chapter thirty six
Tyke woke up in Maicee's arms, making him shake his head; he moved her arms as he stood up. He was fully naked, so he just walked into his bathroom, turned on the water, took a ten-minute shower then got out to his phone ringing.
Sage was calling, making him grab his phone and silence it.
He got dressed and then walked downstairs; seeing the cleaning company allow themselves in, he nodded at them and then went to the refrigerator.
He started checking his phone, looking at all the shit he was tagged in; he couldn't recall half of the party, so watching people's stories was funny to him.
His phone started ringing again, making him answer this time as he put it on speaker, making sure he was still responding to people's messages.
"What are you doing?" Sage asked, as it sounded like she was moving around.
"Bout to fix me something to eat; what you on?"
"Can you take me to the doctor?"
"What time?"
"Now."
"Absolutely not." He chuckled. "I'll put you in a Uber."
"I could put myself in the Uber; I just wanted you to take me."
"I'm hungover; I don't plan on going out of the house today, big mama."
"You had fun at your little party?" She chuckled.
"I don't even know; I know my ass overdid it with the fucking liquor, though."
"Love drinking but can't take it; sounds like you."
"Man, shut up." He chuckled. "Why was it a big ass fight at the end of the party?"
"You was fighting?"
"Hell yeah, niggas tried to tag team E."
"Oh, not Ezra. I lowkey wished I would've come now."
"You should've."
"Can I confide in you without you tripping?"
"What does that mean?"
"Meaning I want to talk to you, but I don't wanna freak you out."
"Wassup?"
"I think I'm pregnant."
Tyke opened his mouth to say something but closed it back. He was going to make a joke, but it sounded like she was scared, so he stopped.
"You telling me because it's mine, or you telling me because we're friends?"
"Both?" She questioned. "I've been feeling funny for a few weeks, but I thought it was because I was nervous about finals. That's why I'm going to the doctor for a blood test. Are you mad?"
"Why would I be mad? We have been having sex. You think you're going to want to keep it?"
"I don't know; how do you feel?"
"Let's just see if you are before we make decisions."
"I'm okay with that; I'm going to call you back when I have the results."
"You want me to order the Uber now?"
"I'll just drive."
"Bet, just let me know, wassup."
Tyke felt like he wasn't breathing for a second, he didn't want her to know, but he was pissed off. He didn't understand how he could've been that stupid to get somebody pregnant; he had been too smart to let this slide.
"Hello? Earth to Tykeem?" Maicee snapped multiple times.
"Wassup?" He asked, looking at her.
"What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing, wassup?"
"Why are you asking me wassup like that?" She scrunched her face up.
"I'm saying wassup because you were calling me."
"Are you okay?"
"I'm good, you?"
"Yeah, you want breakfast, or do you want me to dip?"
"You let me know wassup; you know we've always moved on your time."
"Don't start,"
"Just keeping shit real. We haven't spoken in two months, then all of a sudden, you wanna fuck and spend a night and shit."
"It's not all of a sudden; I've been wanting to do allat that, but I just couldn't put my pride aside. I don't expect you to want to be with me right away, but I'm willing to earn your love back."
"I might've got a girl pregnant, so think about that before you decide you wanna be with me." He remarked before walking away.
Maicee looked at his back until it disappeared; she felt her eyes water as she stood there, confused and sad. She couldn't blame him for living his life because she had broken his heart, but she didn't understand why he was having sex raw.
She felt herself going to cry, so she grabbed her car keys and left without saying anything.
She tried to debate whether she wanted to fight for Tyke or leave him alone.
She felt this was a sign that they weren't meant to be.
But her heart, mind, and body craved him.
~
Haven woke up confused for a bit but calmed down once she saw she was in Ezra's bedroom, the bathroom door was open, and there wasn't any movement, so she figured he went to get something to eat.
For some reason, she felt sticky, so she went to shower. Her legs were very sore, and she knew exactly why, causing her to smirk. She showered for exactly eleven minutes, realizing she forgot to get a towel. She walked out of the bathroom to the drawer he gave her.
She snapped her head to the door as it opened, making sure it was Ezra; once she realized it was him, she continued doing what she was.
"You look so good," Ezra spoke, coming behind her.
"I'm wettt." She dragged out, whining.
"Literally," Ezra mumbled, cupping her vagina.
"Absolutely not; how you had me yesterday, we're fine for a few days."
"I had to make up for lost time."
"It's made up."
"Pussy." He mocked, sitting in his gaming chair and turning on the TV. He was about to say something, but his phone started ringing. "Yo?"
"You in the house?" Tyke asked.
