chapter forty-eight
"I love me some him, I'll never love this way again. I love me some youuu." Flaire sang, rubbing Keygan's beard while she stopped at a red light as he recorded.
She looked to the camera, then smiled, kissing his lips, then looked back to the streets as the light turned green. She couldn't contain the smile on her face, and she felt like her face would never revert.
They've been home from their seven-day trip to Aruba for three days now, and she was already missing everything about being laid up with her man on the beach. She felt like her relationship couldn't get better, but that would be naive thinking.
"Y'all aggravating as fuck yo." Keygan's little brother, Kael, sucked his teeth making Keygan chuckle.
"Nigga, you didn't have to come with us."
"I had to pick up my shoes."
"And you got parents with yo broke ass."
"Broke? Boy, we're in the same boat. Our parents fund both of our lifestyles nigga."
"Right, we could never be broke as long as our parents got it." Ezra's little brother, Elias, jumped into the conversation dabbing Kael up.
"Y'all still sound broke." Flaire told them. "When y'all going to get into a relationship?"
"Why would we bring sand to the beach?" Elias said making Keygan bust out laughing.
"Word, we freshmen and we're on Varsity football. It's too many out here to be choosing." Kael smirked.
"So y'all don't wanna be in relationships at all?" Flaire asked trying to find a park.
"Maybe in two to three years but we just got to high school, I don't want to be answering to nobody. My momma already be blowing me up too much." Elias shook his head.
"Word, look at Key. He been in a relationship for his whole life; imagine everything he missed out on. Then don't get me on the times y'all beefing, he can't breathe without you sometimes. I don't ever wanna be that dependent on anybody."
"I'm not missing out on shit." He looked back making both of them suck their teeth. "Real shit, the best thing I've found in a bitch was what they had to offer between they legs without that they annoying and they don't have personalities."
"Watch your mouth."
"That's my fault Braveheart," He kissed Flaire's knuckle. "Y'all going to find out soon, having sex with different bit- women not gon be fun after a while. You gon want the connection, the loyalty, shit sometimes even the arguments."
"But you and Flaire only been with each other, so how do you know about fucking other bitches?" Elias asked.
"You remember that other bitch he was messing with, the one with the lisp." Kael reminded him.
"Stop referring women to bitches." Flaire told them.
"Flaire was the first, and going to be the last, but she wasn't the only, and that's on me. If I could only have been with Flaire, I would've."
"I'm still confused on how y'all got together anyway, I was told it was supposed to be E and Flaire." Elias said.
"Our parents always thought it was because Keygan used to bully me, they thought he didn't have feelings for me at all." Flaire smiled.
"Whole time I'm bullying her, I'm planning our wedding." Keygan rubbed her thighs as she smiled into her shoulder. "I had a crush on Flaire for three years before I finally told her, and she was my girl the next day."
"Three years? Damn, you don't got no game." Elias shook his head, making them laugh as Flaire opened the door.
They walked to the mall while still joking and laughing. Flaire and Keygan walked through the mall behind them, holding hands and making small conversation.
"I'm going to go into the fabric store," Flaire announced as they were about to pass it.
"Nah, we'll go in with you," Elias said, feeling overprotective.
"I'm good, y'all go get y'all shoes and I'll come find y'all. I don't wanna go into the shoe store plus I'll probably be longer."
"You sure?" Kael asked.
"I know if I need y'all, y'all come." She smiled.
"Call me before you walk out of the store." Keygan kissed her and then walked out.
She sighed in relief, she felt so at home shopping for fabric. This was the mental break she needed.

Tyke watched his mother, Eve, Sage's mother, Nora, and Sage talk about the baby shower. Since finding out, Eve has been home more often, and she has talked about the baby more than anything.
Tyke looked at the new ultrasound, which had "I am a boy" written on it. As soon as the GYN announced a boy, it was like he had tunnel vision. He saw the future where he would teach his son how to throw a football properly, watching him take his first steps, waiting for him to say his first words, giving him the sex talk. It was that moment where he realized he would actually be a dad, and he couldn't wait.
"What are you doing regarding school?" Eve asked.
"I'm taking summer classes starting next week then I'll transfer to online classes for the next year. Once he turns one, I'm thinking of going back since it'll be my last year."
"What's your major?"
