chapter thirty-one

Flaire looked at all the evidence files with her face scrunched up; she figured out her dad's case within two weeks.

Once she got her dad out, she would sue the police department also.

She and Keygan were currently on their way to Brat's house, it was time to get a lawyer, and she was grateful she knew a great one.

"It's this house? Damn, Brat." Keygan said, looking at the big ass house they had.

Flaire pulled out her phone to call Brat; she answered on the first ring, making Flaire laugh.

"Why are you always in my head? I was literally about to click on your contact; I miss you, BFF." Desiree said with her feet in the air. "It's boring back home."

"I miss you too; I was calling because I sent you something. The package at your front door."

"Ooou, I love gifts, and you know that!" Brat ran out of her room down the stairs.

Flaire walked to the front door standing there waiting to hear the locks as soon as Desiree opened the door, she screamed, jumping on her. She hugged her so tightly, making Flaire laugh; she was so dramatic.

"I love this for me." Brat smiled, hugging Keygan. "Mommy's going to be so happy."

She grabbed her hand, rushing her into the house. "Mommy's guess who's here."

"Hey, Blaire, baby." Tomika said with her back turned. "I didn't know you were coming this week."

"Mommy, turn."

"Oh, my Flaire Bear and Key!" She smiled, dropping her spoon to hug them. "Y'all finally visiting; thank God she acts like she can't breathe without you."

"She's very needy." Flaire rolled her eyes mockingly.

"Oh, please." Brat waved her off.

"I also came here for Leval. Is he here?"

"Yeah, he's in his office. He doesn't like to be disturbed, but we'll disturb him anyway." Tomika smiled as they all walked to his office.

"Baby?" Tomika called out, knocking on the door.

"Yes, mi amour?" He asked, waiting for her to open the door. "Flaire and Keygan."

"Wassup, man?" Keygan dabbed him up after he hugged Flaire.

"How long are y'all staying with us for? Let's show you around." Leval smiled.

"That's no problem, but I came here to talk to you." She said, making him furrow his eyebrows as she dug in her bag, pulling out an envelope which he took seeing hundreds of dollars. "That's only two thousand, and I know your rate is almost ten times that, but I was hoping you would give a family discount until I have the rest."

"Mi amour, what's wrong?" He grabbed her hand.

"Flaire, what happened? You ran into some trouble?" Tomika asked, getting worried.

Flaire pulled out the manilla folders, which held the trial transcripts and all the evidence of her mother's case.

"My dad didn't kill my mom." She told him. "My dad finally told me the truth of everything, and I requested the case files to see if I can get him out of jail."

"What? That's what Genesis was hiding?" Brat asked. "Wow, I'm sorry, BFF."

"Detective Jonas shot my dad first, then my mom then killed himself. They didn't thoroughly investigate the case, so I would also like to sue the police department."

"How do you know he's telling the truth, Flaire baby?" Tomika asked.

"My dad got shot in his face and also grazed in his head; in the hospital reports, it shows that, but in the trial, it only talks about the head wound. What person who's committing suicide will shoot himself in the jaw?"

"That's enough to open the case but not to win; that's circumstantial at best."

"She's not done," Keygan said.

"My dad said my mom called 911; I talked to a dispatcher who gave me this recording." Flaire pulled out her MacBook, which held the file.

"911, what's your emergency?" The dispatcher asked.

"My husband has been shot, 834 Spring-" Was all she got out as a scuffling sound could be heard.

"Ma'am, are you okay? Are you in immediate danger?" The 911 dispatcher asked. "Stay on the phone; we'll try to track your location."

"Jonas, stop. Help." It could be heard faintly before the line with blank.

"Did you hear her tell him to stop and ask for help?" Flaire asked. "How can she tell anybody to stop if she was reportedly killed first? And she said her husband was shot, meaning my dad."

"Also, they found DNA under her nails which was Jonas. They knew they were having an affair, so they didn't think anything of it but looking at his autopsy, there are no scratches besides his face and neck, which he was choking her."

"Why would he kill them if Aziel caught them in bed together?" Leval asked.

"My mom was pregnant, and my dad had reversed his vasectomy without telling her. After he shot my dad, she confessed, thinking he'll let her call the police."

Leval looked at all the evidence, not saying anything; he scanned through each page, noticing something.

"You see where he's laying and this blood pattern?" Leval pointed out. "That means something was moved around or staged. From what I'm looking at, you have a case."

"So you'll help me?" Flaire asked.