"Why do you sound like that?" He asked, opening his platter of food. "Yeah."
"I need you and Key asap, bro."
"You good?"
"Just call Key; I'm on my way to Flaire's house."
"Nigga, I'm hungry as fuck." Ezra smacked his teeth, biting his bacon. "I'll be there."
"Bet." Tyke hung up, calling Keygan, who didn't answer but called back right away.
"You still at Flaire shit?"
"Yeah." Key yawned. "You trying to jump on the game?"
"Tyke on his way to you; he said he gotta talk to us."
"Fuck he on?"
"Nigga, I don't know. Sounded like he was out of breath and shit, so I don't know wassup."
"Aight, well, you know where I'm at."
"Bet."
Ezra looked at his phone to track where Tyke was; he saw he was twenty-five minutes away, so he nodded his head, eating his food while Haven watched TV.
"You wanna stay here, or are you coming to your house with me?"
"I'll go home; I need to check in with my dad," Haven stated.
Ezra stood up, putting on a shirt leaving the grey Nike shorts on; he put on his Crocs. He grabbed his now empty platter and keys, making sure he had his wallet. He waited for Haven to get her shit together, then they walked out the door driving the five minutes to her house.
"I'll be in there in a sec."
"Okay." Haven leaned over to kiss him.
"Tell Keygan to come out too, please."
"Okay."
Ezra saw a car pull next to him, and he rolled down his window, expecting it to be Tyke but saw Brat's car instead. He waited for her to roll her window down to begin speaking.
"Tyke called you too?"
"Yeah." Brat lied. She was just pulling up cause she was bored, but now she's about to be nosy.
"Oh, there he goes."
"Bet, let me go park." She went to park, as did Tyke; Tyke got in the front seat while Brat got in the back.
"What are you doing here?" Tyke asked, making Ezra look at her like she was stupid.
"You just said he told you to pull up."
"He didn't, but now I'm here and not leaving." She folded her arms, making Ezra chuckle.
"Where the fuck Key at?"
"Nigga, chill the fuck out. You geeking, you drunk? Fuck." Ezra asked.
"He needs this," Brat said, lighting the blunt.
"Definitely do." Tyke snatched it as soon as it was lit.
"Tread lightly bitch."
"Y'all don't fucking listen; I said y'all two," Tyke said as Flaire and Keygan got in the car.
"Oh, we not gang?" Brat said.
"We keeping secrets now? Cause, please let me know wassup." Flaire added.
"Word, if it's just y'all three-"
"I got Sage pregnant." Tyke blurted out as everyone just stared at him. "Say something, the fuck?"
"It's confirmed?" Ezra asked.
"She took a blood test, and they told her it was positive."
Everybody continued staring at him, just like he was speechless, and so were they. Flaire wanted to tell him about himself but knew he didn't need that at the moment, so she leaned back, looking at Key since he was usually the one with the answers.
"Do you want to keep it?" Key asked.
"Is it my choice, though?"
"Overall, probably not, but she'll want to know what's on your mind, so think about that."
"It's my first year of college and her third year. Can we handle a child? Imma have to get a damn job; Imma have to do so much shit."
"I'll be a fine ass aunt." Brat smiled, making everybody look at her. "What? I have been wanting one of us to have a baby, but I didn't want to push that on y'all 'cause we team fuck them kids, but I can't wait to teetee a baby to death."
"Imma call her."
"You don't want to have this conversation in person?" Flaire asked.
"I don't know, man, just shut up." He said, putting the phone on speaker as it rang three times until she answered. "Hello?"
"Hello?" She asked raspily.
"You crying?"
"I'm trying not to, but they just keep coming; I'm so confused and sad."
"Did they say how many weeks you were?"
"Around five weeks."
"What's on your mind?"
"I'm undecided. I don't think I want a baby Tyke." She started sobbing. "But then, how can I kill a baby? Something that turns into someone? I hate this predicament."
"I know what you saying; my head has been fucked up since you told me. I never thought it would be possible, me being a dad, Sage?"
"Me being a mom? Sounds insane." She chuckled.
"We got some time to decide. Did they say the baby looked good?"
"They didn't do an ultrasound; I have that scheduled tomorrow. Would you wanna come?"
"Yeah, what time? I'll come pick you up, and maybe we'll talk some more. I love you, Sage; we got this."
"I love you too." She mumbled before hanging up.
"This some heavy shit," Flaire said, looking at Keygan. "What would you do?"
"If you were pregnant? Shit, what else? Support you whether it's holding ya hand through an abortion or holding your hand through an ultrasound."