"Health science." She smiled. "I'm going to become an occupational therapist for kids."
"That's such a rewarding career." Eve touched her hand smiling. "You have such a good head on your shoulder, how did you meet my knucklehead?"
"Funny enough, we met because Brat fought my sister because she had sex with Ezra while they were together."
Eve gasped. "This is the girl Brat consistently told us was there, but Ezra kept denying?"
"Yes." She chuckled. "I think Tyke was with Maicee or they were just starting out so he told me he wasn't interested. I've never had someone deny me but I love an honest man so I liked him from afar but I never let it show because I would never be anyone's side piece."
"Of course not." Eve smiled.
"I went to Franklin, and he was touring the campus. Surprisingly, I was his assigned tourist. We laughed, flirted, and went to dinner. He was in a very dark place once he and Maicee broke up, so I became the friend that I knew he needed. One day, we got a bit too drunk, and I can say I was feeling bolder, so I kissed him."
"I'm glad you were there for him, I knew he loved Maicee but I didn't think he took her that serious."
"He took her very seriously, and he took the breakup very hard. I feel like it bothered everything about him, it made him question himself."
"I'm disappointed I couldn't comfort him." Eve shook her head, watching Tyke look at the ultrasound.
"I can say it's vise versa."
"What do you mean?"
"He's disappointed he couldn't comfort you during your chemo. He feels like he was selfish and should've known something."
"I have to talk to him."
"Indeed you do, I think it would be good for both of y'all moving forward."
"May I ask, do you want a relationship with him?"
"I did, but Tyke has healing to do, and so do I. I'm okay with what we are right now, we're best friends and we're going to coparent so amazingly. He's going to be an amazing father."
"He will and you'll be a good mother as well." Eve looked over at him, still looking at the ultrasound.
She didn't understand when her son became a man, this wasn't the same person she remembered. He held pain, but he also used that pain to grow into something that was unrecognizable, and she loved that. He was her proudest accomplishment.
~
"Are you ready?" Regina asked Indigo as they blew up balloons.
"I am." Indigo smiled.
"Are you packed?"
"Yes ma'am." She smiled harder.
Indigo would be leaving for California for three weeks for a cheerleading camp and she couldn't wait. No drama, no pain, just her and cheerleading. She knew she fell out of love with the sport but she couldn't wait to fall back in.
"You're glowing." Regina smiled. "I haven't saw this yet."
"Sevyn's been gone six months today, but for the first time ever, I feel like myself."
Regina went to respond but stopped seeing Devon. he looked around the event hall, looking at all the decorations while dropping off a table. He did a double-take seeing Regina and Indigo, he quickly went back out.
"Y'all haven't made up yet?"
"I don't know how to apologize to him."
"He'll understand and he'll probably feel better than trying to avoid you. Plus, he probably has more to say to you now that you're calmer."
"I've never been that mad at Devon, I don't know how to."
"Then stop torturing him and allow him to be your big brother as he always been."
"You're right." She nodded. "Is Don coming?"
"He's working right now, he says he might come towards the end if he isn't too tired."
"Are you ready for Hawaii bitch?"
"Bitch, am I?!" She cheered. "I spoke to his momma on the phone the other day and she kept telling me she can't wait for me to come. I've never felt so welcome by a man I was dating family."
"When you was dating Ezra, Esha didn't make you feel welcome?"
"Esha hated me." She laughed. "She thought I was fast and troublesome which in fact was a bit true."
"It's so funny, she didn't like you with Ezra but now she's basically your mom."
"She isn't basically, that's my mom." She smiled. "She told me if I wasn't of age already, she would've legally adopted me. She's everything I used to wish for in a mom, I never have to know what it feels to not have a mom again."
Too busy smiling, she didn't realize Indigo feelings got a bit hurt. Regina looked to her and immediately stopped smiling grabbing her hand.
"I'm sorry, that was dumb to say."
"No, it wasn't, you're absolutely right. You have all right to brag about your mom, I brag about my mom even though she's not here. It hurts, but I'm happy for you."
"Where y'all want this?" Milly asked carrying food.
"Over there." Indigo pointed.
"I just know this food about to be so good, I haven't had baby shower food in forever." Regina smiled. "Then Tyke finna have a baby shower too, two times the food in one month."
