Episode 31~ Confession and Determination
Kishore made Sanyukta sit in the passenger seat while he sat behind with Randhir. Sanyukta doesn't protest either. On their way to Sanyal Villa, she kept glancing at Randhir through the rear - view mirror. Since it was very late in the night, the traffic was clear and quickly they reached the Villa.
Sanyukta climbed down the car first then the driver and Kishore. Randhir kept mumbling something inaudibly as Kishore and Driver pulled him out of the car. Sanyukta looked on worriedly. As they made him steady he fell front and she hurriedly placed her palms on his chest making him stand him properly.
Renuka was fast asleep when loud, urgent knocks woke her up. Dazed, she sat up on the bed.
'What-who?' She looked around the dimly lit room.
'Maam, Maam, Randhir Baba.' Ramu Kaka's panicky voice floated from the other side. This made Renuka jolt from her groggily state. Quickly, she wore night robe over her nightdress and hurriedly left the room.
'Where is Randhir? What happened to him?' She enquired while tying her night robe. Ramu Kaka told her everything and she hurried from there.

In the room, Kishore and the driver made Randhir lay on the bed. Kishore straightened and huffed. He winced holding his lower back. Sanyukta fidgeted with the helm of her saree's Pallu as she watched the driver remove Randhir's shoes.
'Randhir.' Renuka walked into the room and everyone turned to look at her. She pushed past everyone and sat beside her son. She took a sigh of relief when she saw her son was all well.
'My son.' She said while running her palm over his forehead and pushing his hair back. Sanyukta smiled a little.
Ramu Kaka began to adjust Randhir's posture and Renuka stood up. She looked at Kishore and smiled gratefully.
'Thank you so much for helping my son.' She said. Kishore wasn't smiling, he had a stern look.
'Next time teach your son to not drink so much.' He said and Renuka's smile faded. She quickly composed herself and forced a smile again.
'Okay, I will. But before you go, please have tea-I insist, please.' Renuka said in a pacifying tone. Kishore wanted to refuse as he didn't want to spend a minute longer here, but in all this Hullabaloo he had a slight headache. He pressed his lips tightly and nodded. Renuka urged Sanyukta to come with them too and she agreed.
Everyone left the room except for Sanyukta. She turned around and looked at Randhir. His lower-jaw moved as he kept mumbling something. Sanyukta doesn't bother reading his lips. She walked up to him and kneeled beside the bed. She hesitated little for a moment, then slowly unbuttoned the top few buttons of his shervani. After that, he took a deep breath. Quickly, she retracted her hand. The shervani was disturbing his sleep. She exhaled deeply and stood up.
She turned around to leave when she felt someone tug on her Pallu. She held her shoulder and turned around. Sanyukta noticed Randhir's hand out of the blanket and he was clutching the helm tightly. She frowned and looked at him. She kneeled again and held his hand. She looked at him before she began to carefully move his fingers. The grip was tight, but she tried her best. After a couple of seconds, she managed to free herself. But before she moved her hand, Randhir grabbed her hand and she froze.
Shit! She was getting late. Kishore will get suspicious of her and come in the room in any minute and if he sees them together, he might misunderstand them. Slowly yet urgently she began to slip her hand from his grip, but it only tightened.
'Sanyukta!' He breathed out and Sanyukta stilled. She looked at him. He turned to his side and faced her. She gulped softly.
'Sanyu-Sanyuk-Sanyukta, don't-leave-me.' He mumbled and Sanyukta began pulling her hand again. Even if she wanted to stay, she couldn't. As she struggled to free herself, Randhir kept mumbling her name.
'Sanyukta-I-love-you,' - She froze and looked up at him, - 'I-love-you very much-and I-can't live without you-please come back--'
Sanyukta looked sadly at him, her eyes were moist with unshed tears of happiness and sadness. She was happy that Randhir still loves her, but she was sad because she knew their relationship was doomed. She mustered some more strength and managed to free her hand. Randhir's arm hung lifelessly from the edge of the bed.
