Mountain Gle-Oh God That's a Lot of Grimm
(Hello everyone! Kept you waiting, Huh? Just wanted to make a shoutout to VRivera0228 . Greatest person ever. Gives great feedback when you need it. Just a joy to have around. As always, let's get goin!)
Everyone stood, confused, besides Y/N, who stood there, happy.
"Professor Ooblek?" Weiss looked dumbfounded. Professor Ooblek paced back and forth.
"Yes I'm afraid those bag will not be necessary, seeing as you've opted to shadow a huntsman on what is now officially a reconnaissance mission. I can assure you, we will not be establishing a single base of operations, rather we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland, and making camp and any locations that we may stumble upon. I packed all of our essentials myself and readied the airship. And! It's Dr. Ooblek. I didn't earn the PhD for fun, thank you very much. Come now, children. According to my schedule, we are three minutes behind, schedule!" He zipped away to the bullhead at high speeds.
"Well alright then! Looks like we're going to save the world with Doctor Ooble..okay yeah when you say it out loud it sounds worse." Ruby said. Everyone pouted a little.
"Save the world?! You're going on world saving missions without us?! I'm hurt, sad, maybe a little bit hungry? That last one's not your fault though. Ren." Everyone turned around to see the crazy orange haired girl, Nora, with the rest of her team.
"Sounds exciting. Where you going?" Jaune asked.
"Oh, just outside the kingdom. I'm super hyped." Y/N replied.
"Hey! So are we."
"We're shadowing a sheriff of a nearby village. We head out tomorrow."
"You can party with us tonight! We're shadowing a crime specialist!" Neptune said with sun, barging in on the conversation. Y/N internally laughed. He remembered the police at the docks with the funny name tags.
"Four minutes, students!"Ooblek yelled from the bullhead. Everyone remained quiet for about 10 seconds, smiling at each other.
"Well, wish us luck." Ruby said. Team RWBY+_ went to the bullhead and it took off.
"I guess I never saw you as much of a fighter!" Yang Said to Ooblek. They were on the bullhead, which was pretty loud. They had to yell.
"I agree! It's kinda weird to think that my history teacher is a cool huntsman!" Y/N added.
"Indeed I fancy myself as more of an intellectual! As a huntsman, I've had my fair share of tussles!"
"Like the mushrooms?" Ruby asked. The bullhead got quieter as it went soaring through the air.
"Those are truffles." Blake answered.
"Like the sprouts?"
"Those are Brussels." Yang answered as well. Y/N giggled.
(Small time skip because I'm lazy and I'm MAKING MAC AND CHEESE AND NOBODY CAN STOP ME!)
As the flight came to a close, everyone learned something new about the Mountain Glenn Project. Y/N saw an abandoned looking city. It was all just ruins. Grimm overtook the city and that's why it wasn't a part of Vale. Soon, the bullhead landed. Everyone jumped out into fighting position. When they saw nothing, they regained their composure and put away their weapons. Everyone looked around at this ruined ghost town of a city. Tumbleweeds rolled by.
"Ugh... Is it High Noon again?" Y/N Said to himself.
"You still may be students, but at this moment, your first mission as professionals has begun. From this point forward, you need to do exactly as I say. Do you understand?" Ooblek asked. Everyone nodded in compliance.
"Ruby!" He yelled. She flinched a little. Y/N realized she still had a backpack for some odd reason.
"I thought I told you to leave all of your bags back at school." He told her.
"But, you haven't told us to listen to you, yet. So I didn't." Ruby explained. Y/N cracked a smile and giggled at the girl's reply.
"She has a point, Doctor." Y/N Said, backing up Ruby's statement.
"She's not wrong. Very well, Ruby. Leave your bag here and we can pick it up on our return." Ooblek ordered.
"But I...wa."
"Young lady! What could you possibly have in that bag that could be so important to bring wi..." Ooblek was cut short of his sentence by Zwei, popping his head out of the bag.
"ZWEI?" Y/N was surprised to see the small corgi in Ruby's bag. Ruby tilted her head back to Zwei.
"Get back in the bag." She whispered to the small dog. He barked once.
"We're here, to investigate an abandoned urban jungle, teaming with death and hostility, and you brought... a dog?" Ooblek looked serious. Y/N was a little worried.
"I... uhh.."
"GENIUS!" Ooblek zipped around and yoinked Zwei our of Ruby's backpack, causing her to fall. Y/N helped her up.
"Thanks." Ruby said, dusting herself off.
"Canines are historically known for their perceptive nose and great sense of sound, making them perfect for huntresses and huntsman to use on missions!!" He yelled spinning around with the cute doggo.