"You're a fat ass yo." Indigo laughed.
~
Keygan, Elias, and Kael walked out of the store with bags in their hands. Keygan was typing on his phone, not looking up, as he bumped into a girl. he immediately reached out to stop her from falling. Once she was standing upright, he backed up and moved his hands.
"You still have me falling for you." Sapphire smiled.
"That was cute." Sapphire's cousin, Kamani, chuckled.
"This the bitch with the lisp, right?" Elias whispered to Kael who nodded.
Keygan didn't see a point of standing so he attempted to walk around her but she stepped in front of him.
"You miss me?"
"Absolutely not."
"Why you still acting like that towards me?"
"Like what?"
"Like we didn't settle our differences, we were having conversations even after you and Flaire got back together."
Furrowing his eyebrows, Keygan tilted his head. "Sending you pictures of me and my wife telling you to leave me alone was conversations?"
"Now you know that wasn't you, I remember you telling me Flaire used to text girls off of your phone as if it was you. She blocked me, too."
"She ain't beat you bad enough to not say her name?" Elias asked making Kael laugh.
"Wasn't she crying yelling somebody to get her off her?" Kael added.
"Flaire never had to check a bitch cause she know I'm handling that," Keygan told her.
"We were good together." She smiled. "I miss you Keygan, let me come over tonight."
"You're delusional yo." Keygan's eyes widened a bit.
"I don't mind being a secret for a night."
"You want her?" Keygan looked to his little brother.
"She could suck dick?" Kael asked.
"Barely." He shrugged. "She probably got better though."
"Then I'm good, I don't need another bitch who I gotta teach."
"Shit, I don't mind. What's your Instagram?" Elias held out his phone. "Bring her too."
"Keygan, you're being so disrespectful." Sapphire's feelings began hurting.
"I don't give a fuck about disrespecting you, when I step you better not get in front of me or imma push you. We don't got shit to talk about and stop hitting me up on spam pages before my wife find out and beat your ass."
"Again," Elias added.
Keygan chuckled, stepping, but Sapphire stepped in front of him again. he sighed, not wanting to really put his hands on her.
"It's a problem?" He heard from behind him, seeing Flaire with bags in her hand.
"She ke-"
"Hold on baby," She stood in front of him handing her bags to Elias who glady took them. "I don't want you to answer me. Is there a problem? Is you coo?"
"I'm cool," Sapphire said.
"So why is he repeating his self? I know I was pretty far so I might've heard wrong but didn't he ask you to move twice?"
"He definitely did sis." Kael instigated.
"Keygan, do you want Sapphire romantically?"
"No baby," He wrapped his arms around her waist leaning down to rest his head in the crook of her neck.
"Do you want her as a friend?"
"Haven't crossed my mind."
"Say it again."
"I don't want Sapphire in my life."
"He has told you four different ways and I'm only going to tell you once. Unless Keygan invites you back into his life, he doesn't exist. You're going to take senior pictures with dental implants because I'm going to make sure I kick your front teeth out if I have to repeat myself." She smiled.
Flaire jumped at Sapphire making both her and her cousin flinch, she laughed loudly along with Elias and Kael. She grabbed her bags from Kael then walked ahead of them, Keygan smirked following behind her.
It was rare seeing Flaire check women for him since he always did it his self but he couldn't deny it was a turn-on seeing her be so possessive. He wondered if that was toxic, he'll talk to his therapist about it.
"Are y'all coming with us?" Flaire asked as they walked to the car.
"Where?" Kael asked.
"Genesis and Devon baby shower."
"Hell yeah, I'm hungry as fuck." Elias asked. "Shit Indigo gon be there, right?"
"Boy bye." Flaire laughed not entertaining him.
"She the only one I'll ever settle for." Kael smiled.
"Shit, no offence Indigo the best looking one out of y'all." Elias smirked. "You a close second sis."
"I never cared if my sisters look better than me. I know I'm beautiful right along with them."
"Don't get me wrong, you bad as fuck-" Keygan turned to look at him. "This why I didn't wanna say it."
"You know he gets real sensitive about her." Kael laughed. "Simp ass like a dog chasing a bone."
"Wait, Brat there too right? I heard she's single again, too." Elias smiled.