"Of course." He handed back her money. "You'll never have to pay for my services, mi amour."

"Thank you, Leval!" She rushed into his arms. "My dad's going to be so happy; he's going to be upset at first 'cause he told me to leave it alone, but he'll be out of jail."

"I have to make a few calls, but Monday or Tuesday, I will be filing an adjudication also reopening the case so he can be left off freely. I will request a court date or ruling by the end of the week to allow the cops to try to cover their asses. I have no doubt your father won't be out of jail by the following week."

"I don't want to tell him until you see him; I want you to tell him the good news."

"No problem, let me make some calls." He told them, walking to this desk. "Oh, Flaire, can you email me that recording? Here's my email."

"No problem."

Flaire felt a sense of relief; a heavy weight was finally lifted off her shoulders.

"Let me show y'all to y'all room!" Brat smiled. "I was so bored."

"We could tell with your excited ass you need to relax." Keygan looked at her.

"When you settle in, come downstairs. I'll show y'all around."

She walked out of the room as Flaire sat down, blowing out a breath; she still couldn't believe her father would be getting out of jail. She couldn't believe it.

"Baby, I have to tell you something," Keygan said.

"Is it good news?"

"Maybe." He asked, pulling out an envelope and handing them to her.

She furrowed her eyebrows, opening the envelope containing many college acceptance letters. Number one colleges such as Harvard, MIT, Columbia, and more.

"Mrs.Jefferson put in a few applications for me without my knowledge. She wanted me to have every option I could."

"So, are you interested in any? You're trying to tell me you're leaving?"

"I didn't want to, baby, but I want to."

"Which one?"

"MIT sounds like the top choice right now."

Flaire stood up as she felt like her heart dropped; she put on a fake smile and turned his way. She hugged him, closing her eyes so the tears wouldn't drop.

"I'm so proud of you, baby." She whispered in his ear.

"Be honest with me, baby." He said, not falling for the fake smile.

"I'm hurt, but you do what's best for you; our relationship can survive anything. A few miles not going to change that."

"It's not definite right now, just a thought. I just know wherever I go, I'll never leave your side."

"Never." She kissed his hands still putting on the fake smile. "Let's go downstairs."

Tyke looked at his phone lowkey, still hoping a text from Maicee would come through, but it didn't; it had been for two weeks, and whenever she saw him in person, she would act like he wasn't there.

He looked at her house, debating whether he was going in. He ashed the blunt and then got out of the car, ringing the doorbell.

Gina opened the door with an attitude but changed her face noticing who it was. She smiled immediately, hugging him.

"Hey, ma." Tyke smiled.

"Hey baby, I just asked that damn girl where you been."

"I just been chilling." He chuckled. "She here?"

"You know she don't get no damn life since Haven on punishment; she's upstairs."

Tyke nodded his head and then jogged up the stairs. Seeing Maicee was doing her hair, she looked at the door stopping for a moment, then went back to her hair.

She wanted to smile so badly but she covered her excitement.

"Wassup?" Tyke spoke, standing behind her.

"Wassup?" She repeated.

"You single now?" He chuckled.

"It is what it is."

"That's cool; I just wanted to be sure you understand I'm not with the back-and-forth shit no more. We been together since the beginning of my freshmen year, and I'm tired of fighting for this relationship more than you. Shit is making me feel like I'm a bitch."

"Tyke, please stop acting like you are innocent."

"I'm not brah, I'm nowhere innocent, but I try!" He raised his voice. "I try and try and try and try, and you just have life so fucking easy not putting the effort into this shit. I'm tired; I'm not putting more energy into this, this shit is literally draining as fuck."

"Then don't, Tyke."

"What you think I'm here for? Imma man so instead of making shows Imma come tell you this shit to ya face, this shit is over brah. I ain't rocking with you no more, you single for real."

Maicee loved Tyke with every part of her heart, but she could never find herself vulnerable to him for some reason. She hated when they would argue because she knew what he was saying was true, and she wanted to run after him, but she wouldn't.

She watched him turn around and close her door. Her eyes started to water as she heard his foot steps disappear, she blinked a few times to get the tears to stop then continued doing her hair.

If he didn't want to be with her, she wouldn't be crying over him. She'll move on.

Ezra walked into the living room seeing his brother and Keygan brother playing the game making him smirk. He saw him and Keygan all over again.

"Wassup E?" Keygan brother, Aziz, said making his brother, Ira, turn around.

"Sup Zi, you can't speak to ya brother?"

