eleven.
"You'll get sick if you don't eat." Yoongi told Jungkook as he watched him barely touch yet another meal. The younger glanced up at him and blinked. "It makes me worried when you skip meals. You need to eat them to be healthy."
Jungkook just looked back down at his meal and pushed more rice across his bowl. He seemed to be trying to separate the rice from the rest of the food, and failing at it. Realising he wasn't going to be able to get to the boy, the older male just sighed and continued to eat his own meal. He finished his and then took it across to the sink. Jungkook appeared next to him with his full bowl.
"Wait." Yoongi said as the younger turned to leave. "I want you to eat one mouthful before you go and watch television. That's all I ask: eat one mouthful."
Jungkook stood there, a small frown on his brow as he stared at the brunette. Yoongi scooped a mouthful of rice and vegetables and offered it to the younger, who allowed himself to be hand-fed. He chewed the mouthful, a grain of rice sticking to his lip. His tongue then flicked out to collect it.
"When will we see..." Jungkook frowned again, pausing. "The man on the television?"
"Taehyung? In a couple of weeks. I've ordered the tickets so you can definitely meet him." The younger just nodded approvingly. "What do you want to give him? Do you want to go out and buy it this weekend?"
"No, that's fine. I don't know what to get someone like him."
"Well you need to get some fresh air anyway. We can look for something while we're out."
This made the younger boy huff. His bottom lip began to poke out as he frowned. "But I don't want to go out. The coat is too hot and uncomfortable."
"You can wear one of the lighter ones... Or maybe you can just not wear anything under it. It might be cooler if you do that."
"It'll still be uncomfortable. My wings get uncomfortable."
"We won't be out long." Jungkook huffed again and walked off, returning to his television show. Yoongi finished washing up the few dishes they had before he sat down next to the boy. The younger began shuffling around, making Yoongi think he was going to move away from him. But then he shuffled closer, his head resting beside the older male's thigh. He lay there for a few minutes before sitting up, grabbing a cushion and placing it on Yoongi's legs. Jungkook then lay back down, resting his head on that.
"He's a liar." The younger muttered as he watched Taehyung, frowning at the television. "He's not really happy."
"How can you tell?"
"He couldn't be happy, just like he couldn't really love this girl as well. Taehyung's a liar."
Yoongi, unsure on how to respond, simply fell quiet and continued to watch the drama. He couldn't quite see what the younger meant ー the actor looked pretty happy to him ー but he decided not to disagree with him. It was probably better if he didn't.
As they watched, Yoongi began playing with Jungkook's hair. He'd started doing it subconsciously, pausing when he first realised he was doing it. He'd been worried the boy might complain or move away, but he didn't do anything and so Yoongi continued. He sighed softly when he realised he was going to have to try and wash his hair again.
The scratches still hadn't healed from last time.
"It's in my eyes! My eyes hurt!" Jungkook screamed as he struggled against Yoongi, shampoo running from his hair down to his face. Red lines from where the younger's nails had scraped across the skin littered the brunette's chest and arms.
"Then calm down and let me wash it out." For once, Jungkook actually listened to him. He stopped, looking up at Yoongi. The older male wiped as much shampoo as he could with his fingers before cupping some of the water in his hands. He rinsed the shampoo from the boy's face, trying to be as gentle as possible. "I think we're going to have to start doing this in the bath."
"I don't want to do it at all."
"You have to, otherwise your hair will get all dirty and gross."
Jungkook just shrugged, "He didn't care."
"Well I do." Yoongi continued to rinse the shampoo out of Jungkook's hair, making him lean back so most of the shampoo moved away from his face. "And for as long as you're living under my roof you'll wash your hair regularly."
"I didn't ask to live here. You took me away."
"No, I saved you. It might not seem like that to you, but I did." The brunette said softly, watching as the younger grew confused.
"How?"
"Well, if I didn't... Namー He was going to... put you down." Yoongi didn't like saying this to the boy. He didn't like the thought of Jungkook not living here with him; it made him grateful he'd helped Namjoon. He also didn't like to think his friend was capable of such a thing ー but then it seemed like his friend was capable of more than Yoongi realised or accepted.