Flaire pressed play on a song and turned the volume up making Keygan laugh as he grabbed her hand. He went to ESPN looking at the scores while Flaire sang to multiple songs, Fifteen minutes later, they were pulling into the rental hall parking lot.
"Y'all could go in, I gotta talk to her real quick."
They didn't say anything getting out of the car, meanwhile, she turned the car off, then put her leg to her face to lean onto it. Keygan reached out, moving a strand of hair out of her face, then smirked while she softly smile. He reached into his pocket placing down a ring box on the arm rest making her furrow her eyebrows.
"What is this?"
"Open it." He smiled.
She looked at him again, then reached for the box. Once she opened it, a little light began shining. Her jaw slightly opened, seeing the 2.5-carat pear-shaped ring. She dropped it on the armrest and covered her mouth.
"Keygan, what is this?"
"I want to marry you." He admitted. "I've known I wanted to marry since I was in third grade baby."
"Keygan." Flaire covered her mouth with tears running down her face.
"I'm not saying I want us to be married right now, we have plans, but I want you to know I'm serious about you. I've always been. Everybody makes fun of me being obsessed with you and I never mind because I am. You're my essential need." He smirked. "Will you marry me, beautiful girl?"
"Yes baby." Flaire smiled jumping into his arms while she sobbed.
He smiled holding back his own tears, he chuckled holding onto her waist while rubbing her back. If it was one thing he was sure about it was Flaire and he knew he could live without a lot of things but she wasn't one of them.
"Put it on me baby." She smiled, holding her hand out.
Keygan smiled, sliding the ring on her finger; it was the perfect size. She looked at her hand, and it instantly made her nails look better. The ring was a bit heavy, and she knew she would have to get used to this being on her finger but she would never take it off.
"Let's get in there." Keygan said.
"Boy bye, we're about to go to my house real quick."
"For what? You- Oh." He laughed. "I'm with whatever you on baby."
"Then put your seatbelt on, this pedal about to go through the car with how fast I'm finna drive."
~
Haven walked around the baby shower, making sure everyone was having a good time, although she wasn't. She kept glancing at Milly who haven't looked at her once, she haven't spoke to him in three weeks and she didn't think it would bother her that much but it did more than it should.
"You want something to drink, baby?" Ezra asked breaking her thoughts.
"No, thank you."
"You good?"
"No,"
"What's wrong?"
"I'm missing Aruba." She pouted. "You, me, and the beach was everything I needed."
"We could run that back, just me and you baby." He kissed her forehead walking off.
She watched Ezra until he started talking to his little brother, she looked over at Milly who was playing with Alana. She decided this was her chance and she walked towards them, Alana smiled waving at her aunty.
"Hey Milly."
"'Sup Haven?" He nodded never looking at her.
"How have you been?"
"Cooling as always."
"That's good, I-um." She began playing with her fingers twisting her lips. "I miss you, Milly."
"Haven, I watched you be with that man this whole party. Why you in my face?"
"Like I said I miss you."
"I got your drunk messages and calls Haven, I heard everything you had to say."
"So why are you acting like that?"
"Your words have no real fucking meaning." He snapped finally looking at her. "You want to drunk call and text me telling me you wanna be with me all while being in another country with the same man you in a relationship with."
"Shouldn't that tell you something? I was in another country wishing you were there. I thought about you so much and you just never responded to me."
"So why were you there?" He raised his voice a bit making Alana jump. "You want to tell me I'm the only man you want, you love me, and all this bullshit but you don't want to break up with him. You don't want me Haven, you just don't want that man for some reason. Leave me alone brah."
He let Alana pull him away while tears came to Haven eyes, she knew she was going to hurt Ezra but she couldn't stop. A tissue got held in her face, she looked over to see Brat holding it.
"Thank you, I must've got something in my eye." She smiled clearing her throat.
"You're playing a dangerous game, Haven." Brat told her looking at Ezra.
"What are you talking about?"
"I knew you weren't all in with him but I didn't think you were this down bad." She shook her head. "Break up with Ezra. Today."
"I bet that's what you want, right?"
"I absolutely want him to be single rather than you play him."
"Isn't that Blaire over there? Worry about why every man cheats on you, rather than my relationship."
Brat began laughing; she smacked her leg, standing up straight. "Baby, let me be real. I love you like a sister, so I allowed you to date Ezra, knowing I could've rode that man into the sunset at any given time. You better watch yourself before I teach you a lesson that'll make you attempt suicide again."