"Damn nigga, give me a chance." Ira said making Ezra chuckle. "Why you even home? Ain't see you in a while."

"What? I'm always home." Ezra furrowed his eyebrows.

Since Haven was on punishment, he spent mostly everyday in the house. If he wasn't at school or with his brothers, he was in the house.

"Not when I'm here."

"Ira, did you see my housekeys?" Regina asked.

"Yeah, it's in the bowl by the door."

"Damn, nobody speak to me anymore?" Ezra said as Regina glanced at him then walked away.

"Fuck you do to her?" Ira asked.

"I don't know." Ezra furrowed his eyebrows walking after her. "Fuck is your problem?"

"I have no problem Ezra."

"So wassup with you walking past me and shit? Since when we was onnat?"

"A lot of shit new to me also but it's whatever."

"What's that spose to mean?"

"Do you need something Ezra? I'm currently in the middle of leaving and you holding me back."

"Know what, nah you could slide." He chuckled shaking his head.

If she wanted to be childish instead of just talking to him then he was going to let her do that.

She opened the door as he saw Don standing at his car waiting for her, he smiled at her as she returned the smile. Don nodded his head out of respect as Ezra did the same.

"Aye Ira, Reg talked to you bout some shit I did?"

"Yeah but it's something y'all gotta work out, she asked me not to tell you until she was ready."

"Bet." Ezra nodded not pressuring the situation just as his phone started ringing making him see Brat was calling. "What you want ugly?"

"I'm pissed at you."

"Add on to the fucking list." He chuckled shaking his head. "Why are you mad at me Desiree?"

"Cause why you not here? And where my twin? Like how you gang but you can't drive here for the weekend?"

"Niggas ain't extend a invitation."

"A invitation?" She scrunched her face up. "Since when we invite each other to shit, gang?"

"You right, gang." He chuckled.

"So get my twin and start y'all drive."

"Let me call you back." Ezra shook his head FaceTiming Tyke. "Fuck you on?"

"Shit, leaving Maicee house on the way home. Feel like playing GTA when I get home?"

"You feel like taking a drive with me?"

"Where?"

"To Brat shit with Key and Flaire."

"Fuck yeah, who car we taking?"

"Nigga, I'm not trusting your car." Ezra chuckled. "You on the way home anyway, just pack a bag and don't take forever."

"Aight bet." He hung up making Ezra call back. "What?"

"You good son?" Ezra asked noticing Tyke was off.

"Just over a lotta shit dealing with this girl but I ain't stressing on it, it is what it is."

"Shit, we finna go out here and have fun. Fuck these bitches."

"Period poooh!" Tyke dragged out. "Just text me when you on ya way."

"Bet."

Ezra hung up going upstairs going to his closet grabbing his duffle grabbing a couple fits and shoes putting them in there. He decided to take a quick shower, it was now six and by time they got there it'll be around nine going on ten but he knew Desiree wasn't going to let them be in the house so he prepared his self to be lit.

Thirty five minutes later, he was in the car on his way to Tyke house. When he was five minutes from Tyke house he texted him to come outside then a thought ran across his head. He positioned his phone Facetiming Haven.

"You was sleep pretty girl?"

"Mhm." She groaned with her eyes still closed making him smirk.

She was so damn beautiful.

"I'm not gon hold you up then, I thought you should know I'm going to Brat house."

"Wait, I'm confused." She sat up. "You're about to drive there by yourself?"

"No, Tyke coming to the car right now."

"Why are you going?"

"Because I feel like I need a break."

"From me?"  She furrowed her eyebrows.

"What? No pretty girl. From this damn city, life period. I needa go have fun."

"Okay but why do you have to go far to do that?" She asked just as Tyke got into the car. "I don't understand why you think you can just do things then oh hey let me tell my girlfriend."

"Because I can. Haven I told you because it's inconsiderate as fuck to go to another state without letting you know wassup but I wasn't asking for permission and I think that's what you want. I can do what the fuck I want-"

"You can not do what the fuck you want!" Haven cut him off making Tyke push his head back in shock as Ezra chuckled driving off. "I'm your girlfriend and I'm not saying ask me for permission but telling me you're going to another state while in the process of going to another state is not it."

"Haven, what the fuck does it matter anyway? You're on punishment, it ain't like I could see your ass anyway. Me in another state ain't doing shit for your ass. Every time I'm not in the house it's a problem. I'm not on punishment with you the fuck."

"At this point, you're moving like your single and you can just tell me if that's what you want."

