get it closer." Edmund stated as he ran away, Caspian not having time to reply before the men on the ship began to panic.

"All hands to the main deck." Drinian shouted as he looked to Caspian who nodded.

"Ready the harpoons." He commanded as everyone cleared to the middle of the deck, Edmund catching a rope from the mast and beginning to climb up it.

He had to avenge Genevieve.

"Ready?" Caspian asked.

"Aye, sir!"

"Now!" Caspian screamed as they released the harpoons, the majority piercing into the serpent who squirmed at the unnecessary contact.

"Pull its head down!" Caspian demanded as the crew tried to pull it down - but finding themselves unsuccessful.

It was too strong

Eustace ran across the entryway of Ramandu's island, following footprints that he hoped would lead him to the table he had not visited before. After running for a few minutes he came across the table and he smiled.

That was when it started.

The six swords on the table started clattering, the six and the seventh in Eustace's hand turning blue as they attracted each other - Eustace advancing towards them slowly as if afraid to place down the sword as the green mist began to surround him.

+++

"Heave!" Caspian shouted, the Narnians yelling until the unthinkable happened.

The harpoon's snapped.

"What are we going to do now?" Ron asked Caspian whose eyes widened as the serpent sneered down at them.

"Hey Casp," He heard someone shout faintly - as if through his mind. "on your left."

Caspian turned to his left, the crew and the serpent following his lead as a single light glimmered in the water in the distance - growing bigger every second as something rose out of the water. Lilac and gold emitted from the ruffian sea as it pierced into the serpents chest, holding it as still as possible and trapping it from moving. The crew watched in curiosity as the lilac and gold beams formed a cloud - big enough for one person to stand as it elevated into the air and Edmund smiled.

It was her.

She wore the same as she did before she jumped but she definitely wasn't the same as she was then. Her eyes told a story of a broken girl - all the pain she had experienced drenching into her actions as she held the serpent still, the beams illuminating from her palms as she did her duty as the Eve of Narnia.

She had to protect him.

"Genevieve!" Ron screamed happily as he looked at her, the girl not hearing him as her eyes darkened at the serpent who looked at if it were about to hurt Edmund and put her two hands together and focused on the serpent - watching it wince in pain as she thrust one large beam at him again.

"Edmund hurry!" She screamed as she slowly tilted the serpent's head towards him, her powers becoming incredibly weak as her hands began to burn from the immense power in her rings which had suddenly worked in her favor. Edmund hurried back up the mast with a smile as he looked to his wife - calming himself down.

Until she appeared.

"Edmund." The witch whispered as she floated in front of him, his eyes trained on her intently as she spoke to him so sweetly like she did the first time they met. "What are you trying to prove, Edmund? That you're a man?"

"Edmund! Do it!" Caspian's shout faded into the background as Edmund focused his attention on the witch - forgetting his wife who was across the water holding off a sea serpent.

"I can make you that. I can make you my king." She promised as she held out her hand to him. "Just take my hand. Just give in. Do it! Come on!"

Edmund began to move his hands towards hers, the woman once again infatuating him until he looked to the ground of the mast and saw a spare anchor.

His anchor.

Edmund quickly looked to the side and saw Genevieve desperately trying to hold the serpent still as it squirmed in her grasp, the beams of lilac and gold becoming weaker as she struggled and he smiled before he turned back to the Witch.

"I don't need a Kingdom," Edmund stated as his eyes trained on Genevieve and he lifted his sword. "when I have her."

+++

Eustace was struggling!

He had tried to place the seventh sword down but was immediately engulfed by the green mist which was refusing to let him do so. Eustace swung the sword around uncontrollably, watching as the mist began to disperse around him as he leaned forward against the table.

Then he placed down the sword.

And an azure beam of blue soared into the sky.

+++

Edmund looked down at Peter's sword in his hand, watching as it turned a brilliant blue in order to mark the seventh sword being lain on Aslan's table. The Witch shared a look with Edmund before her eyes widened at the sword, her eyes focusing on Genevieve as the girl let go of the serpent and the beams of light disappeared from her rings - Edmund preparing to strike it as the serpent looked towards him.

And he stabbed it right through the jaw.

"No!" The Witch yelled before she disappeared, the sword piercing through the sea serpent to emit light over the island, the sun beginning to shine through the dark clouds that disintegrated.

It was over!

"The spell..." Lucy stated as she looked around with a smile on her face as she watched the beams of light pierce through the darkness. "it's lifting."

Edmund's gaze immediately went to Genevieve, watching as her body slumped over and the cloud beneath her vanished - allowing her to fall straight into the water unconsciously. Edmund quickly gasped as he jumped into the water after her and swam towards his wife, pulling her into his arms as he swam back to the ship - Caspian helping to get her on deck.

"Lucy," Caspian stated as they looked at the unconscious girl and laid her down on the deck. "your cordial."

