twenty six.
Jungkook held tightly onto Yoongi's hand as they entered Namjoon's laboratory. He hid behind the older male's back, watching everything warily. Sometimes he'd hear a noise and jump, moving closer to Yoongi and holding his hand tighter. There was a limit to what Yoongi could do to comfort the boy and he was stuck just whispering the occasional (hopefully) soothing few words or rubbing the back of his hand. When they reached the final door, the blonde paused and gave the brunette one last kiss on the forehead. He hoped that did something, but he couldn't be sure. Jungkook definitely didn't become less tense, he knew that for sure.
"It's only for a couple of days, alright?" He reminded the boy, giving his hand a little squeeze. "I won't let anyone hurt you."
"I trust you." The pair then entered the next room, where Namjoon was standing at one of the desks. He was running through all his equipment while occasionally checking back at his laptop.
Jungkook could only see the back of him but just the sight of him in the long, white coat brought all the memories he'd struggled to suppress rushing back. His chest ached and his lip quivered, but he did his best to hide how easily this male had affected him. His pride didn't want him to know. Namjoon then turned around, sensing the pair behind him, and gave them both a small smile in greeting. The feelings intensified.
"Ah, you came! I'm glad." Every little thing Namjoon did just made Jungkook feel worse. When they'd arrived, the brunette had told himself that he wouldn't let the scientist get to him, he wouldn't regress. And yet every time the older male would look somewhere but the boy, Jungkook could feel the ghost of feelings he'd once felt being to resurface; he wanted all of Namjoon's attention, to be his favourite again.
But he had Yoongi now; he had to remind himself that. Namjoon was nothing in comparison, and Jungkook didn't need him anymore. The brunette moved closer to the blonde, forcing him to wrap his arm around his small body as he watched the other scientist. The warmth radiating from Yoongi's body made him feel a little better. Jungkook would rather depend on Yoongi and be desperate for his attention instead.
"Does Kookie need to do any tests now?" Yoongi asked after a few seconds of silence ― they seemed longer to Jungkook. Namjoon shook his head, still smiling. He had such a kind smile, Jungkook almost wanted to believe he'd changed. But then, he always looked like that.
"No, not just yet. I've still gotta finish setting up the equipment." The door behind them opened again and Jungkook jumped, being startled by the unexpected sound of footsteps behind. His wings tensed, ready for an escape flight they weren't strong enough to do, and he moved even closer to Yoongi, which nearly caused him to fall over. When he glanced behind him, he saw it was just Jimin walking in with his arms full of more equipment. "Jimin can show you to the room that we've set up for you."
"Follow me." The shorter male said as he gestured at the pair. He didn't wait to see if they were following and just left the room. Luckily, Jungkook and Yoongi were following close behind.
Things hadn't changed much since Jungkook had last been there; he hadn't left his room much though, so maybe there were changes and he just didn't notice them. Whatever. It didn't matter that much anyway.
"Joon set up this room here for you." Jimin stopped outside a door, pushing it open to make what was very clearly a makeshift bedroom (but still better than the bed Yoongi had slept on in the early days). "There's only one bed ― if you can even call it that ― so you'll have to share. But I figure that won't be a problem..."
"Aren't dogs meant to be more excited and cheerful?" Yoongi chuckled at the younger's dull tone.
"Namjoon got better at isolating the DNA after Jungkook. I only have certain aspects." Jimin shrugged it off. "Anyway, make yourselves at home. I'm sure I'll be round to grab you guys later. If you need anything, don't hesitate to yell out... Joon doesn't."
"Thank you, Jimin." The blonde responded, while Jungkook just gave a little nod of the head to further emphasise the thank you. Jimin shrugged again and wandered off, leaving the pair to get used to their bedroom for the next couple of days. Yoongi dragged Jungkook into the bedroom, pulling him down onto the mattress on the floor. He flopped on top of the older male, instantly worried he might have harmed him when he heard the little 'oof' that escaped him. But then Yoongi just chuckled, "You take my breath away, Kookie."
"That's not a good thing." Jungkook responded as he rolled over, lying down next to the older male. He curled up beside him, his wings dropping in a way that was kind of uncomfortable but he ignored it. "Why do we have to come here?"
"To do some tests to make sure everything's alright. I already told you this, remember?"
"Yeah but why now? I've never needed these sorts of tests before." There was a pause, one that told Jungkook that Yoongi was about to confess something. This suspicion was strengthened when the brunette looked up at him and saw him staring at the ceiling, chewing his bottom lip ― thinking. Then he exhaled slowly, puffing up his cheeks as he did so.
"Kookie, I've gotta admit, I've been keeping something from you. But not in the bad sense but in, like, the surprise sense. You know like when someone wants to give someone a birthday present, but they can't tell them what it is ― that sort of secret." Yoongi rolled onto his side so he could be looking at the younger when he revealed the secret. The fact he'd kept something made Jungkook want to be angry or hurt, but he couldn't ― curiosity and anticipation overwhelmed them. "You know how you're always locked inside and can't leave the house without being bundled up in heaps of clothing? Well Namjoon, Hoseok and I managed to find a way to reverse the DNA splicing that's happened in you. It'd make you 100% human again."
"Really?" Jungkook wasn't exactly sure how he felt. When Yoongi nodded, a whole mixture of emotions stirred inside of him: excitement, happiness, sadness, worry... It really was rather confusing for the poor boy.
"Yeah. But would you want that? You'd lose your wings..."
"Would I be able to go on normal dates with you, like they do in the dramas?" Another nod from the older male. "And you won't get bored of me, if I lose my wings?"
"Honestly, Kookie, most of the time I barely even notice them. They're not what makes you so special, not to me at least." Yoongi kissed the top of the boy's head, before squirming down so their faces were more at an equal level. "Even without wings, you'll always be my angel. Haven't I already told you that?"
"Promise?"
"Cross my heart and hope to die." This made the younger smile and he got brave again, shuffling in so he could kiss the older on the lips again. Jungkook ― still new to this whole kissing on the lips thing ― was unaware of the idea that these sort of things could be savoured and enjoyed, that they weren't necessarily just a brief thing that had to be enjoyed at maximum level for the short time that it was happening, rushed into the kiss and deepened it as quick as he could. This resulted in a rather passionate kiss that escalated faster than the older anticipated. Not that he was complaining; the novelty of kissing Jungkook still hadn't worn off, although he wasn't sure if it ever would.
"Jeez, when I said make yourselves at home, I didn't mean this comfortable..." Jimin remarked, his re-entrance going unnoticed by the rather distracted couple. They instantly jumped, pulling away from the kiss. "Namjoon's ready for the first tests though. He's in the same room as before." And with his announcement complete, Jimin left the room again, probably to go do one of the tasks on his list.
"So you're sure you want to reverse it?" Yoongi asked as they sat up, looking at the younger. Jungkook nodded, giving him a smile.
"Yeah, I'm sure. But you better keep your promises."
"I told you, I crossed my heart. I'd be mad if I broke my promise anyway." Now standing, Jungkook's hand instantly found itself interlocking with the blonde's. "Risk losing someone like you? I'm lucky I even got you in the first place."
"True... We better go on a date as soon as my wings are gone."
"And where do you wanna go for this date?" Jungkook thought for a moment. His experience was limited, but one particular place did spring to mind. He smiled at the thought.
"I'd like to get the kebabs again..."
―
I call them kebabs, they call them skewers... It makes it difficult for me to reference that properly when I choose to stick with what I say
And I've just had a good idea for the epilogue of this story (I think it's good at least) :D
