CHAPTER NINE: true north

ASHLEY JENKINS SIGHS AS SHE ATE THE MAC AND CHEESE SHE HAD MADE HERSELF. She had put extra cheese in it, her loving anything cheesy. 

The girl softly at Ruby, who raised an eyebrow when seeing the girl. "Doesn't your shift start for another, hour?"

"Yes. But, I forgot to do grocery shopping. And I wanted mac and cheese."

Ashley had been happy when she hadn't seen Dr. Whale. The young woman had been having a boring day, nothing seemingly interesting happened. And, typically, whenever it was slow in the diner, she would do her homework.

But, she had finished her homework last night, and had nothing else to do for school.

"I have an idea," Ashley speaks.

"To finally go in the date that I tried to set you up on? He's still interested." Ruby tells her.

"How many times do I have to tell you? I don't want to date anyone at the moment."

"It'll be fun! When was the last time you went on a date?"

"Can't remember. And I'm gonna keep it that way."

"Hello," a male chive called out.

Ashley looked up, smiling. The man, unknown stared at her momentarily.

"Hello," she greeted back. "Looking for a room?"

The man shook his head before nodding. "Yeah, a room."

"Traveling with anyone else?"

"No. Just me."

"Okay. So, here's a key to a room." Ashley handed the key. "And tomorrow, if you are looking for a place to eat. You should come by Granny's dinner."

"You work there too?"

"Yeah..." she replied, unsurely. She then extended her hand. "Ashley."

"August," The man shook her hand.