Haven's eyes went wide, hearing the shade. She didn't have a comeback, so she just glared at her.
"You know, I apologize for that. I'm a healed woman, but let me tell you this-" She got into Haven's face. "When you break that man heart, you better pray he doesn't ask me to fuck you up."
"What's this?" Flaire asked.
"Just a friendly conversation with lil sis." Brat smiled, grabbing Flaire's hand. "Let's go guess how many jelly beans are in the jar."
Flaire and Brat walked away while she looked at Ezra, who was now laughing with Keygan and Tyke. She went to the table Regina, Indigo, and Maicee sat listening to their conversation.
"Can we have everybody's attention?" Genesis said on the mic as the DJ cut the music. "We want to thank everybody for coming to celebrate the new life we created. Although I didn't think I wanted a baby shower. I'm grateful I let my dad talk us into this."
"We love you, Zi." Devon threw in.
"Love y'all too."
"Can I get my baby sister, Indigo, to come up here?" Genesis asked catching her off guard. She furrowed her eyebrows walking to the front. "As a lot of you know, the beginning of my pregnancy was very difficult and I was on bed rest for the first four months. During those four months, my baby sister lost her boyfriend and it was like we also lost a part of her. She stopped talking for almost a month, and fell into a deep depression but during that depression she would randomly come lay in bed with me a lot of nights and rub my belly and ensure I never needed for anything."
"She wasn't taking care of herself, but she always found a way to take care of Genesis." Devon smiled. "I love all my sisters equally, but I do have a favorite, and everybody already knows it's Indi. She's the smartest, feistiest, best friend I've ever had, and that's why we wanted to ask you something."
Indigo furrowed her eyebrows, grabbing the gift bag they were handing her, she looked at them as Genesis smiled, nodding. She pulled the shirt out of the bag, reading the words, she gasped and jumped up and down.
"I'm a God Muvaaa!" She yelled, making a few people laugh.
"Oh, I'm jealous." Flaire frowned. "I didn't get asked this cute."
"It's okay, baby." Keygan kissed her forehead glancing at the ring on her finger.
Indigo hugged Devon and Genesis, Devon sighed in relief. They didn't make her the God mother due to circumstances but they did think the circumstances would've made her say no.
"I apologize, I disresp-" Devon hugged Indigo again cutting her sentence short.
"You don't have to apologize to me Indi, I hurt you and I should've told you. I love you and I'll always try to protect you but I'll do it smarter next time."
"Yes, way smarter." Genesis told him.
"I love you, I love both of y'all." She hugged them again.
Haven smiled happy for her family and just as she was standing to hug them she saw Milly walk towards the back. She glanced at Ezra seeing him now talking to Devon and Genesis, she took that as her chance to corner him.
Walking into the bathroom, Milly was washing his hands. He looked up at the door and sighed. Haven walked to him and just stared, he tried to walk but she grabbed his arm.
"I haven't broke up with Ezra because I don't want to hurt him, he's been a good boyfriend to me but he's not the guy I want anymore. I want you Milian. I want everything we talked about, I want you included in all the plans. I-"
"Haven, you want me then break up with your nigga. I don't give a fuck for your words, they never match your actions."
"I am!" She yelled. "That's what I'm trying to tell you, I don't want to prolong this relationship knowing I'm not in it. The minute I started liking you more than a friend, I should've stopped it, but I couldn't come to terms with losing my first love. But I've lost you and I'll rather not feel that pain rather than the pain of losing him."
"Haven, I don't believe you bro. Even after being with this man, you could just leave him?"
"I'm not in it Milly." Her eyes watered.
"We still not finna be together. Fuck I look like taking you serious a day after you get out of a relationship?"
"And I understand that but I just want to be sure you aren't going to give up on us, I want to be better. You make me better, Milly. I love you and I mean that fahreal."
Haven didn't give him time to respond as she crashed her lips onto his, she wrapped her arms around his neck. Caught off guard, Milly didn't immediately start kissing her but he fell into temptation as he always did with Haven. He lifted her onto the sink while she stuck her tongue into his mouth. She reached for his belt buckle pulling his pants down some.
Being so into the moment, they didn't hear the door open.