Sanyukta adjusted his hand and tugged it properly under the blanket and stood up. She wiped her tears with her palm and sniffed. Then, she turned around and walked away. At the door, she stopped to glance at Randhir again. Fresh tears pooled her eyes, but she quickly blinked. She turned off the lights and quietly shut the door.

Outside, Kishore was getting restless but Renuka kept him sitting. She thought it would be wise to let Randhir and Sanyukta be together.
'Don't worry, Mr. Agarwal. Sanyukta must have gone to the bathroom.' She said. Kishore shook his head.
'How can I not worry, Maam. Your son hasn't left a stone un-turn to make my daughter's life miserable.' He said sternly and Renuka shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
She took a moment to reply, - 'But that was before, that time he was a kid. Now, he has matured.'
Kishore looked at her in disbelief for a moment and then scoffed. He looked away.
'You mean to say, marrying my daughter and then running away is being mature.' He said seriously and turned to look at her. Renuka looked shocked.
'What are you say-saying.' She fumbled with her words. Kishore nodded, seriously.
'Yes, Miss. Sanyal. Your son first made false promises to my daughter and then got secretly married and-he left her without sparing another glance. He didn't even bother to check if she was dead or alive-' He paused, - 'He tied my daughter and happily moved on. What if-if-you are a woman yourself, Miss. Sanyal. I needn't explain to you how a woman feels in this situation.' He said seriously. Renuka gave a thoughtful nod.
A moment of silence later, Renuka spoke, - 'Now, can we do?' She asked.
Kishore looked at her and then looked away, - 'Divorce.' He said and Renuka blinked at him. He looked at her.
'Look Miss. Sanyal. I understand you are his mother, but I am also Sanyukta's father. And I can't see her miserable anymore. If Anju was alive she would have spoken to her and made her feel better, but it is little difficult for me. So, I am hoping you will talk to your son and close this chapter once and for all.' He said.
Renuka nodded and looked away. She touched the rim of the tea-cup and sighed.
'But,' - She looked at him again, - 'You think they will be happy? Will they ever move on?' -She paused, - 'I have seen their love, its very intense Mr. Agarwal.'
Kishore looked at her, - 'Like you said, Miss Sanyal, they were kids before. It was just a teenage infatuation, nothing else. It will pass.' He said with confidence. Renuka exhaled deeply, looking away.
'I doubt that Mr. Agarwal,' - She looked at him, - 'If it was just a "teenage infatuation" it would have passed long ago. But two years? Neither of them has moved on.' She sounded serious.
But Kishore had an answer to this as well, - 'Because they didn't let themselves. I have selected a perfect man for my daughter. I am sure when she meets him, she will forget Randhir.' -He paused, - 'No offense, but your son has given nothing but misery to my daughter. And my heart as a father bleeds every time I see her sulking.' - He paused again, - 'Just one request. Please convince your son for the divorce. If he divorces her then I can convince her easily and-you also get a decent girl for him.' He said. Then, he placed the mug on the table and stood up. Renuka looked up at him.
'Thank you for the hospitality, Miss. Sanyal.' He said, and she nodded. Then, she got up as well. Just then Sanyukta entered the room. Kishore noticed her wipe her tears and he felt bad. She sniffed and blinked her eyes and then looked at her father.
'Papa, shall we leave.' She forced a smile. Kishore felt even more determined as he saw his daughter hide her emotions. He nodded and placed his arm around her. Sanyukta was surprised by his behavior but doesn't say anything. Before leaving she stopped in front of Renuka.
'Thank you, beta.' Renuka said touching Sanyukta's cheek. Sanyukta smiled at her and the two ladies hugged each other. They parted and exchanged smiles. Then, Sanyukta turned and walked away with her father. Renuka felt sad as she watched Sanyukta go. She sighed deeply and sat on the chair.
'I wish I can do something, Mr. Agarwal. Now, there is only one way and--Randhir-you-beta-- you have to do something. Else, you will lose Sanyukta forever.'