"I love you so much." She pouted, grabbing his face to kiss him.
"Y'all really blowing my shit, brah. Shit just made me so mad; I'm bout to lean back there and bleed ya shit!" Tyke said before he yelled the last sentence, making Brat scream while Ezra laughed.
"Tyke!" Brat yelled as she doubled over in laughter.
"Cause why the fuck would y'all stupid asses be on that while I'm going through this the fuck? This why I said just Key and Ezra."
"You, the stupid one fucking bitches and not thinking about condoms!" Flaire looked at him. "Nobody can't tell you what the fuck to do because you obviously don't listen when we told you what to do before you got in this fucking situation."
"Don't act like you're better than me." Tyke turned around and looked at her. "You and Keygan stupid as well 'cause I know y'all don't use condoms."
"Keygan's my boyfriend, the fuck? Yeah, it's not an excuse, but we not fucking other people. You fucking multiple people without condoms, then wanna panic when reality set in. I get you hurt over Maicee, but that doesn't move, stupid nigga. This could've been a different call with worse news."
"I'm tired of you and Key acting like y'all fucking perfect like the nigga not trying to leave you, y'all been planning y'all whole life together and the nigga taking the first chance to leave you so I don't know why you trying to act as that nigga love you that much."
Ezra looked at Keygan, then looked at Flaire, then Tyke, then back to Flaire. The whole car was silent, but he didn't understand why Keygan hadn't said anything. He furrowed his eyebrows.
"I'm just going to get out of the car before I react. Watch out." Flaire said, reaching over Brat before she could even move. She jumped out of the car going into the house leaving Ezra, Brat, Keygan, and Tyke in the car.
They sat in silence for a minute before Ezra cleared his throat, breaking the silence.
"You wrong as hell," Ezra said to Tyke, then looked over to Key.
He was quiet because he was mad. Key knew how to handle his emotions very well, he was very nonchalant and barely gets upset, but when he's upset, he's upset.
"Knowing they both vented to you about how they've been feeling about Key going to college in another state and still decide to throw that up is insane." Brat finally stated. "Because why you come at her head so hard? Because she telling you the fucking truth? Nigga you should've been using fucking condoms, you fucking idiot!"
"Brah, shut the fuck up." Tyke waved her off.
Brat responded, making them go back and forth while Keygan got out of the car; he didn't need to exchange words with Tyke right now. His girlfriend needed him more. He walked back into the house, seeing Haven, Aziel, Indigo, and Devon in the living room.
"What's wrong with both of y'all?" Aziel asked, noting he looked aggravated like Flaire did before she ran to her room.
"Some dumb shit Tyke said; where she go?"
"You good?" Devon asked.
"In her room," Haven asked.
"Yeah, I'm good." Key lied, then walked up the stairs going to Flaire's room, where she was sitting at the desk sewing.
He closed the door, walking closer, seeing her eyes were watery, but he knew she wouldn't let them fall. He sat in the chair next to her, just observing her.
"I'm fine, Key." She mumbled.
"I didn't say anything."
"I know what you thinking."
"Baby, I-"
"Maybe we should just break up." She said, crushing her heart.
"For what? Some dumb shit Tyke said? You think I don't love you, for real?"
"I know you love me, but I've been thinking about this for a while; I don't ever want you to feel like you have to choose between me and your dream. Our first year of college is going to be something new, and if you're worried about me miles away, you're not living your dream."
"How are you going to tell me what I could handle, Flaire?"
"I'm not saying you can't handle it; I won't be." She admitted. "I've never been away from you; there's no way we could do this, Keygan."
"I believe we could." He shrugged. "I had some doubts, so I guess it's your turn, but-"
"Keygan, I do not want to be in a relationship," Flaire said, finally making eye contact. "Why drag out something? Let's end it while we still love each other before we're unable to say that anymore. I don't ever wanna hate you again; we can be friends and always check on each other. Plus, we still have prom and our graduation trip, so it's not like you're out of my life permanently."
"This what you want?"
"Yeah." Flaire nodded.
Keygan stood up and walked out without saying anything else. He saw Devon, and they look at him in confusion, but he walked out anyway; he got out his car keys jumping in his car. He couldn't believe he just got broken up with.
He would've never let anything come between him and Flaire, but she was so scared about their future that she wasn't thinking rationally.
He heard his phone going off; he looked at his screen seeing Ezra's name. He pressed decline just as Ezra called again, then Tyke, then Brat. He turned off his phone and continued driving; he didn't know where he was going but needed some air.
~
"Are you okay?" Haven asked as she and Maicee lay in her bed.