"Edmund! Caspian! Look!" Lucy shouted as she looked into the distance after giving Genevieve a drop of cordial and spotting longboats in the distance - Caspian smiling as he viewed them.

"Narnians! Narnians!" Caspian shouted happily as the longboats ventured forward, Rhince and Gael looking over as they caught the eyes of a familiar figure.

"Mummy!" Gael screamed as she jumped into the water upon seeing her mother, Rhince smiling.

"Helaine!" Rhince shouted after as he jumped after his daughter and swam towards his wife, Edmund wrapping an arm around his sister and smiled at the reuniting family.

"Rhince! Gael!" Helaine shouted as she jumped into the water and embraced her daughter and husband.

"Mummy! Mummy. Oh, Mummy." Gael began to cry as her mother hugged her, happy she was alive and well like Lucy had promised.

"Let's have them on board! Clear the decks." Caspian stated to his crew who nodded as they looked at him.

"Edmund?" Genevieve whispered and the boy immediately turned around as he saw him wife coughing up seawater - a smile on his face as he scooped her up into her arms, tears falling from his eyes which she wiped away with her thumb. "Hey, I told you to trust me."

"I thought I lost you." Edmund whispered as he lent his forehead against hers and she smiled.

"You could never." She whispered back, her breath hot on Edmund's lips as he immediately joined them together.

Neither had felt this way before, felt like they had everything they ever wanted and needed in one place for one pure moment of bliss. There weren't fireworks, there weren't tingly feelings in the bottom of one's stomach or butterflies as they were previously referred. There was pure passion in every movement, in the smiles they had on each other's faces and the tears that sprung to their eyes. The moment so pure that it looked magical to those who watched with smiles on there faces. It was a moment that would be treasured for the long hall, never to be felt again as they held each other to themselves in Genevieve's one act of selfishness.

And Genevieve was proud to be selfish with this boy for once in her life.

"I love you so much." Edmund murmured as they pulled or a breath, unaware of the attention they had caused on the ship as Genevieve buried her face in the crook of his neck.

"I love you so much more Ed." She whispered back and he only chuckled as he caressed her cheek and held her close.

"That is not possible!"

Edmund placed Genevieve back down onto the deck, allowing her to stand as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder - Genevieve's eyes immediately going to Ron who has tapping his foot impatiently as he looked at her and she held her arms wide, he immediately ran into her arms.

"Don't be in a selfless fight she said, run if it gets to hard she said. Promise me you'll survive she said." Ron murmured as he sobbed against his cousins shoulder, allowing Genevieve to wrap her arms around him with a smile on her face.

"I'm sorry." She whispered to him and he only chuckled as he wiped the tears from his eyes and a smile formed on his face.

"You're a hypocrite," Ron stated, watching as a frown settled on Genevieve's face before he laughed. "But I love you anyway."

"We did it." Lucy said after she embraced her sister after Caspian did, the latter being very stern with his words much like a protective sibling would. She, Edmund, Caspian, Genevieve and Ron looking over the water as they all held each other's embraces. "I knew we would."

"It wasn't just us, though." Edmund stated and Lucy's eyes widened.

"You mean..."

That's when they heard the splashing.

"Hey! Hey, I'm down here, Lucy." Someone stated and Lucy looked over the edge with a smile on her face. "Over here! Hey, Lucy. I'm in the water. Lucy!"

"Eustace." She stated happily and Ron's ears perked hearing those words, the boy looking over the edge with a happy smile on his face.

"I'm a boy again. I'm a boy." Eustace stated happily before he met Ron's eye, the boy blushing upon seeing him.

"Sweetheart." Ron said happily as he jumped into the water and embraced Eustace, almost crying as he wrapped his arms around Eustace's neck. "Did you miss me?"

"Always." Eustace whispered, their faces so close that Eustace could feel Ron's breath on his lips. The two were slowly moving towards each other, the two smiling until a splash interrupted them and Eustace immediately let go of Ron.

So close!

"Eustace! I see your wings... have been clipped. Ha, ha!" Reepicheep said as he looked at the boy and smiled.

"Darn it Reep." Ron whispered, Eustace not hearing as he embraced his mouse friend - Ron smiling anyway at the power trio being reunited.

Where sky and water meet

Where the waves grow ever sweet

"It is sweet." Reepicheep stated as he tasted the water again happily, his little song interrupted. "It's sweet! Look! Look!"

"Aslan's country. We must be close." Caspian commented as he looked closer, lilies spotted across the water in the distance as a soft smile formed on Genevieve's face.

"Well,we've come this far." Edmund said as he grasped Genevieve's hand - her heart thumping harshly in her chest as she met Ron's sad eyes and she nodded as she looked to the Lilies in the sea as she grasped Edmund's hand.

The end was near!