"I wanna be single because I'm not sitting in the house miserable when I could go enjoy myself with my brothers? It is what it is then Haven."

"Then be single." She chuckled hanging up.

"Bitches is crazy bro." Ezra said out of frustration.

Haven been tripping lately, she was really starting to bug him more than she ever did. She was going to push him to start hurting her feelings more because he was over the shit she been pulling.

"That ain't even sound like Hay."

"Bro, I told you she been tripping lately."

"Dick make females act different."

"Nah, it's something else. I just don't know what but if she keep being childish I'm not going to care to find out either."

"A word." Tyke chuckled turning on the TV.

"Wassup with you and Mai?"

"Bro, I walked into her room and her face lit up fast as fuck but she made sure she didn't show any emotion. I tried to give her a chance but nah I'm through trying more than her. Y'all know I don't be serious for shit but when I'm serious I'm serious and she still taking me as a joke so now she finna see this shit over for real."

"Maicee love the shit out of you but she going to realize that shit too late. Females don't understand sometimes they're the only thing stopping them from being happy. You've done some bullshit in the past but you always fighting more than her and I know that shit tiring."

Tyke eyes started watering making Ezra glance over at him as he tried to hurriedly wipe his face. Tyke silently cried while Ezra decided to just let him deal with it without making it a big deal.

Tyke wouldn't say it but he was heartbroken. Losing Maicee was wrecking him.

"You need a hug bro?" Ezra asked pulling out to the side of the road grabbing his shoulder.

"I'm good." Tyke chuckled. "Thanks bro."

"Fuck it, we finna go out here and get all this shit out our head. Different state, different mindset."

"I'm with it."

~

"I'm so muhfuckin drunk!" Brat yelled standing on the couches while Flaire recorded her.

Brat and Tyke went shot for shot so they were currently the drunkest ones. Flaire was third behind them while Keygan and Ezra was tipsy but they knew they couldn't get flat out drunk.

"My squad go crazy!" Brat yelled as Tyke put his arm over her shoulder.

"I dare a nigga try to play, Imma lay his ass down like he lazy!" Tyke yelled as him and Brat went bar to bar while Flaire recorded laughing.

"I laugh at that joke lil nigga with your funny ass!" Flaire yelled.

"BFF, this our shit!" Brat yelled as Flaire grabbed the Deleon bottle drinking straight from it.

Flaire grabbed Keygan hand pushing him on the couch as she jumped on him making him bust out laughing as she was grinding all on him twerking.

"Oooh all I see is signs, all I see is dollar signs!" Brat yelled throwing ones on Flaire and Keygan making her stand on the couch putting her ass all in his face.

Keygan stood up grabbing the bottle from her as she started grinding into him, he smacked her ass repeatedly drinking from the bottle.

"This is a fucking vibe!" Brat yelled laughing as she continued recording them. "Where the fuck is my mannnn?"

Some girl randomly walked up to Ezra, she tried to dance on him but he told her he was good as her friend started dancing with Tyke.

Everything she was throwing, Tyke was catching it.

"That's right twin!" Brat laughed. "Ezra, catch that girl shit."

"Get the fuck out my face." Ezra laughed.

Brat stopped recording deciding to take a seat while everyone else was dancing, some guy walked to her making her roll her eyes.

Ever since she got into a relationship, she hated other niggas.

"I'm fine." She smiled before she could say anything.

"Your nigga must be round." The guy chuckled.

"And I am." Ezra spoke wrapping his arm around her waist.

"Oh aight, your bitch fire."

"Yeah, she know she is. Watch ya mouth though for shit go left in this bar." He spoke moving his arm from around her waist standing in front of her.

"No disrespect." He chuckled. "But don't think I'm pussy."

"Hol up hol up hol up, it's smokeee?" Tyke drunk ass yelled.

"Free smoke!" Keygan chuckled standing behind him.

"This nigga ain't shaking nothin, we good." Ezra said since he didn't come down here to fight.

The guy chuckled walking away, Ezra knew niggas at bars always tried that shit then some shit would happen so he knew it was time to go before they got drunker.

"We out." Ezra told them.

"Aye Brat, your mother gon mind me bringing her back?"

"Her and Leval went out of town until tomorrow night. Issa party!" She yelled.

"Can we drop my friend off then? I can't leave her." The girl spoke.

"Come on, we out." Ezra told them as they grabbed their bottles.

He was having fun but he couldn't stop thinking bout Haven, he missed his babygirl. He couldn't wait to FaceTime her.