"Hmph! I'm a genius." Ruby said happily. Everyone facepalmed in disappointment at her remark.
"That was a good idea. Back on my planet, Dogs are really good at searching for things. So, good job, Ruby." Y/N said, complimenting the girl on her idea of bringing Zwei.
"Hmm. Interesting." Ooblek Said.
"What are your orders, Doctor?" Blake asked.
"Ah, yes! Straight to the chase! I like it! As you've been informed, the southeast area has been marked as a recent hotspot for Grimm activity. Now there are several possible explanations for this behavior, one of which being, Grimm." Ooblek dropped Zwei and then spaced out. Everyone looked a little confused.
"Ahh... what?" Ruby didn't understand.
"Grimm, a creature of Grimm, approximately one hundred yards from us at this very moment." Ooblek said calmly.
"What?!" Blake yelled. Everyone turned around and got their weapons ready. They saw one Beowolf.
"Stop." Ooblek ordered. Everyone put their weapons down and looked at him.
"There are a number of reasons why Grimm will congregate in this area. The most likely of which be their attraction to negativity. Sadness, envy, loneliness, hatred. All from our ill intent." Ooblek continued.
"So, What do we do now, Doc?" Y/N asked, sheathing his sword.
"We wait, we track. If the specimen leads us to its pack, then the pack will subsequently lead us to our prey."
"How long do we wait?" Yang asked.
"It's uncertain. Hours, days, weeks. Grimm can stay isolated from the pack for months... And there's the whole pack." Ooblek Said, as a bunch of Beowolves storm the area.
"What?" Weiss was surprised.
"And now they've seen us."
"What?!"
"AND NOW THEY'VE SEEN US!" He yelled into Weiss's ear.
"I take it tracking is out of the question?" Ruby asked.
"An accurate assumption, yes."
"Then what's the plan?" Blake asked.
...
...
...
"Show me what you're capable of." He said. Everyone got ready.
"Cover your ears, Zwei!" Ruby said to her dog. Then, Zwei Laid down and put his ears down.
"Holy Crap! That's a lot of Grimm!" Y/N said. Everyone started fighting the Grimm hoard. It was like a zombie movie almost, without zombies, with more black animal monsters. Yang killed one by punching it, Blake killed three of them by using her Semblance and cutting each in half, Weiss cut down 5 of them with precise attacks, Ruby started sniping a lot of them down. She then ran at them with blinding speed. She cut some of them in half. Y/N ended up killing a few of his own.
"Peace of cake." Ruby said.
"Don't celebrate yet, there's more to come, Ruby." Y/N said. After a long while of killing Grimm, everyone stopped.
"Hmm, there seems to be no sign of criminal activity here. Let's move along, shall we?" Ooblek Said. More Grimm killing.
"Jesus, there is a lot of Grimm in this dang city." Y/N said to himself. As everyone is killing Grimm, Ooblek went to each of them asking about their reason of becoming a huntress. Y/N questioned if he was going to get asked. He wouldn't know what to say. As his question became reality, Ooblek came over to Y/N.
"You're gonna ask me now?" Y/N asked Ooblek.
"Precisely. It does seem interesting to see someone who wasn't born to fight, become a huntsman. Why are you here? Why do you fight? What is your purpose in Remnant?" He asked the young boy. Y/N thought. He didn't know what words to use. He couldn't explain it.
"I... I don't know. I came here with nothing... so, Ozpin took me in to the school for education. My only reason for fighting right now is to stay alive, really." Y/N said. Ooblek pushed up his glasses.
"I don't believe you're telling me the truth, young man."
"I don't know the truth, yet. I realized I had to fight to live when I fought the henchmen at the docks. And... my life is the only thing I fight for right now."
"Is that so? Did you forget you have a team? A team leader? Y/N, you have a lot to fight for. Even if you're not from here, you have made a promise to your teammates, that you would stand by them and fight with them."
It became night time soon enough. Y/N thought about what Ooblek Said to him. He was right. Ooblek walked away with Y/N to a nearby campfire that was set up by the girls.
"I can't believe we couldn't find anything..." yang complained.
"We've always been fortunate enough to be at the right place, at the right time. I guess we can't always have luck on our side." Blake said. Y/N was looking around for any more hostiles. None to be seen. He came back to see Ruby and Zwei get close to the fire.
"Ah.. Fire... so warm.." she put her hands close to it to get warmer.
"Good job, everyone. Each of you, eat, then head to bed. Each of you need to take turns watching over us while we sleep. Any volunteers for first watch?" Ooblek asked.
"Yo..." Ruby raised her hand. Ruby then went up to the lookout area to scout out any Grimm. The night only begun.