She decided she would be spending the day with Maicee since she was a bit sad because of the Tyke situation. She didn't know what to think, so she couldn't possibly give Maicee advice.
"I know we were broken up, so it's not like he had a baby on me, but I feel like he had a baby on me."
"I couldn't think of Ezra having a baby, so I can't possibly think of what to say."
"If you were in this predicament, would you take him back?"
"Honestly, no." Haven shrugged. "Tyke's about to play football in college while he's trying to pledge, and he's going to have to keep up with his classes. Now add a newborn baby, and it's like you don't exist."
Maicee nodded her head understanding exactly what Haven was saying, and she agreed. It was time to end the era of Tyke and Maicee.
"Haven?" Genesis called out, knocking on her door and then opening it. "Can you drop this off to Devon? My stomach is killing me."
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just Braxton hicks."
"Okay, you coming?"
"To see some fine-ass firefighters? Duh, girl."
Maicee and Haven stood up, taking Maicee's car; Haven was in the process of trying to get her license, so she's been practicing driving. The firehouse was only eight minutes away, so once she got there, she parked in the driveway, making sure not to block the trucks in case they had an emergency.
"Hey, Haven." Coco smiled, making Haven smile.
"Hey Coco, this is my best friend, Maicee. Where's Dev?"
"He's in the lounge with your dad; it's inspection day."
"I was wondering why the firehouse looked so bright today." Haven joked, making Coco laugh.
Haven knew this firehouse like the back of her hand since her mom used to bring her and her sisters almost every day. There used to be some nights they ate family dinner here because Ariel never wanted Aziel to miss out.
"Hey y'all," Haven spoke to the group getting their attention.
"Hey, Haven." A bunch of them spoke back.
"What you doing here, Pumpkin?" Her dad asked as she went to hug her. "Hey, Maicee."
"Hey, Zee." Maicee hugged him.
"Genny asked me to drop this off to Dev." She spoke, handing out the bag so Devon could take it.
She looked around, seeing Milly and Martin at the back table; she looked harder at Milly, seeing he was a bit finer today.
His shoulder-length locs were in barrel twist going towards the back, leaving his dark face more open. His mustache was clean and arched, as well as his beard which was curly and intact. The shirt had on hugged his muscular body. He was just fine.
Milly turned around, glancing around the room and stopping at Haven, who was already looking at him; he smiled and nodded his head toward her. She gave a small smile heading towards their way.
"Hey, Milly and Martin." Haven smiled, hugging both of them as Milly held onto her a little longer. "This is my best friend and sister, Maicee."
"Wassup?" Martin greeted.
"How are you doing?" Milly also greeted.
"Aye, Hay, how is Indigo doing?"
"She still isn't responding to y'all?"
"Nah, and I'm not mad at her for it. She was in my care, and I let her down." Martin said.
"We just miss our favorite girl," Milly added.
"Later, we're going bowling. Y'all should come and talk to her."
"I don't think that's a good idea; it might be like ambushing her," Martin said.
"My sister's stubborn; just make her listen. We're going to the one in Wallington around 10. Come." She said, then looked to Milly. "Both of y'all."
With that, she walked away, saying bye to everybody. They got back into Maicee's car, heading towards Ezra's house.
"When you become so flirty?"
"What'd ya mean?" Haven asked.
"Haven, let's not play stupid for real."
"I don't know." She sighed. "I don't even know, it's like I see Milly all the time, but today he was just so-"
"Fucking fine?"
"Exactly."
"I don't think it's anything wrong with harmless flirting; it's only wrong to act upon it."
"I don't think so because thinking about Ezra flirting with someone else really makes me upset."
"So that's how you move if you aren't okay with Ezra doing something, then you don't."
"I mean, it's not hard; Ezra is the one I love, so why ruin that? Especially when I just got him back."
"Then it's simple, but let me ask you something do Indi like Martin? Or are they just friends? Because he was so damn fine."
"I don't think Indigo's mind is anything but Sevyn. I'll ask her for you, though."
"I'm moving on from Tyke, and it's time to find someone new."
"I'll happily be your wing woman." Haven smiled, pulling in front of Ezra's house. "What time should we meet you there?"
"I'm leaving around 9:30."
"Well, we'll probably meet you there. Ezra takes longer to get dressed than me."
"Okay, love you, see you later."
"Love you." Haven kissed her on the cheek, getting out of the car.
Ezra left the door unlocked for Haven, so she walked directly in, speaking to his parents, Reg, and his brother. She walked into him watching a youtube video and falling asleep; she shook her head, locking his door to strip down and lay with him.
