Episode 30~ Emotions

Soon, everyone gathered towards the altar. Sanyukta was dragged on the altar by Tanya and gang. Parth was helped by few friends to climb. With his heavy wheel chair, it was proving very difficult. Randhir also joined in to help his friend. Parth and Randhir looked at each other and passed a smile.

Sanyukta shifted little as Randhir stood beside her. She avoided his gaze, but she could him looking at her. A moment later, she looked at him and he looked away.

'What happened? Stand properly.' Vidhushi whispered. Sanyukta simply nodded. She was standing next to Randhir like a stiff log. He realized she wasn't comfortable and he moved slightly letting two women stand in between them.

From the corner of her eyes, Sanyukta looked to her side and was surprised to see Randhir wasn't there. She looked properly and found him a few distances away from her. This time, he wasn't looking at her. She was slightly disappointed, she sighed and looked away.

Soon, the rituals began, and everyone happily looked on at the couple. Sanyukta was very excited as she showered marigold flower petals at the couple who were now taking rounds around the holy fire.

Randhir looked at Sanyukta and smiled a little, she was all smiles and had all her attention towards their friends. After a moment of admiring her, Randhir looked away. Half-heartedly, he threw flower petals at the couple. It was not that he wasn't happy for them, he was, but right now his mind was preoccupied with other thoughts and guilt.

He can't believe he lost two years because of his ego and misunderstanding. He ruined their relationship and made Sanyukta phobic to something she loved the most in the world. Randhir felt uneasy in the crowd and so, he sneaked out. No one noticed him as they were all busy. He was glad they didn't.

Since it was a Punjabi wedding there was an arrangement of a bar counter for drinks. Randhir sat on the high stool and leaned his arm against the table. A bartender, dressed in traditional cream Kurtha with a red turban, walked up to him. Randhir ordered his drink and the young man nodded.

As the couple took the pheras, Sanyukta got emotional remembering her own wedding. Parth held her hand. She looked at him and he flashed a knowing smile. She smiled back and looked up. Reflexively, she looked towards Randhir's direction but was surprised to see that he was missing. She frowned and looked around. It was difficult to find him in the crowd, also it was difficult to see through them to look to the other side of the Altar.

Sanyukta took a step but before she could go, Tanya held her forearm.

'Babes, where are you going?' - She whispered urgently, Sanyukta wanted to reply but before she could, Tanya spoke again, - 'Now, it is the Sindoor time.' She slid her palm and held Sanyukta's wrist tightly. Sanyukta sighed. She didn't want to miss this either. Once again, she looked towards the place where Randhir was standing and then looked at the couple again. Tanya lets go of her hand.

Sanyukta's eyes were moist with happy tears as she watched Yoyo fill Ester's parting. Everyone clapped. Yoyo was all grins and Ester was all blushes. Yoyo's Chamcha began teasing them. Ester became red as tomato and Yoyo was blushing as well. Other girls including Sanyukta chuckled.

After everything was over and it was time for everyone to leave. Kishore walked up to Sanyukta and placed his palm on her shoulder.

'Beta, I think we should leave now. It is getting late and we have office tomorrow.' He said. Sanyukta nodded. Kishore walked down the altar while Sanyukta adjusted her Saree. She had taken a step but stopped in her tracks when she heard Yoyo say,

'Arey, where is Randhir Pajji.' He asked while looking around cluelessly. Sanyukta began looking around as well.

Perhaps, he left-but why am I thinking about him? Let him be - She thought in her head. Then, she walked away.

As she walked behind her family Sanyukta wondered why would Randhir leave so early. It is Yoyo's wedding. She looked around and amongst the crowd she found someone leaning against the bar counter. Other men around the counter were drunk and merry. Only this man appeared to be unconscious. Sanyukta looked away for a spilt-second before looking back at the man. She squinted her eyes and focused on the drunk man.

She looked carefully as she passed the man and on closer inspection, she realized it was Randhir.

'Randhir.' She gasped and stopped in her tracks. Kishore also stopped and so did Ankit and Vidhushi. Parth also got worried as he looked towards Randhir's direction. Sanyukta and Parth hurried towards him. Kishore rolled his eyes but stood his ground. Vidhushi kept looking on, slightly worried.

Sanyukta reached Randhir first.

'Randhir.' She called softly and held his shoulders. She pulled him back and he fell against her arms. His mouth was slightly parted, and his eyes closed. But Sanyukta could see his eyes moving under the eyelids.

'Randhir, Randhir.' She shook him. Parth also called his name couple of times. Slowly, his eyes flickered open and he looked at Sanyukta. She held his cheek while gripping his shoulder tightly with the other hand.

'Are you - okay?' She asked. Randhir flashed a goofy smile and nodded.

'Come, stand.' Parth held his arm and tried to make him stand. Sanyukta held his other arm. Randhir stood up, his legs wobbled, and he fell with a thud back on the stool. Sanyukta and Parth gasped.

'Parth,' - Sanyukta looked worriedly, at her friend, - 'I think we have to take him home.' She said. Parth nodded thoughtfully.

'Yeah, you are right. He isn't in any condition to walk forget driving.' He added seriously. Sanyukta nodded.

Then, she held his arm and wrapped it around her shoulder. She gripped his waist tightly. Randhir leaned completely on her and she had to drag him. Sanyukta winced and Parth suggested he helped but she refused.

Kishore was shocked and angered when he saw this, - 'Sanyukta?' He hissed and Sanyukta stopped beside him.

'What are you doing?' He said angrily.

'Taking him home. Papa look at him. He needs our help.' She said. Kishore wanted to refuse but seeing his daughter's expressions, he dropped the idea.

'Okay, but I am coming with you.' He said sternly and Sanyukta nodded. Parth also insisted that he will come but Sanyukta refused.

'No, Parth. You should be resting. I promise I will make you meet him later.' Sanyukta said urgently. Holding Randhir's entire weight was proving difficult for her. Kishore sensed it and grabbed Randhir's free arm and pulled him.

'You needn't carry him.' Kishore said and then called Ankit for help. Ankit was reluctant but Vidhushi nudged him and he sighed deeply. Angrily, he walked towards his father. He grabbed Randhir from the other side. Sanyukta smiled at her father but he doesn't smile back. Her smile faded but she composed herself and followed her father.

In the parking lot as they carried Randhir, they looked around for their car. Ankit dug his free hand into his pocket and fished out his phone.

'I will call the driver.' He said confidently. But before he could dial a number, a middle-aged man hurried to them.

'Randhir baba.' He said. He looked very anxious and he began asking questions.

'Kaka, Randhir has passed out. We need to take him home.' She said urgently.

He looked nervously at her and nodded. Then, Kishore passed Randhir to the man and he held him while giving him full support. Kishore and Ankit were relieved. Sanyukta lifted her saree little and said to the driver,

'Come.' She was about to walk with the driver when Kishore held her arm.

'Where are you going? We found the driver, let him be.' Kishore said, strictly. Sanyukta shook her head and moved her hand away.

'No, Papa. I can't leave Randhir like this.' She replied, restlessly. Kishore wanted to be strict with her but knowing his daughter too well, he agreed. Even though Sanyukta will listen to him but she will remain disturbed for the rest of the night and he didn't want her to spend any more sleepless night because of Randhir.

'Okay, but I am coming too.' He said. Ankit was shocked but before he could protest Vidhushi and Parth interrupted him.

'Yeah.' They said in unison and then looked at each other. They passed a small smile.

Sanyukta was more than relieved and she smiled a little. Then, she and Kishore quietly followed the driver.