"Then I'd be where I belong ー up there. The only people who should have wings are angels, and right now I'm not an angel."
"That's not true. You're an angel." The boy seemed so much smaller now. Yoongi pulled him closer, grateful for the fact they were both wearing shorts, and hugged him. Jungkook slowly hugged back. He was so small Yoongi was almost afraid he'd crush him.
"If I'm an angel, why does everyone keep leaving me?"
"I won't leave you. I haven't left you yet, have I?"
"He kept me for years before he got rid of me."
"I won't ever get rid of you, I promise. If I do, you can hunt me down and scratch me to death." Jungkook was grateful Yoongi couldn't see his face right now. He didn't want the older male to see the tears that were forming in his eyes ー he couldn't even tell why they were there. Probably because of the shampoo, he told himself. That's what it was.
"I'd rather just squirt shampoo in your eyes until you cry." This made the older male chuckle.
"Well then you can do that. But I promise ー I swear on my mother's grave that I will never, ever leave you."
Jungkook wanted to say to Yoongi that he accepted the deal, that he trusted him, but something stopped him. The words got caught on his tongue and the distrust he still had forced him to swallow them back down. In the end, all he could say was: "We'll see."
ー
"I got you a present." Yoongi said as he sat down next to Jungkook. He handed a rather large box set to the younger male, who stared at it blankly. "It just came out today in the stores ー it's all of Taehyung's works, well half of them anyway. Each little box is a different series. I was going to get you the second half as well but I figured you can watch these ones first and when you've finished you can watch the other half."
"Is this the medical one?" Jungkook asked, pulling out the first one. He looked up at Hoseok, who had come around again. The older male nodded, smiling.
"Yep, Taehyung's debut as an actor. He isn't in the first couple of episodes, but then he shows up as a patient. It's good."
Now Jungkook turned to Yoongi. "Can we watch it?"
"You can watch it whenever you like... I bought it so you could watch it."
"No, can we watch it?" The younger gestured at the pair of them.
"Well, maybe not right now because he have to go out to dinner, but we could start it after. We could watch an episode each night." This seemed to please the younger male and he got up, shuffling to the bedroom to get changed. Yoongi smiled to himself. "I think that went well."
"You know when I said gain his trust, I didn't mean spend hundreds of dollars on him." Hoseok chuckled, sitting on the couch beside him. He frowned as he picked up a feather that was resting on the cushion. "Do you have a secret pet bird too?"
"A bird flew in today when I went outside." Jungkook said as he returned. "I had to chase it back outside before it pooped."
Hoseok immediately dropped the feather. "I'd better wash my hands then, it might have germs."
"Good thinking." Yoongi said as the younger male took Hoseok's place. The boy just smiled at him, picking up his own feather. "Is it a bad thing if your wings fall out?"
"No, sometimes they do that. It's only bad if my flight ones get damaged or cut ー but that would only matter if I was a bird and flew around a lot."
Hoseok returned, cutting the conversation off before Yoongi could offer to take the boy out again.
"Ready to go?" He asked and the pair nodded, getting up. Jungkook instantly held onto the older male's hand, gripping it tightly.
"Oh my God, this is good. Jungkook, you have to try some." Hoseok said as he offered some of his own dinner to the younger boy. Jungkook shook his head, picking at his own. "You sure? It's really good."
"I'm fine. I have my own."
"Alright. Yoongi, have some then." Hoseok fed the older male before he even had a chance to answer, chuckling as he watched Yoongi eat it. "Good, huh?"
"Yeah, it is." Jungkook stared at the two, frowning as he turned his attention to his own food. He ate a piece of carrot, chewing it slowly. The older two continued to chat about things that didn't interest the younger. Occasionally he would watch them, observe them, but that was about it. When it was time to return home, he was the first one up.
"Can we go watch the show now?" He asked, looking expectantly at Yoongi. The brunette nodded, taking his hand again.
"We just have to pay first."
"I've got it." Hoseok said, going off to the register. Yoongi led the younger back to the car, holding his hand again.
"You ate a bit more tonight... Did you like the food?" He asked as they waited. The boy shrugged. "Do you want me to get you takeout more often?"
"No, that's fine."
"Well alright. If there's anything you want to eat, just tell me."