"Hey, pretty girl," He mumbled sleepily.
"Hi, baby." She kissed his cheek lying down. She grabbed her phone, setting an alarm so she wouldn't oversleep.
~
Ezra, Tyke, Blaire, Flaire, Ant, Keygan, and Brat walked onto the campus college with a weird vibe. Key and Tyke were barely speaking, Flaire and Tyke weren't speaking at all, and Keygan and Flaire were avoiding each other altogether.
"This shit doesn't feel like regular, or I'm bugging?" Blaire asked Brat putting his arm over her shoulder.
"The group beefing," Brat said.
"Damn, still, it's been bout a week now."
"Flaire could hold a grudge better than anybody I know."
"So why her and Keygan broke up?"
"She's scared for their future, so she's pushing him away."
"Stupid as fuck, why when y'all girls feel anything that's y'all go to?"
"It's a coping mechanism." Brat shrugged. "If I was going away for college, would you think our relationship would survive?"
"Hell yeah, 'cause I'm going where ever my wife goes."
"Baby." She pouted. "Makes me wanna give you the baby you keep begging for."
"Don't tempt me." He smacked her butt, making her laugh as they made it to the dorm they were supposed to be in.
"This shit jumping, I'm finna show my ass!" Tyke yelled, already tipsy.
"Don't do too much; I'm not babysitting nobody tonight," Ezra warned, looking at the group.
"C'mon twin, shot for shot."
"Period!" Brat yelled, grabbing Flaire's hand and following Tyke.
"You good? You quieter than you usually are." Ant asked Keygan.
"I'm just living." He chuckled high as a cloud.
Keygan decided to get crossfaded so he wouldn't feel anything, he was using alcohol and drugs as a wall defense, and it was working. He's been smoking from sun up to down with throwing alcohol in there; this breakup hurt worse than the first one because he didn't think they'll ever be at this place again.
Ezra shook his head for his friend group; it felt like he was the glue holding everybody together.
An hour into the party, Tyke was in between two females while they danced on him; Keygan and Ezra were in the kitchen talking to some girls; Brat and Flaire were dancing by themselves while Blaire and Ant watched, making sure nobody bothered them. Ezra and Blaire were the only sober ones, and both didn't mind; they needed to be everybody's rock.
"BFF, come with me to get some air." Flaire stumbled towards him, holding Flaire up; he walked out of the dorm, making sure she was good.
"You and Keygan-"
"There's no me and Keygan." She chuckled.
"Why did you get back with him just to break his heart, man?" Ezra asked, kind of irritated by her.
"How was I supposed to know we were going to be like this again? I would've stuck with Ra if I knew this, Ezra. He's not the only one heartbroken, so don't come at me like that."
"But you're the one who broke it off."
"And he's the one leaving." She said, making Ezra stop to look at her.
"Flaire, he-"
"He's not leaving me. I know, but I- I just don't wanna talk about this right now. I'm drunkkk!" She yelled, laughing just as her phone started ringing. "Hello? Yeah, he right here. Hold on. Here."
"Who this?" Ezra asked, looking at the phone and seeing Haven's name put on speaker. "Why didn't you just call my phone?"
"Ezra, I called your phone like forty fucking times."
Ezra patted himself, then stopped remembering he was using his phone for GPS and left it on the stand in the car.
"Oh my bad, baby, I left my phone in the car."
"Okay, well, are you on your way back?"
"What do you mean?"
"What do you mean what I mean? I told you we were going bowling tonight, Ezra."
"You said tomorrow." He furrowed his eyes in confusion.
"I said tomorrow yesterday!"
"No, you didn't cause I would've been witcho right na."
"Ezra, I can send you the messages! I said I wanted to go out because Indigo had been in the house too long! You've been out with Tyke since he found out he got ol girl pregnant, and I just asked for one damn day, Ezra."
"Haven, stop yelling at me. I get you mad but watch yo self for real."
"No, because I am mad! I only see you at night like I'm just a booty call, and I don't like that. The first two nights of comforting Tyke were cool, but it's been six days of you saying fuck me to be there for somebody who did this to himself."
"I'm not arguing over no phone, Haven; we could talk about this tonight when we get back from this college."
"Did you just listen to anything I said? I said you make me feel like a booty call because I've been seeing you after twelve for the past few days, and you just said fuck it; Imma do it again. We could talk about this tomorrow, do not come to my house tonight. Be safe, and I love you."
He couldn't even say it back because she hung up so fast; he shook his head, chuckling.
"Fuck allat right now, let's get drunk."
"Fuck it, we ball!" Flaire yelled, laughing.
