Chapter 3

Kaneki's POV

I yawned as I turned over on my back but felt a weight on me. I opened my eyes and looked at the window as it was just getting light out now. I glanced around and stared at the clock that hung above the door frame. 5:45 in the morning. I felt warm despite a blanket and I looked at Hide as he had his head on my chest and his hand was still intertwined with mine. His lips were slightly parted and his breathing was low yet steady as his face and body was relaxed. I sat up slowly and he slid down my body and rested against my lap and I smiled gently as I carefully moved him onto the pillows and pulled the blanket on him and slid my hand out of his gently.

"Kaneki..." His voice was child like and laced with tiredness as his eyes were half opened and he had a slight smile.

"You can stay asleep," I murmured as I felt my cheeks heat up.

"But why can't you stay?" He yawned.

"Erm... Work?" It came out more as a question and I mentally cursed myself.

"Five more minutes?" He whispered and held the blanket open and I clenched my jaw before sighing and sliding under the covers as he snuggles up against me and I rubbed his back gently as he fell asleep with his head against my chest and on one arm.

"Dork," I sighed as I looked at his sleeping form. His hair was messy, frizzy, and sticking up. I probably had bad bed head too and I watched the clock slowly tick by.

I made the coffee and zoned out as I watched the pot fill up slowly.

"Kaneki!" I looked at Touka as she glared at me and I sighed and looked around. Hide was zoned out listening to music and looking out the window with a half eaten piece of red velvet cake by him and a mocha. He looked over at me and smiled and I smiled back.

"What's up between you two?" Kaya purred and Enji smirked as Hinami and her mother ran down the stairs. They were going to the bookstore.

"Nothing is between us," I felt my cheeks heat up again.

"Really because the way you two look at each other, eyes full of love and compassion and his smile and yours," Enji smirked.

"Not to mention you two snuggling," Kaya smiled.

"And he almost kissed you," Touka grumbled as she wiped the counter.

"Besides its be nice for you to have a love life," Yoshimura said behind me and I jumped and dropped the cup as it shattered along the ground and I saw Hide look worriedly at me from the corner of my eye as I kneeled down and carefully picked up the glass. I gasped when I felt it dig into my skin and I dropped the glass and watched blood well out slowly.

"Kaneki..." Hide walked into the bathroom as I ran my hand under hot water.

"You ok?" He touched my shoulder and I nodded slightly.

"You sure?" His breathe tickled my ear and I looked at him.

"Yeah," I murmured.

"Good," he leaned closer and his face turned serious.

"Kaneki I love you," he grabbed my wrists and stared into my eyes.

"Hide..." I gasped.

"Kaneki..." He leaned closer and kissed my lips and I relaxed and smiled at him.

"I love you too Hide," I whispered.
